What a year – Thanks to You! It was another tremendous year for Central Missouri Athletics in 2016-17. Three teams, Jennies Soccer, Jennies Bowling and Mules Outdoor Track & Field, captured MIAA Championships. Additionally, Jennies Soccer won the MIAA Tournament and their third straight Central Region Championship, and Mules Golf repeated as Regional Champions. Seven teams finished in the top 25 of NCAA Division II, in either the final poll or at an NCAA Championship event, and 11 sports out of 17 qualified for NCAA postseason play. Jennies Soccer advanced to the national quarterfinals, while Jennies Basketball won an NCAA Tournament game. Mules football qualified for the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2010, and Mules Outdoor Track & Field finished 5th and Mules Golf finished 14th at their National Championships. Individually, UCM had 25 different All-America seasons and performances. Five were named MIAA Player of the Year: Jaylen Zachery of Mules Football was the Special Teams Player of the Year and Alex Springer the Men’s Golf Athlete of the Year. From Jennies Soccer, Ana Dilkes was named the Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year, Jada Scott the Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year, and Emily Eldridge the Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Jennies Soccer Coach Lewis Theobald was named the Central Region Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year, and Tucker Woolsey the Men’s Track and Field Regional Assistant Coach of the Year for his work with the Mules throwers. These outstanding accomplishments helped UCM to win the 2016-17 MIAA Commissioner’s Cup as the top overall athletic department in the conference. Central Missouri also finished 20th in the Division II Learfield Cup standings, the 17th time in the last 18 years finishing in the top-20. Our 500-plus student-athletes continued their success in the classroom as well, with 252 studentathletes being named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, including 20 Academic Excellence Awards earned by student-athletes with perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Twenty-two UCM student-athletes were honored as MIAA Scholar-Athletes, boasting grade point averages of 3.5 or higher and having earned All-MIAA honors in their respective sports. In addition, six UCM student-athletes were named to the Academic All-America Teams in their respective sports, and Carly Thomas of Jennies Bowling earned the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Tonight, we celebrate these accomplishments and more as we look forward to a great 2017-18 season!
