Interplay with Music
Research Agenda and Process Overview This project is strongly influenced by music, exploring how to initiate movement through the design of interactive environments. Evidence is beginning to emerge that music therapy can improve the mental health of people with stress. Reseachers examining possible mechanisms of action within field and suggest that music therapy partly is effective because active music- making within the therapeutic frame offers the patient opportunuties for the new aesthetic, physical and relational experiences . Music identifies the emotions and dance helps you showcase it. However, not everyone enjoys passive listening to music. Aside from any explanations derived from non-musical aspects, research reports that ‘active doing’ (i.e the playing of musical intruments with the music therapist) is important to many participants.
Research Questions 1. How can an interactive space act to create ‘active doing’ in music making? 2. What is the impact of these installations in different spaces like open and closed spaces? 3. What role could such installations play in creating therapeutic environments ?

Significance and Contribution Influencing human Interaction with a playful environment. This design project uses the notion of proximity and touch sensors in order to play music by passing the structure and designing a space . But what makes this even more interesting is the introduction of conductive paints in the design. These sensors react to the presence of a person within the vicinity and track their movements, outputting a constantly modulated ambient soundscape reminiscent of medical research environments. the abstract geometric ornamentation connects the tapestries’ individual sensors to form giant panels, serving as an acoustic feedback loop that alludes to the relationship between science and the body. It is in self or public interaction that we first understand who we are, how we think and to take pleasure in the possibilities that the world around us has to offer.
Methodologies 1. Begin with research ,exploring human psycology and space. 2. Concept development through drawing and 3D models . 3. Testing and developing the idea with models. 4. Learning wiring and construction techniques. 5. Video and photographic documentation. 6. Selection of music and material to be used for application of conductive paints. 7. Touch board wiring and coding technique for proximity.

Design Proposal The installation is built with 4 segments; Study of Music that sooths and relaxes your mind; Use of material which can be easy to apply conductive paints and which can be used. Next will be filming and documenting the feedback of people using it and critically analzing this, and finally developing an improved prototype.
This will make dance moments or playing music in the space easier. Thirdly this setup will be placed in the campus of University for the Creative Arts, Canterbury as an Interactive ceiling. The tests will be filmed and the comments and feedback will be documented and analysed. The outcome for this testing will inform the final prototype.
Initial studies will explore the choice of music and materials to The exhibition will consists of the space that can be experienced by create the space. everyone at the exhibition and film Secondly I will develop the coding will be continuosly accompanied and wiring of bare conductive by previous material tests. proximity . This will enable music to be played even without human touch and only from human motion at the distance of 5cm.
Key technological outcomes of proposal 1. Puting Anthropometry and Ergonomics in the Design Practice. 2. Making of the structure. 3. Using Touch board and bare conductive paints. 4. Knowledge about space development for individuals, duos or a group.

Design Research Context Field of Work : Bare Conductives is a company founded by 4 members Matt Johnson, Isabel Lizardi, Bibi Nelson and Becky Pilditch. Introduction to Conductive paints ,sensor hardware and its immensive guidance in designing spaces using Bare conductive paints and touch board.
Work by others : MAK Fashion Lab by Fabio Antinori and Alicja Pytlewska developed a largescale metaphor for the idea of breathing life into a collection of responsive textile skins.

Prototyping and Testing Step wise design procedures are carried out to design the space Interplay with music : Making and testing :Making of frames which are influenced by dance forms, 10 poses of each form were clicked and the photoshopped together to form one element which was then outlined in cubic form making it an abstact painting with conductive paints in it.

Dissemination and Future Work This Intallation can benefit from improvments which was not possible at this instance . The space allows user to interact and play with music in Architecture. It is important to experience space not only through mere vision but with the whole body with the sense of touch. It can keep evolving to how rage human interactions and keeping them active and moving. Conductive Paints is an emerging material, they can replace wires and in most beautiful ways.
