Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan in either the tourney’s championship game (6:30 p.m.) or the third-place game (4:30 p.m.). Either game will be televised by ESPN2.

THE GAME: The nationally-ranked (#17/17) UConn men’s basketball team continues play in the 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off, meeting Dayton in the tournament semifinals. The game will begin at 2:30 p.m. (EST) and will be televised by ESPN2. The Huskies (2-0) are coming off a 65-57 victory over College of Charleston in the tournament first round on Thursday. UConn is led by senior Ryan Boatright, averaging 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. Amida Brimah is averaging 13.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Dayton (2-0) defeated Texas A&M, 55-53 in the tournament’s first round.

The Flyers are paced by junior forward Dyshawn Pierre (15.0 ppg).

TOURNAMENT TIME: For the 10th consecutive season, the UConn Huskies are participating in a November tournament --- this season, it is the 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off, held at the Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan. It is UConn’s first appearance in Puerto Rico.

In the nine previous tournaments, beginning in 2005-06, the Huskies own a sparkling 25-4 record (.862), including five tournament championships and three runner-up positions. The five titles came in the 2005 Maui Invitational, the 2006 Hispanic College Fund Classic, the 2008 Paradise Jam, the 2010 Maui Invitational, and last year in the 2013 2K Sports Classic.

The 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off takes place over Nov. 20-23, with teams playing three of the four days --- Thursday, Friday, and Sun-

day. UConn opened the tournament with a win against College of Charleston on Thursday, and will compete in the semifinals today against the University of Dayton at 2:30 p.m.

(EST), televised on ESPN2.

A victory today would send the Huskies into the Puerto Rico Tipoff championship game on Sunday (6:30 p.m.) against the survivor of the lower half of the bracket --which includes Boston College, West Virginia, New Mexico and George Mason. A loss today would put UConn into the third-place game on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

After Thursday’s win, UConn has a combined record of 77-45 against the other seven teams in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off: 3-0 vs.

HISTORY VS. DAYTON: Today’s game will be only the third meeting between UConn and Dayton, and all three have been in a tournament setting. The Flyers own a 2-0 mark against the Huskies. Dayton topped UConn, 76-75 in overtime on March 10, 1982, at Dayton in the first round of the postseason NIT. The Flyers also defeated UConn, 80-66, on Nov. 20, 2000, in the first round of the Maui Invitational.

TIP-OFF VICTORY: UConn rebounded from a sub-par shooting performance in the first half to shoot 63.2 percent in the second half on its way to a 65-57 win over a stubborn College of Charleston team in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Charleston closed to within four points twice in the second half, but UConn’s Ryan Boatright (19 points), Daniel Hamilton (15) and Amida Brimah (14) kept the Huskies in front.

TOP 25: UConn is ranked among the Top 25 in both the Associated Press and the ESPN-USA Today polls of Nov. 17. The Huskies are No. 17 in the AP poll and No. 17 in the ESPN-USA Today poll. It is the fifth consecutive poll to include the Huskies, counting the last three weeks of polls last season. UConn was among the AP Top 25 in 15 of the 20 weekly polls last year. The longest consecutive streak for UConn to be ranked in the Top 25 is 77 straight weeks, a span from November, 1997-January, 2001. Seven of UConn’s 2014-15 opponents also appear in the Top 25 or ‘Others Receiving Votes.’ That number could rise to eight if the Huskies play Dayton in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. GOOD START: UConn won its 15th straight season opener and extended its perfect record to 26-0 in Gampel Pavilion openers with a 66-53 victory over Bryant on Nov. 14.

Senior Ryan Boatright led a second-half comeback that saw the Huskies rally from a nine-point deficit in the second half for the win. Boatright scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, handed out 5 assists, and had 4 steals in an outstanding all-around performance. Sophomore center Amida Brimah added 12 points and 5 blocked shots, while sophomore forward Kentan Facey grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds.

NATIONAL RECOGNITION: UConn has produced two of the last four winners of the Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award in Kemba Walker in 2011 and Shabazz Napier in 2014. The Huskies are in the running for another in 2015 as senior Ryan Boatright has been named to the watch list of 35 players for the 2015 Cousy Award. The list will be narrowed to 20 in early February and then the final 5 by early March. The winner will be presented the award on Championship Monday in Indianapolis. Boatright, the American Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year, has also been named to the Top 50 watch list for the John R. Wooden Award, presented to the top collegiate player at season’s end.

AAC HONOR ROLL: UConn senior guard Ryan Boatright was named to the first American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll of the 2014-15 season following his performance against Bryant.

CONSECUTIVE GAMES: UConn junior Phil Nolan owns the longest current streak of games played by a UConn player with 51 straight games. Senior Ryan Boatright owns the longest consecutive starts streak with 12.

LONGEST WIN STREAK: By virtue of its six-game run through last season’s NCAA Tournament, plus two wins this season, UConn owns the longest current winning streak in Division I at eight in a row.

ALL-TIME LIST: With 19 points against College of Charleston, UConn senior Ryan Boatright has 1,237 career points, 32nd on the Huskies’ all-time scoring list. No. 31 on the list is Tate George (1986-90) with 1,247 points.

UCONN HUSKIES IN THE NBA As of the start of the 2014-15 NBA season, nine former UConn players were on NBA rosters, with a few others possibly waiting in the wings.

The nine former Huskies are on eight different NBA rosters, and total a combined 60 seasons of NBA experience. The UConn nine are led by Caron Butler (Pistons), in his 13th NBA season. The eight other former Huskies on NBA rosters include Ben Gordon (Magic), in his 11th year, Charlie Villanueva (Mavericks), in his 10th year, Rudy Gay (Kings), in his 9th season, A.J. Price (Pacers), in his 6th year, Kemba Walker (Bobcats), in his 4th NBA season, Jeremy Lamb (Thunder) and Andre Drummond (Pistons), each in his 3rd year, and Shabazz Napier (Heat) in his rookie season.

Former Huskies Ray Allen, Emeka Okafor, and Jeff Adrien are free agents who have been mentioned as possible early- or mid-season signees by NBA teams.
