WORLD makes global health, wellbeing, and development data legible, accessible, and actionable. For 15 years we have collected and analyzed global policy and legislation that would otherwise be inaccessible and virtually incomprehensible. Our data shows how rights, laws, and policy have evolved over the past 50 years, facilitating research on the connection between policy and outcomes. Through our interactive maps, data visualizations, tailored policy briefs, and transnational comparisons, we make legal rights
and public policy accessible and empower anyone — inside or outside government — with relevant and reliable data. Our work builds transparency around country commitments from health to education, from adequate standards of living to equal rights, and has provided a powerful tool to a range of actors—from the individual citizen and community-based organizations, to international NGOs and policy makers at the levers of power.

A multidisciplinary policy research center with global partners, we generate original data and research to strengthen countries’ ability to improve quality of life. We focus on education, health, adult labor and working conditions, child labor, poverty, equal rights and discrimination, childhood, gender, marriage, family, aging, disability, and environment — and we’re constantly broadening our reach globally. We believe that fully accessible, actionable data holds tremendous power to shape economies, human health, development, and equity. WORLD aims to make distilled, comparative
data readily available to any person, anywhere, and to aid civil society in efforts to hold decision makers accountable for effective policies and programs. We also partner directly with governments worldwide to support evidencebased approaches that truly create change. Our partners include UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO, ILO, the Gates Foundation, the Clinton Foundation, and universities around the world.

Our databases are one of a kind — distilling mountains of globally dispersed information into elegant, visual tools useful to anyone. Picture this: you want to know what steps your country is taking to reduce poverty, increase access to education, and prevent child labor. For each topic, our team has combed the landscape for all relevant legislation — across borders and languages — translating thousands of pages of confusing text into quickly accessed, compelling, interactive maps to show where your country stands. Country comparisons that show where
better policies are feasible are just as simple. What could have required 20,000 hours of labor sifting through reams of reports and laws generated internationally, we make available at the click of a mouse.

Our tools demystify data to empower civil society, citizens, and governments worldwide to improve their economies, health, wellbeing, and equity. Global and national leaders seek us out for transnational comparative data that can’t be found elsewhere. From U.S. senators to UN agencies, individuals and organizations have employed our data to measure progress and advocate for change. Citizens in 190 countries have accessed our data. We empower collectives of people, working together, to do the hard work of creating real, lasting change. We bridge the gaps between rigorous academic research, advocates, and civil society, and the policy
makers tasked with improving lives. Our tools increase the monitoring capacity of watchdog agencies nationally and globally and WORLD works directly with leaders to translate research into successful laws and policies. Our mapping tools, data visualizations, research on policy impact, and topic-specific, tailored summaries provide actionable steps for tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges.
