 UP NEXT: UConn has a week off before returning 

to action, entertaining the nationally-ranked Texas Longhorns at Gampel Pavilion on Sunday, Nov. 30, at noon. The game will be televised by ESPN2. It is the first game of a home-and-home series with Texas, with the Huskies visiting Austin in 2015-16.

THE GAME: The nationally-ranked (#17/17) UConn men’s basketball team plays in the championship game of the 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off, meeting West Virginia at Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan. The game begins at 6:30 p.m. (EST) and will be televised by ESPN2. The Huskies (3-0) are coming off a 75-64 victory over Dayton in Friday’s semifinals. UConn is led by Ryan Boatright, averaging 21.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. West Virginia (4-0) is coming off a 70-66 win over Boston College in the tournament semifinals on Friday. The Mountaineers are led by sophomore forward Devin Williams, averaging 15.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.

TOURNAMENT TIME: UConn will be going after its second consecutive November tournament championship and its sixth in the last 10 years when it meets West Virginia tonight in the title contest of the 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan. It is UConn’s first appearance in Puerto Rico. In the nine previous tournaments, beginning in 2005-06, the Huskies own a sparkling 25-4 record (.862), including five tournament championships and three runner-up positions. The five titles came in the 2005 Maui Invitational, the 2006 Hispanic College Fund Classic, the 2008 Paradise Jam, the 2010 Maui Invitational, and last year in the 2013 2K Sports Classic. The 2014 Puerto Rico Tip-Off takes place over Nov. 20-23, with teams playing three of

the four days --- Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. UConn opened the tournament with a win against College of Charleston on Thursday, and defeated Dayton, 75-64, in Friday’s semifinals. West Virginia came out of the lower half of the PRTO bracket, defeating George Mason, 91-65, in the first round and Boston College, 70-66, in the semifinals. Sunday’s lineup of games includes College of Charleston vs. George Mason in the seventh-place game at 11:30 a.m., Texas A&M vs. New Mexico in the fifth-place game at 2 p.m., Dayton vs. Boston College in the third-place game at 4:30 p.m., and UConn and West Virginia for the championship at 6:30 p.m. After wins on Thursday and Friday, UConn has a combined record of 78-45 against the

HISTORY VS. WEST VIRGINIA: UConn and West Virginia have a 21-game history, dating back to 1963. The Huskies have a 16-5 overall record against the Mountaineers, 15-4 in during the 17 seasons that they were both members of the Big East Conference. UConn has won four of its last five games against West Virginia, including the last two. The last time the teams met was on March 7, 2012, at Madison Square Garden in the second round of the Big East Championship. The 71-67 UConn victory in overtime was the final win of Jim Calhoun’s 873-win career.

AAC HONOR ROLL: UConn senior guard Ryan Boatright was named to the first American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll of the 2014-15 season following his performance against Bryant.

SEMI-TOUGH: UConn and Dayton battled through seven ties and eight lead changes before the Huskies took charge defensively in the second half for the 75-64 victory in the Tip-Off semifinals on Nov. 21. Ryan Boatright had 20 points, Rodney Purvis had 19 and Daniel Hamilton scored 14 to lead the Huskies, while Amida Brimah’s five blocked shots were key. TIP-OFF TRIUMPH: UConn rebounded from a sub-par shooting performance in the first half to shoot 63.2 percent in the second half on its way to a 65-57 win over a stubborn College of Charleston team in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. Charleston closed to within four points twice in the second half, but UConn’s Ryan Boatright (19 points), Daniel Hamilton (15) and Amida Brimah (14) kept the Huskies in front. GOOD START: UConn won its 15th straight season opener and extended its perfect record to 26-0 in Gampel Pavilion openers with a 66-53 victory over Bryant on Nov. 14. Senior Ryan Boatright led a second-half comeback that saw the Huskies rally from a nine-point deficit in the second half for the win. Boatright scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, handed out 5 assists,

LONGEST WIN STREAK: By virtue of its six-game run through last season’s NCAA Tournament, plus three wins this season, UConn owns the longest current winning streak in Division I at nine in a row. TOP 25: UConn is ranked among the Top 25 in both the Associated Press and the ESPN-USA Today polls of Nov. 17. The Huskies are No. 17 in the AP poll and No. 17 in the ESPN-USA Today poll. It is the fifth consecutive poll to include the Huskies, counting the last three weeks of polls last season. UConn was among the AP Top 25 in 15 of the 20 weekly polls last year. UCONN HUSKIES IN THE NBA As of the start of the 2014-15 NBA season, nine former UConn players were on NBA rosters, with a few others possibly waiting in the wings. The nine former Huskies are on eight different NBA rosters, and total a combined 60 seasons of NBA experience. The UConn nine are led by Caron Butler (Pistons), in his 13th NBA season. The eight other former Huskies on NBA rosters include Ben Gordon (Magic), in his 11th year, Charlie Villanueva (Mavericks), in his 10th year, Rudy Gay (Kings), in his 9th season, A.J. THE AAC PRESEASON LISTS: UConn was picked to finish No. 1 in the conference, UConn senior guard Ryan Boatright was named the Preseason Player of the Year and freshman guard/forward Daniel Hamilton was selected the Preseason Rookie of the Year by a vote of the league’s coaches. Boatright was also a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Conference First Team, while sophomore center Amida Brimah was voted to the AllConference Second Team. NATIONAL RECOGNITION: UConn has produced two of the last four winners of the Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award in Kemba Walker in 2011 and Shabazz Napier in 2014. The Huskies are in the running for another in 2015 as senior Ryan Boatright has been named to the watch list of 35 players for the 2015 Cousy Award. The list will be narrowed to 20 in early February and then the final 5 by early March. The winner will be presented the award on Championship Monday in Indianapolis. Boatright has also been named to the Top 50 watch list for the John R. Wooden Award, presented to the top collegiate player at season’s end. Boatright was also honored as ESPN named him No. 10 on their list of the Top 100 College Players in America. ANOTHER 30-, 20-WIN SEASON: Last season’s 32-8 record marked the ninth 30win season in UConn history, all within the last 25 years. It also extended UConn’s streak of seasons of 20 wins or more to four straight, six of the last seven years, and 15 of the last 17 seasons.
