UCM EXCHANGE PROGRAM

The University of Central Missouri’s Exchange Program offers you the most comprehensive and culturally immersive international collegiate experience. UCM’s International Student Services (ISS) has partnered with over 30 universities around the world to offer you the chance to participate in long-term and summer study abroad opportunities as an exchange student.

• The UCM Exchange Program coordinator will help you to arrange your housing before you arrive on campus.

• All students are automatically enrolled in an International Student Health Plan that offers insurance coverage during their stay in the U.S.

• Before arrival, the UCM Exchange Program coordinator will help you to enroll in the courses that fit your academic program.

UCM ACADEMICS

A full-time study program at UCM is between 12 and 15 credit hours. Your decision to take a certain amount of credits depends on the requirements of your home institution and the level of the courses.

About UCM academics:

• Students should expect to take four to five classes while in attendance.

• A typical class is three credit hours and meets three times per week for one hour, or is three credit hours and meets two times per week for one and one half hours.

• Classes are split into four different levels, from 1000 to 4000, with increasing difficulty. Evidence of meeting prerequisite classes may be required for some classes.

• When students complete their courses, an official academic transcript will be sent to their home institutions at no cost.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND AMERICAN CULTURE COURSES

• Full- or part-time ESL courses (based on proficiency level)

• One to three credit hours of American Culture courses

• American Culture Activity Package ($150 per semester)

• English Café

Email iep@ucmo.edu to schedule English proficiency testing or to request a waiver from testing.

HOW TO APPLY

❏ Obtain a nomination by a coordinator from a recognized exchange partner. Not sure if your university is a recognized exchange partner? Contact your university’s study abroad office or email intlsponsored@ucmo.edu for more information.

❏ Receive a nomination link from UCM and apply via the orientation portal.

❏ Fill out the application and submit the required documents in your orientation portal.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

• Demonstration of English proficiency

• Unofficial transcripts

• Declaration of financial support

• Official bank statement/certification

• Photocopy of passport and passport signature pages

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS

English proficiency can be demonstrated by submitting one of the following:

Undergraduate

• TOEFL iBT 61 + home-based

• IELTS Academic: 5.5

• UCM English Proficiency Test: 61

• Duolingo composite exam score of 95

• Cambridge C1/B2

Graduate

• TOEFL iBT (internet-based): 79 + home-based

• IELTS Academic: 6.0

• UCM English Proficiency Test: 79

• Duolingo composite exam score of 120

Digital copies of test results may be uploaded by the student to the UCM application portal or may be emailed directly to intlsponsored@ucmo.edu. If you have any questions about English proficiency testing or requests for waivers, please email iep@ucmo.edu.

UCM ACTIVITIES

UCM offers more than 185 student-led organizations and numerous opportunities for fitness/wellness and student activities. International students are encouraged to get involved!

Students may also participate in the many volunteer opportunities available through the Office of Student Activities.

The Student Recreation and Wellness Center is free for all current UCM students.

Other ways to get involved include:

• Participating in intramural sports clubs.

• Learning to bowl at the on-campus bowling center.

• Cheering on UCM’s 17 NCAA Division-II athletic teams.

Provides students and visitors with disabilities with the services necessary to achieve equal opportunities on campus

The Counseling Center

• Provides a safe atmosphere for all students

• Helps students under distress or experiencing other difficulties

University Health Center

• Provides acute care and services to students available by appointment

• Staffed with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and other health professionals

International students have a wide range of services available while attending UCM.

Public Safety

• Employs 19 uniformed police officers

• Provides walking escorts at night through the Student Assistant Foot Patrol and Escort (SAFE) Team

Technology Support Center

• Provides students with basic trouble-shooting and answers general questions about campus technology like MyCentral and campus email

University Store

• Serves as the on-campus source for textbook and course materials

• Sells official UCM clothing and souvenirs

Housing (on-campus)

• Provides a range of furnished apartments and residence halls

• Offers apartments that include kitchen facilities

• Residence halls do not feature kitchen facilities.

• Most rooms are shared with one other student with shared bathroom facilities.

Dining (on-campus)

• 13 on-campus dining options with vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and other allergy-free options

• Provides meal plans for purchase with access to onand off-campus cafeterias and restaurants

James C. Kirkpatrick Library

• Provides 20,000 square feet and three stories of space to research, study and relax

• Home to the award-winning McClure Archives and University Museum
