It’s a Family Affair
I
n 1989 Hedi Movahedi and his family opened opened Hedi’s Shoes in the picturesque Barnyard Shopping Village at the mouth of beautiful Carmel Valley. With absolutely no previous experience in the shoe business, Hedi opened with no more than his passion for business, his sense of adventure and a handshake lease. Now, more than 25 years later, Hedi’s Shoes continues to thrive as the Monterey Peninsula’s favorite stop for quality comfort footwear, apparel and accessories. True to his pioneering spirit, Hedi spends his time hunting for unique products to entice and delight his clientele. He was one of the first retailers to introduce ECCO shoes to the U.S. Market, and to this day, his favorite part of the business is unearthing undiscovered lines and designers and showcasing them on his sales floor. Hedi’s currently carries all your favorite brands, including ECCO, Mephisto, Clarks, Rieker, Taos, Beautifeel, Taryn Rose, Pas de Rouge, Paul Green, Gentle Souls, SAS, Munro, New Balance, UGG, Finn Comfort, Birkenstock, Gabor, and many more. Today, it is Shara, Hedi’s daughter, who is at the helm, carrying on her father’s dream of a full service footwear salon. It is Hedi & Shara’s to mission continue the tradition of serving customers in a warm and inviting environment, with a knowledgable staff well versed in the art of shoe-fitting. The team at Hedi’s is committed to fitting customers in shoes that fit their feet, fit their needs and fit their style. At Hedi’s, you can expect to be on a first-name basis with the team member serving you. You’ll have your feet and arches measured properly and the team will happily make suggestions to help you find the perfect shoe. Hedi believes that it is this dedication to personal service that has made Hedi’s Shoes so successful. To experience Hedi’s Shoes for yourself, stop in to any of the three Peninsula locations, The Barnyard Shopping Village, Ocean Ave in Carmel by the Sea, or on Alvarado Street in historic downtown Monterey, or their newest venture, Shu in Del Monte Shopping Center. You’ll most certainly catch a glimpse of Shara on a fitting stool waiting on a customer, or Hedi chatting with an old friend and you’ll always be welcomed with a smile.

Carmel is a community rich in the history and traditions of early California. Carmel’s Bohemian founders fought to maintain the outdoor mystique and small-town appeal and their efforts are still evident today. The residential district has no sidewalks or street lights, and the beach is unadulterated by commercial development. Homes are known only by name and have no street addresses. Diverse sights and activities await visitors to Carmel who can easily set their own pace taking life as energetically or as leisurely as they desire. Within the village, visitors can relax, unwind and

ne of the most pleasurable and important experiences at Weber Goldsmith Gallery is the opportunity to interact with owner/ designer Bradley D. Weber himself. As our world becomes more impersonal it is notable that the personal touch is what sets Brad apart from the pack. It is the combination of old world approachability and cutting edge design elements that create the pleasing blend that is WGG. Brad has over 30 years experience in the custom jewelry design world and the reputation to prove it. He has received many International Spectrum design awards, the jewelry industries Oscars. One of which, Neptune’s Birth, is on permanent display at GIA’s headquarters and was honored by being the featured piece for their poster, promoting the Year of the Pearl and distributed globally. The clearly evident strong suit of Brad and WGG is in custom creations. Be it a completely new custom piece or a re-design of beloved heirloom jewelry, Brad is the one who excels in creating the exact piece one has in mind. Christine, his store manager of 11 years, often says that this compilation of information, from concept to fruition, is truly Brad’s forte. In keeping up with technological growth, Weber’s has added the CAD/CAM skills of Rob Officer, his on premises Master Goldsmith and Graduate Gemologist. Together they posses all the tools and techniques necessary to hand craft or mill
each custom masterpiece in the on-site shop. In addition to crafting new pieces, WGG also has an astonishing collection of Brad’s designs for sale in the gallery. Carmel is well known as an historical artists enclave, however all that notoriety comes at a cost. Brad consciously chose The Crossroads shopping village, just south of downtown Carmel on Highway One as the location for his spacious showroom and goldsmith shop. The Crossroads enables both the local residents and out of town guests to enjoy a more relaxed and personal shopping experience with an additional artistic flair. You will be inspired by Weber Goldsmith Gallery.

OLD FISHERMAN’S WHARF Old Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey was built in 1846 for the many trading vessels bringing goods from around Cape Horn. Today visitors seek out a bit of history and the finest fresh seafood meals served anywhere. While the focus may have changed, the wharf is still a working wharf. One of the many ways the old blends with the new is with whale watching and fishing trips. Visitors can enjoy a sightseeing cruise to view migrating whales or a fishing trip to bring back a limit of fish.
