FEATURED EXHIBIT: Jewels of Titanic Fifteen of the most prestigious artifacts recovered from the wreck site of Titanic have been gathered into one of the most dazzling collections ever assembled and are on display now! As part of a three-city tour, Jewels of Titanic, presented by Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, features diamonds, sapphires, pearls and gold jewelry that once belonged to some of Titanic’s wealthiest passengers. The Five Hundy by Midnight Podcast By Scott Roeben

Some things are essential when you visit Las Vegas, like sunglasses, walking shoes and birth control. But here’s something you may not have on your list: The Five Hundy by Midnight podcast, featuring Tim and Michele Dressen. If you’ve never heard this pair’s weekly podcast, you’re missing out on an invaluable resource which provides both a treasure trove of Las Vegas news and reviews, as well as a fair amount of entertainment along the way. The Dressens are avid, almost obsessive, fans of Las Vegas, evidenced by the fact they recently uploaded their 400th show. They visit Las Vegas often from their home state of Minnesota, unearthing the city’s hidden gems and sharing their finds with fans. The podcast’s name, Five Hundy by Midnight, was inspired by a line in the movie, “Swingers.” To what does the pair credit the podcast’s longevity? Tim Dressen says, “As much fun as it is to record the show, it’s the interaction with the audience that keeps it going. We’re fortunate to have a lot of really dedicated listeners who enjoy what we do. Getting to know them online and in person over the years has been extremely rewarding.”

A popular portion of the podcast is devoted to calls from those listeners, who provide trip reports and refreshingly honest reviews of shows, restaurants and attractions. Ultimately, though, the main draw of the podcast is the rapport between Tim and Michele Dressen, including the humor, disagreements and even the occasional interruptions, courtesy of their dogs. (They record the show in their home.) Each episode provides a plethora of recommendations to make the most of one’s visit. Ask Michele about some of her favorite things in Sin City, and she’ll rattle off, “The chicken parm sliders at Mob Bar, the pancakes at Du-par’s, the Verbena cocktail at Chandelier Bar (at Cosmopolitan), the chili cheese fries at American Coney Island (downtown, at The D), the fountains of Bellagio and hitting that elusive royal flush on video poker.” Some of the most enjoyable parts of Five Hundy by Midnight are the rants. Tim says, “My pet peeve is anything that stands between me and wherever I’m walking on The Strip. Sometimes it’s people walking too slowly, sometimes it’s those annoying costumed characters who clog the sidewalks. Get out of my way, people. I knew I was destined to do.” “In my late-teens and early twenties I got hypnotized, repeatedly,” said Sylver. “At around the age of 23, I made a full-time commitment to hypnosis. Because, I knew that I could not only 58

entertain people, and I could also change the quality of their lives at the same time.” “I think there are people who

are saying, ‘Let’s go see a show that’s not a kids show, not an adult show either, not naughty…but, let’s go see a show that will blow our minds, make us laugh, have some fun and then let’s make this a lifechanging vacation by coming back the next day.’” That is the key that Sylver is banking on. A major part of Sylver’s new show, “Real Hypnosis, Really Funny”, is that it sits somewhere on the line of entertainment and education. He invites his audience to come back the morning after the show for an educational look at the power of hypnosis and how you can change your life for the better, whatever that personal route may be. “I want to make people laugh. And when people laugh, they open up their subconscious mind for new powerful programs,” Sylver said. “So if you want to teach someone something, teach them through humor. They’ll learn it that way. The other thing that I want though, is, I want people to watch my show and when they see not just the funny stuff, but when they see the amazing thing in the show that just blows their mind, they ask the question, ‘If you can do that in the course of a show, how can I apply this to my relationships?’ ‘Could I use this to become closer

to my mate, or could I use this to become a millionaire?’” Real Hypnosis, Really Funny is a show unlike any you’ve ever seen before. Sylver includes original acts like “bloodless surgery,” “time travel” and “telepathic hypnosis.” There will be a full-size helicopter on stage. He will perform acts such as having three female volunteers from the audience come on stage to create a human staircase that he will walk up. With acts like these, it shouldn’t be hard to leave amazed, and wanting to come back in the morning. The follow-up morning show called “A Taste of Prosperity,” is a very unique experience as well. Sylver gets back on stage and explains how he did all the hypnosis the night before; telling “exactly how the mind operates, and how we program our mind.” “How to use (our minds) for better relationships, for more money and for better emotional, physical and mental well-being,” said Sylver. He’ll also be giving away tens of thousands of dollars-worth of cash and prizes during the show. Real Hypnosis, Really Funny is set to launch May 15th at Planet Hollywood on Sunday through Thursday nights at 7pm.

Today: What says "Las Vegas" to you, more than anything else? Douglas: The tourists that come to Vegas, make Vegas... VEGAS! Sure there are the neon lights, casinos with more that 5,000 rooms, and man-made lakes with dancing fountains in the middle of the desert, but it's the diverse people from all walks of life who come here for that once in a lifetime vacation. And for many, it is their goal to live out that very famous statement, “What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas.” And for that, I am so glad to be a part of their dream vacation.

Today: Craziest Vegas story you care to share? Douglas: Without giving away names and details, one Friday night I was out and bought a cute girl a drink, and then the next night, a woman walked up to me and bought me a drink. After 20 minutes, I realized the woman I was talking to was the Mom of the girl from the night before. That's gives a whole new meaning to “keeping it in the family!”

Today: Where do you eat in Vegas at night? Douglas: On Friday nights, I co-produce the Sapphire Comedy Hour show. After the show, the cast, producers, and myself all head over to the Cosmopolitan and dine at STK. The food is to die for and it also has a great late night vibe where all the hottest locals and tourists come to play and be seen. During the week, my new favorite place to eat is the Meatball Spot at Town Square; great menu selections, awesome prices and who would have thought you can do so much with a meatball!

Today: Best place to see the sexy people? Douglas: I would say standing on line in 60

of days, and staying on the strip, take a taxi one day downtown and check out the Mob Museum and the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop (where they film the show Pawn Stars).

Today: What show have you seen in Las Vegas that stands out in your memory and why? Douglas: Past Shows: Siegfried and Roy for the pure spectacle; Lance Burton for magic in an intimate setting at a super affordable price; and then Wayne Newton because he is a Las Vegas legend. Current shows: Zumanity as the performers’ physical talents are the star of the show and I love the interior design of the theater; Donny & Marie as this is an entertainment clinic from show pacing to interacting with the audience; Frank Marino’s Divas as Frank is a hilarious host; Human Nature as they have reimagined the Motown sound with a young and hip approach.

Today: Where do you see the most art in Las Vegas? Douglas: Some people might not call it traditional art, but I think everybody should book a tour of the Neon Boneyard. To me, the old signs with neon and light bulbs are true art, and it is something that is indigenous to the history of Las Vegas.

Today: Best place to be single and mingle? Douglas: My living room - ladies I am single and ready to mingle! I do find as I get older, I’m drawn more to lounges and bars as opposed to the nightclub scene since the music isn’t as loud, so it is easier to talk and be able to hear what the person you bought a drink is saying.

Today: Time to plug, tell us about yourself: Douglas: I play Lefty, the comical sidekick and guest act in Murray: Celebrity Magician at Tropicana’s Laugh Factory. I am the ongoing creative director for Tommy Wind: Magic and Music, the show at the Boulevard Theater and I just finished as a magic consultant for Jarrett & Raja in the America’s Got Talent show at the Palazzo.
