Castroville Artichoke Festival Celebrates its 56th Year! May 30–31
R
eturning to the Monterey County Fair and Events Center for the second year, the Castroville Artichoke Food and Wine Festival is looking forward to even bigger and better happenings to honor the food designated California s and Monterey County s Official Vegetable. Such royalty deserves only the best and after last year s successful event at the fairgrounds, festival organizers are planning for more events, food, entertainment, and vendors. Because of last year s record breaking attendance, the festival is expanding the site, allowing for freer flow of people and more spots to relax and enjoy the entertainment. In addition to the acts and bands scheduled for the main stage, there will be concerts in the arena both afternoons. Food is the main attraction at this year s festival; artichokes boiled, grilled, fried, sautéed, stuffed in a tamale, burrito or ravioli and served over pasta, chicken and tri-tip. Backing up the entrée will be gourmet food trucks and those gotta-have fair foods. For those with a thirst there are pavilions for wine tasting, micro-brew tasting , and tequila tasting as well as smoothies and the latest in juicing. Cooking demonstrations by local celebrity chefs, including Tony Baker from Montrio, Todd Fischer of Tarpy s, Dion Foster of 12
Hahn Winery, Adrienne Meiner of Healthy Eating fame, and KGO s Ryan Scott are scheduled to heat up their stoves. Fantastic artichoke artworks made on site Saturday will vie for prizes and the ever popular artichoke eating contest and a harvesting contest will be held Saturday and Sunday. For the fun of it, take a field tour and pick your own as well as taking fabulous selfies in the artichoke patch. A farmer s market, sponsored principally by Ocean Mist Farms, the largest grower of artichokes in California, will be open and Priced to sell ! On Saturday Chris Janson, Dallas Smith and High Valley will fill the arena with country music and on Sunday, Louie and the Lovers, the Texas Tornados and Banda S-7 will perform Tex-Mex. For the kids there will be water walking and games galore. Bring your family and friends to the 56th Annual Castroville Artichoke Food and Wine Festival at the Monterey County Fair and Event Center, 2004 Fairground Road just off Fremont Street in Monterey. For tickets and information, call 831-633-2465 or visit www.artichokefestival.org. See you there!

here are few places on earth as incredibly dynamic, yet so quaint and picturesque as Carmel-by-the-Sea. Situated on the Bay of Carmel in this world-renowned scenic environment, visitors can immerse themselves in the incredible beauty and mesmerizing charm of Carmel’s unique brand of enchantment. Nestled in a pine forest above a spectacular white-sand beach, the one-square-mile village of Carmel offers endless vacation and cultural opportunities within an ecologically harmonious setting. Carmel is a community rich in the history and traditions of early California. Carmel’s Bohemian founders fought to maintain the outdoor mystique and small-town appeal and their efforts are still evident today. The residential district has no sidewalks or street lights, and the beach is unadulterated by commercial development. Homes are known only by name and have no street addresses. Diverse sights and activities await visitors to Carmel who can easily set their own pace taking life as energetically or as leisurely as they desire. Within the village, visitors can relax, unwind and

ne of the most pleasurable and important experiences at Weber Goldsmith Gallery is the opportunity to interact with owner/ designer Bradley D. Weber himself. As our world becomes more impersonal it is notable that the personal touch is what sets Brad apart from the pack. It is the combination of old world approachability and cutting edge design elements that create the pleasing blend that is WGG. Brad has over 30 years experience in the custom jewelry design world and the reputation to prove it. He has received many International Spectrum design awards, the jewelry industries Oscars. One of which, Neptune’s Birth, is on permanent display at GIA’s headquarters and was honored by being the featured piece for their poster, promoting the Year of the Pearl and distributed globally. The clearly evident strong suit of Brad and WGG is in custom creations. Be it a completely new custom piece or a re-design of beloved heirloom jewelry, Brad is the one who excels in creating the exact piece one has in mind. Christine, his store manager of 11 years, often says that this compilation of information, from concept to fruition, is truly Brad’s forte. In keeping up with technological growth, Weber’s has added the CAD/CAM skills of Rob Officer, his on premises Master Goldsmith and Graduate Gemologist. Together they posses all the tools and techniques necessary to hand craft or mill
each custom masterpiece in the on-site shop. In addition to crafting new pieces, WGG also has an astonishing collection of Brad’s designs for sale in the gallery. Carmel is well known as an historical artists enclave, however all that notoriety comes at a cost. Brad consciously chose The Crossroads shopping village, just south of downtown Carmel on Highway One as the location for his spacious showroom and goldsmith shop. The Crossroads enables both the local residents and out of town guests to enjoy a more relaxed and personal shopping experience with an additional artistic flair. You will be inspired by Weber Goldsmith Gallery.

Self guided tours of the Carmel Mission are available as well as a mandatory visit to the Mission Museum gift shop. The Carmel Mission is located at 3080 Rio Road, Carmel, CA. OLD FISHERMAN’S WHARF Old Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey was built in 1846 for the many trading vessels bringing goods from around Cape Horn. Today visitors seek out a bit of history and the finest fresh seafood meals served anywhere. While the focus may have changed, the wharf is still a working wharf. One of the many ways the old blends with the new is with whale watching and fishing trips. Visitors can enjoy a sightseeing cruise to view migrating whales or a fishing trip to bring back a limit of fish.
