A bachelor’s degree in education is the minimum educational requirement for entering the teaching profession. These programs provide the first two years toward completion of the corresponding bachelor’s degree at the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH).** Students must be admitted into the CECH cohort through a selective admissions process for completion of the bachelor’s degree and teacher licensure.
These one-year programs (non-degree) provide the first year of the baccalaureate program at the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH). Students completing the first year must apply to and be accepted into the program at CECH.
For students who have not selected a program, Exploratory Studies provides core classes for the first year of study before transitioning into selected program.

“For anybody thinking about an IT career, UC Blue Ash is a great place to be. The professors provide a great foundation – from database management, networking or programming –for when you move into the field.”
As he continues to pursue his career ambitions through UC’s cybersecurity degree program, Alonge is thankful for his start at UC Blue Ash.
“It’s a great environment for learning. I’d say, if you’re thinking about it, you should probably do it. I haven’t had a single regret about going to UC Blue Ash.”

EDLÍN MALDONADO-FULLER PRE-MEDICINE
Edlín Maldonado-Fuller already has two master’s degrees and a meaningful career in public health, but she wants to do more to help underserved communities by becoming a primary care physician.
“I knew there was a shortage of physicians, especially primary care physicians. Even more so, there is a need for physicians who resemble the community they are caring for and speak the language of their patients.”
Edlín is a first-generation college student who grew up in Texas and speaks Spanish fluently. She learned from her past college experiences and knew what she was looking for this time around. She found it all right here at UC Blue Ash.
“I have been completely blown away. The dedicated professors and the resources that are available are amazing. I don’t think I have ever been able to connect with my professors previously as I have at UC Blue Ash. I hope that a lot of people are able to find this because it’s what the educational experience should be.”
Edlín adds that another fun part of returning to college has been bringing her young daughter Cecilia along for the journey. It helps her understand the importance of lifelong learning and keeping that childlike wonder and curiosity.

WE ARE INCLUSIVE.
UC Blue Ash is among the most diverse of all University of Cincinnati colleges – and we celebrate our diversity every day! Student groups such as the LGBTQ+ Alliance, Sister Circle, Men of Color Collaborative, Asian Student Union and Latinos en Acción provide support and camaraderie for students from diverse backgrounds.
WE ARE TRAILBLAZERS.
Nearly half of our students are first-generation college students. Our faculty and staff are compassionate experts at meeting the unique needs of first generation students and helping them succeed.
WE ARE GROWING.
Our campus is currently undergoing a multi-year renovation to add more state-of-the-art digital classrooms, bright and airy study spaces, private faculty offices, and room to grow!
For as long has he can remember, biology professor Yoshi Odaka has been fascinated by the working of organisms – and he never grew out of it! At UC Blue Ash, he thrives on research, and loves to get his students involved. His most recent research project revolves around the so-called “brain-eating amoeba,” N. fowleri, which he has studied extensively. Odaka routinely gives his
students the opportunity to present their research with him at national microbiology conferences.
“I love the opportunities to work with students of diverse backgrounds in a small enough class where I can see the face of every student. At UCBA, the mission is not just a statement – we actually practice diversity every day.”
PROFESSOR LORI WORTYLKO MARKETING
Marketing professor, and self-proclaimed high-end-shoe-aficionado, Lori Wortylko is a perennial favorite of her students.
She received UCBA’s Inclusive Excellence Award in 2020 and was nominated by one of her students for the university’s prestigious Barbour Award for faculty-student relations.
Students love Wortylko’s infectious energy in the classroom, and it’s not hard to see that her passion for education truly does shine.
“I love watching my students grow and flourish over their collegiate career. It’s humbling and truly amazing when I get the ‘I’m graduating and I want you there’ email. It triggers ALL of the happy tears!”
MONICA WEBER VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY
Monica Weber has turned her lifelong love of animals into a career she always dreamed of by earning a degree in veterinary technology at UC Blue Ash College. She says UC Blue Ash stood out as an exceptional, yet affordable, program with close-knit faculty and supportive energy.
“I noticed the level of dedication from faculty is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I knew they truly cared about me and wanted me to succeed. It made me feel more reassured in my decision to come to UC Blue Ash.”
Noting how the program and her professors provided the tools and hands-on participation to confidently enter a new career, Monica expressed her enthusiasm for deciding to earn her degree at UCBA.
“Everyone I’ve interacted with has been so supportive and kind, always available to answer a question or to help. I would highly recommend UC Blue Ash to anybody, not just to Vet Tech students.”

DANIEL POSMIK MATHEMATICS & ECONOMICS
UC Blue Ash alumnus Daniel Posmik transitioned to the Lindner College of Business and graduated in spring 2022 with bachelor degrees in economics and mathematics. The native of Germany is also one of only four recipients across the university to be selected for the 2022 Presidential Leadership Medal of Excellence; it’s awarded to students who best exemplify scholarship, leadership, character, service and the ideals of the University of Cincinnati. Out of more than 90 recipients over the past 20 years, Daniel is one of the very few who started at a regional college.
“I was really honored to receive the award. As a former UC Blue Ash student, it’s important to show others who maybe don’t have the traditional path into a four-year degree program that this is possible. You can do whatever you set your mind to.”
Daniel planned to go into sports marketing, but he found an entirely new career when he combined his longtime interest in the environment with a new passion for mathematics that he attributes to his UC Blue Ash professors and the tutors in the Math Lab.
“I didn’t like math in high school, but at UC Blue Ash I started to understand the ‘what’ as well as the ‘why’ behind it. That really fueled my passion for math, and I started to love it.”
Daniel is someone who is always looking forward. Following graduation, he spent some time hiking in the Himalayas in Nepal, and now has plans to continue working toward a doctorate in economics while starting his path to a career as an environmental economist.
