Research Agenda and Process Overview This project is a kinetic sculpture, and started from an interest in human interactivity with urban public space When people see kinetic sculptures, they will more closer to it observe, trying to find out how it works, in comparison to a static sculpture, the relationship between man and public art, man and city landscape is narrowed and made more active. This installation is driven by a motor and impacts of observes’ visual senses, By applying human’s behavior and curiosity to spatial movement, this installation will become the focus of attention in a public space.
Research Questions 1.
in what ways can kinetic sculptures affect the relationship between human and public space.
2. what kinetic of interaction are engendered by a gear-wheel and pattern-based installation?

Significance and Contribution This project bring together and confinding from public art area interior and interactive design. in particular it experiments with the intactive of pattern and kinetic art, and aim to learn from the installation of two works in public space.
Methodologies 1.
developing understanding of a public space though analytical sketches and concept models.
2. Develop a flexible gear wheel structure to drive kinetic sculptures and shape of sense of visual. 3. visual patterns and their impact on human feeling. 4. Develop the movement of the sculpture through physical models. 5.
develop 1:1 prototype.

Design Proposal This installation consists of three people can turn on the switch , elements; patterns and kinetic and all patterns will spin as the elements and gear wheel working static patterns become kinetic. wheels are visible to the visitors. The entirety of the structure will be made of MDF. The installation will be wall-moved on buliding extenter. It consisted of 8 rows and 6 columns of patterns. Every pattern will be controlled by one gear wheel and every rows’s gear wheel will be controlled by one motor. When people walk though the space which has the installation.
Key technological outcomes of proposal 1.
The development of gear wheel structure and practical application.
2. Applying human behavior to kinetic installation and interior.

Design Research Context Field of work
Work by others
The project depends on visual perception as an essential aspect with which we identify and interact with our surrounding. Interactivity will be the significant keyword for the installation. This project references special installations which achieve their aim and purpose by giving visitors a different feeling of visual patterns.
In particular I have been influenced by the installation designed by Switzerland artist ZIMOUN, he uses 117prepared dc-motors, 210kg wood, 170m rope, simple and functional components, building architecturally-minded platforms of sound. In an obsessive display of simple and functional materials, these works articulate a tension between the orderly patterns of Modernism and the chaotic forces of life.

Design Methodologies The design development process started with the idea of reflecting human behaviour to public space and the feeling of visual patterns. The analyzation of human feeling and interaction in public space leaded the public space become more animated and interaction in public space which is used for passage in general.
A series of experiments have been carried to examine the moving of gear wheels and function of kinetic sculpture, the shape of visual patterns. The simple small models have been produced to test the moving of gear wheels/ kinetic structure and visual patterns and the speed of motors’ moving. By approaching from both functional elements and human behaviour, the possibility of spatial installation have been developed.

Prototying and testing In order to develop the function of structure and patterns of visual sense, a series of tests are carried with drawing and prototypes.
b. Kinetic structure In order to make every patterns will moving flexibly and working for a long time without broken, the movement of gear a.Function of structure wheels tested by 1:1 prototype In order to apply human a differ- and different size motors choent feeling of vision when they sen to test the speed of moving. see the sculpture, I choose many patterns to test which can bring the strong feeling with the vision when these patterns moving.

Fabrication Technique Gear wheels are the most improtant in the project. The structure consists of 96 gear wheels and 12 motors, it was not easy to assemble every single piece successfully and make them move smoothly. In order to deal with the size and weight of the gear wheels, technical testing and fixing was conducted in parallel with fabrication activities. a. structure Mdf board was chosen as the material for its strength and ease of processing. As it is much ligther than timber and can be used in laser cutting, the gear
wheels can be printed easily and laser cutting. dealing with the size and weight was the most di cult part of making the 1:1 prototype. In order to make moveable prototype in real size, it was necessary to fix the design and control system through trial and error. b.the pattern The shape of the pattern is circular and the size vanes. The pattern and gear wheels are conected by round sticks so that the pattern can move when gear wheels rotating.

control systems By separating the function of structure of flexible parts. the movement of the installation control by motors and gear wheels. a. structure The centre part of the structure is in charge of controlling the movement of gear wheels. The motor is connected to the battery so that the motor rotates and the gear is connected to the motor through the rubber band so that the gear rotates with the motor.
b.the pattern The pattern of the installation is the round transparent paper with different sizes of black dots, they will overlapping and produce a visual effect.

Occupation and Interaction By making an experience of touching the space I expect people to reconsider the interaction how how space affect to their experience. Pattern coincidence on the transparent paper create a different visual experience for people. Being conscious of interior space. the space of installation can be the focus of attention. The most signi cant part of this installation is to change the relationship between man and public art by apply people a different visual sense.

Dissemination and Future Work This installation represents a movemment of a large feature, such as a wall it could be. The idea of this installation will be developed as an interior design of public spaces like offices orentrance halls. The structure can be developed with more test and technique and make the installation can work for a long time.
