Welcome... Milwaukee is referred to often as “America’s best-kept secret.” With its outgoing residents and year-round calendar of events, the city enjoys a growing reputation as a destination that will never disappoint.
Crisp air and snowy landscapes greet visitors to Milwaukee this time of year. The heartiest enjoy outdoor recreation and sights, but there are plenty of indoor activities to keep everyone entertained. Milwaukee has wonderful restaurants in neighborhoods all across the city. You’ll find cuisines from around the world. Our museums warmly welcome winter visitors. The Milwaukee Art Museum, Discovery World, The Milwaukee Public Museum and Betty Brinn Children’s Museum are favorites. And, look to our universities and neighborhoods for smaller museums, which are gems of culture and information. As the cool weather sets in, the performing arts heat up. Our symphony, ballet and theatre companies are all world class. Milwaukee weather pushes many inside, and during our winter, inside is a fine place to be.

Don’t let freezing temperatures, snow and ice keep you from celebrating the start of 2015. Milwaukee offers countless fun, familyfriendly opportunities, regardless of winter weather. Pull out winter coats, hats, gloves and snow pants for a trip to one of Milwaukee County’s award-winning parks. Enjoy sledding and tobogganing, ice skate at Red Arrow Park, or build a snowman. For a more relaxing winter experience, stroll through Cathedral Square or take a carriage ride downtown. Take advantage of Milwaukee’s outstanding arts community by visiting the Third Ward’s art galleries, enjoying a concert at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts or a play at one of Milwaukee’s great theaters. No matter what you choose to do in Milwaukee County, I hope you enjoy your time with us.

Green roof, LED technology puts Rockwell on cutting edge of smart manufacturing
R
ockwell Automation’s AllenBradley Clock Tower, one of the most familiar landmarks in Metro Milwaukee, today does much more than provide the correct time. When completed in 1962, the huge south-side clock was the world’s largest four-faced clock and for many travelers symbolized Milwaukee’s role as one of the world’s leading manufacturing centers. Second in size today to Saudi Arabia’s Mecca Royal Hotel tower clock, Milwaukee’s big clock now symbolizes

what Rockwell Automation calls “smart, safe and sustainable manufacturing.” Rockwell Automation, Inc., is the world’s largest company dedicated to industrial automation and information. Since energy cost control is essential to smart manufacturing, it was only natural for Rockwell Automation to move from fluorescent bulbs to LED technology in its landmark clock, cutting its energy consumption by nearly 80%. Recently, the temperature tower light bulbs were upgraded from incandescent to LED, re-
ducing energy consumption by 87%. The lighting changes followed another significant sustainability project. Since 2010, Rockwell Auto-

Milwaukee Landmarks g
mation has operated the state’s largest vegetated green roof on one level, a 48,500-square-foot section of the roof below the clock tower. The green roof is designed to manage 1.3 million gallons of storm water annually, alleviating the strain on the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District. The roof also reduces energy consumption through its insulation properties and absorption of solar energy. Rockwell Automation’s most recent Corporate Social Responsibility Report stresses that the company’s “mission to make the world more productive and sustainable” starts with its “own choices, behavior and actions.” Those efforts have led to Rockwell Automation’s selection
as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability North American Index composed of companies that outperform in environmental management, occupational health and safety, corporate government and corporate citizenship. “Our company’s long-term sustainability depends on our ability to address the major trends shaping society and the global economy,” says Rockwell Chairman and CEO Keith D. Nosbusch. “This is our responsibility as we pursue our mission to improve the standard of living for everyone by making the world more productive and sustainable.”
