THE GAME: The University of Connecticut men’s basketball team faces Rutgers on Saturday at the RAC in Piscataway, N.J. at 8 p.m. The game will be televised by SportsNet New York. UConn enters the contest with a record of 12-2 and come off a 75-63 defeat at Seton Hall on January 3 in Newark, N.J. The Huskies are being paced by All-America candidate Jeremy Lamb at 18.9 points per game and by Bob Cousy Award candidate Shabazz Napier at 14.1 points and 6.4 assists per contest. UConn is ranked No. 8 nationally in the Associated Press poll and No. 8 in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 ranking. Rutgers is 8-7 after an 85-64 loss at home against West Virginia on January 4. UConn owns a 34-13 all-time mark against Rutgers.

Calhoun’s totals do NOT include games during suspension.  Coach Calhoun will be back on the bench against Rutgers after serving a three-game suspension. The Huskies went 2-1 during his absence.  Connecticut ranks second in the BIG EAST Conference in FG percentage (48.5) and FG percentage defense (36.8).The Huskies are currently ranked No. 4 in the nation with 7.57 blocks per game.  UConn shot 60-percent against St. John’s on Dec. 31. It was just the fourth time in seven seasons dating back to the start of the 2004-05 campaign that the Huskies hit over 60-percent from the field.
