If you meet the requirements for admission to graduate study, your materials will be forwarded to the Department of Aviation for consideration. The department will then notify you of action taken and your admission status. Once admitted to the program, a departmental adviser will assist you in creating a program of study. Learn more about UCM’s graduate programs at ucmo.edu/graduate.

Your time at UCM will be one of the most challenging, yet rewarding, experiences of your life. These unique programs build upon an innovative curriculum, quality instruction and hands-on experiences. As an aviation student, you will graduate UCM with a wealth of practical knowledge and real-world experience that makes you attractive to future employers.

Aviation Faculty

Our faculty members are professionals rich in military and civilian aviation experience. They include: airline pilots, airport managers, FAA employees, Director of Operations, owners of airlines, aircraft manufacturing professionals and retired military pilots.

Flight Training Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport UCM aviation students have access not only to aircraft but also to an airport. UCM’s Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport is the only public airport owned by a university in Missouri. It serves as a training facility for aviation students as well as a public airport. With nearly 80,000 takeoffs and landings annually, the Swisher Skyhaven Airport is one of the state’s busiest small airports.

Boeing 737NG Learn to fly with cutting-edge technology. UCM’s aviation department boasts a Boeing 737NG Advanced Aviation Training Device, which simulates the experience pilots have when they step into the cockpit of 737-800 airline cabin class aircraft, complete with all the controls, instruments and complex jet systems that they will find on a multiengine airline aircraft. Most of today’s jetliners don’t have as advanced technology systems that you will experience on this training device.

Redbird FMX Advanced Aviation Training Device UCM has three FMX Redbird Simulators for full motion, real-world flight training. These AATDs are fully enclosed and equipped for scenario-based training in either single or multi-engine aircraft.

Redbird Xwind SE The Department of Aviation also offers flight training in a Redbird Xwind, which helps train pilots to land in crosswinds and wind gusts. Since many accidents are weather-related, this ATD gives pilots plenty of time to practice the proper techniques for landing in challenging weather conditions.

Rotary Wing Training through With this training, UCM students and non-students (with a pilot certificate) will be able to add rotary wing certificates to their fixed wing certificates. Flight instruction will be available for private, instrument and commercial. Call 660-543-8664 to sign up or inquire about rotary wing flight instruction.

Students have opportunities to focus on all aspects of aviation and to form bonds with fellow enthusiasts.

Forensic Aviation Accident Research Club The Forensic Aviation Accident Research Club studies aviation accidents to learn the human factors that lead to incidents, and how pilots can adopt a safety mindset to prevent future accidents. In this organization, you will learn about common and uncommon mistakes pilots make that are easily preventable, as well as how to react to them.

ROTC-ARMY

UCM Aviation Student Government

The ROTC’s mission is to recruit, train, retain, develop and commission high quality future leaders for the United States Army. Army ROTC is one of the best leadership courses in America and prepares cadets for long-term success.

The Aviation Student Government was established to enrich the aviation program so that students may take full advantage of their education. The ASG hears concerns from aviation students and voices them to the administration to reach a resolution in the best interest of the students. ASG also researches and disperses information regarding internships and scholarships. In addition, ASG organizes special events for aviation students, such as trips to the Smithsonian Institution.

ROTC-Air Force Through a special arrangement between UCM, the University of Missouri-Columbia and the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps, students at UCM can participate in the AFROTC program and receive their commissions in the U.S. Air Force. The arrangement allows you to attend UCM for all of your undergraduate coursework while simultaneously meeting your commissioning requirements in the AFROTC program at the University of Missouri-Columbia. However, UCM students commute to Columbia once each week to take the required aerospace studies courses and leadership laboratory.

U.S. Marine Corps UCM’s Marine Platoon Leaders class allows you entry into the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer with guaranteed flight training upon graduation. Scholarships are available.

UCM Flight Team The UCM Flight Team allows dedicated pilots to practice and develop aeronautical knowledge and skills. Membership on the team is won through competitive testing. Team members compete in regional and national competitions held by the National Intercollegiate Flying Association. These weeklong competitions consist of numerous flight and ground events that test aeronautical skills.

Women in Aviation Women in Aviation is an organization dedicated to providing networking, education, mentoring and scholarship opportunities for women (and men) who are striving for challenging and fulfilling careers in the aviation and aerospace industries.
