THE LD REYER SCHOLARHSIP In 2019, alumna LD Reyer created the endowed scholarship, The LD Reyer Scholarship at The Paul Merage School of Business. This scholarship is awarded to an MBA student based on academic performance, work experience and leadership potential. During the 2019-2020 academic year, Rachel Tsui was the inaugural recipient. Rachel is currently enrolled in the Fully-Employed MBA program, employed at Edwards LifeSciences and plans to graduate in 2022. For the 2020-2021 academic year, Teresa Davis was awarded this scholarship. Teresa is in the 2022 cohort of the MBA for Executives program. She is currently a Care Manager Registered Nurse at St. Joseph’s Health - Mission Hospital, and wants to make a real impact in the healthcare industry.
Teresa Davis
The 2020-2021 LD Reyer Scholarship Recipient
Teresa started working as an office assistant at 13 years old. After high school, she quickly earned her Medical Assistant certificate, and then proceeded into an Associates program in Business Administration. She began her career in doctors’ offices and moved into the health insurance field quickly thereafter. Upon leaving Corporate America, Teresa decided to become a registered nurse. After a year as a floor nurse, she then decided to take her nursing experience and business sense to become a Medical Review Nurse in the health insurance industry. She found her passion - analyzing medical records and business policies. Five years later, with additional experience and clarity about what she wanted career-wise, she decided to pursue an Executive MBA at UCI Paul Merage School of Business.

TERESA DAVIS EMBA‘22 The 2020-2021 LD Reyer Scholarship Recipient
Dear LD: I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generosity in providing support through the gift of scholarship. I am pursuing an Executive MBA at the University of California Irvine, focusing on Healthcare Leadership and entrepreneurial development. I plan to utilize the skills and knowledge to improve patient care models in the healthcare industry, start a nationwide healthcare services company, help develop state-of-the-art assisted living facilities, as well as develop a tech-media production company. I feel that collaborating and networking with other business students in UCI’s Executive MBA program will increase my creativity and provide new insight on innovative technology to fine tune my business and leadership skills. Thanks again and wish me luck! Teresa Davis, RN, BSN, CCM

RACHEL TSUI FEMBA ‘22 The 2019-2020 LD Reyer Scholarship Recipient How did the LD Reyer Scholarship change your career path? The LD Reyer Scholarship has inspired me to pursue more, to go outside of my comfort zone. I recently moved into a new role with my current employer, Edwards Lifesciences, to support the Global Planning, Sourcing, and Logistics organization as an Associate Finance Manager. With this transition, I will gain valuable experience and skillsets within this role that will further support my career development in finance. How did the Merage School help you achieve your goals? Building my career and furthering my education have always been important to me as I am passionate about growing professionally and continuously learning. With the MBA program, I’m exposed to things that I normally would not have had in my career in finance. I plan to continue to work my way up the corporate ladder, with the learnings/skills/network I will gain from this program.
At Edwards, I’ve held several roles in different areas in finance. During my time in corporate FP&A, I realized that I wanted to expand my horizon and be more wellrounded outside of finance. That’s why I went back to school to earn my MBA. How has this award impacted your experience at the Merage School? I think having extra scholarship money goes a long way. It’s nice to have peace of mind knowing that I don’t have to worry about finding an extra source to fund my MBA, so that I can focus on what truly matters the most - my education and career development.
Tell us about your background before you became a student at the Merage School? I was born and raised in Hong Kong, and I moved with my family to the US when I was 15. I graduated from UC San Diego with a BS in Management Science and a minor in Accounting. I was a first-generation college student; my parents did not get the opportunity to go to college and had to work very hard to build their business from the ground up without much formal education. The idea of having a good education was instilled in me as a young child, and my parents’ experience inspired me to work hard to pursue an education. After college, I worked for a year as an accountant in a small familyowned company in the construction industry. Then, I moved to Edwards Lifesciences and I’ve been there for nearly 7 years.
What opportunities are you most grateful for? I’m grateful that I was selected to be the recipient of the LD Reyer Scholarship. I’m grateful that I was able to meet LD in person, thank her for her generosity and learn more about her experience. I’m grateful that despite COVID, I’m still able to get a good education at the Merage School. I’m grateful for the support I’ve gotten along the way during my MBA journey.
