TEAM NOTES - UConn won the national championship for the NCAA record-tying eighth time in school history, defeating fellow American Athletic Conference member Louisville, 93-60, on April 9 in New Orleans. Kelly Faris, Bria Hartley and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis were honored on the All-NCAA Tournament Team while Breanna Stewart was selected as the Final Four MOP. Stewart’s selection was only the fourth all-time by a freshman and she is only the third Husky (Diana Taurasi and Maya Moore are the others) to be named MOP of the Regional and Final Four in the same season. - UConn returns three starters and seven of its top-eight scorers from last year’s national championship squad. The Huskies will be without the services of Heather Buck, Caroline Doty and Kelly Faris who were each lost to graduation. Faris had a breakout season in 2012-13, averaging 10.2 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting .593 percent from the floor and earning a starting assignment in all 39 of the Huskies’ games. Faris was honored as the Big East Defensive Player of the Year and was a finalist for the National Defensive Player of the Year Award. She was selected with the 11th overall pick of the 2013 WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun after finishing her career at UConn with two national championships and four trips to the Final Four. - The Final Four trip was UConn’s 14th all-time, which is the second-most appearances in the history of the sport. Tennessee has appeared in a record 18 Final Fours. Stanford has the third-highest total of 11 Final Four trips. The Huskies enter the 201314 season having appeared in a record six-straight Final Fours and UConn has now advanced to at least the Final Four 11 times since 2000. - Connecticut finished 35-4 in 2012-13 to post its eighth-straight 30-win season. The Huskies eclipsed the 30-win plateau for the 18th time in the last 20 years. - Five Huskies competed with USA Basketball over the summer as Hartley and Mosqueda-Lewis earned gold for Team USA at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia and Moriah Jefferson, Stewart and Morgan Tuck led the Americans to gold at the U19 World Championship in Paneyezys, Lithuania. Stewart and Lewis now each have five gold medals while Hartley and Morgan Tuck have four each. Jefferson also has two gold medals. - Saniya Chong is the lone freshman on the 2013-14 roster. The Ossining, N.Y. native averaged 34.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game last season and helped her alma mater capture its first New York State Public Schools state championship ... She was honored as the National Player of the Year by Parade Magazine and the National High School Coaches Association. The Ossining, N.Y. native was also selected as the Gatorade New York State Player of the Year.

Geno Auriemma has redefined the meaning of success in college basketball in his 28 years as head coach of the University of Connecticut. During his illustrious tenure, Auriemma has transformed the UConn program into the standard that all others are measured, both on and off the court. On the court, his success includes eight national championships and complete dominance in the BIG EAST Conference, where the Huskies have garnered an eye-popping total of 37 combined BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles since his arrival. Off the court, success means a flawless graduation rate and one of the most beloved sports teams in the country. Under his guidance, the Huskies have been transformed from a program with only one winning record to its credit, to its current state, which includes eight national championships, 13 Final Fours and 19 BIG EAST regular season and 18 BIG EAST Tournament titles since Auriemma’s arrival in 1985. This unmatched success, which is the standard for collegiate programs nationally, was recognized with Auriemma’s induction into both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (Springfield, Mass.) and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame (Knoxville, Tenn.) in 2006. In addition, Auriemma recently agreed to serve as the USA Basketball Women’s National Team head coach for a second four-year term, culminating with the 2016 Olympics. Auriemma led the USA, which included six former Huskies, to an 8-0 record and to the gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. He is the only coach in women’s basketball history to guide a team to six consecutive Final Four appearances. Auriemma is a seven-time National Coach-of-the-Year and has been named the BIG EAST Coach-of-the-Year 10 times, including the 2010-11 honor. He reached the 600, 700 and 800-win mark faster than any other coach in the history of college basketball. UConn swept both the league regular season and tournament crowns in 15 different seasons - all since Auriemma has taken over the program’s reins. in 16 of the last 20 seasons and boast a current streak of 20 consecutive NCAA Regional appearances. Auriemma also guided UConn to its 18th 30-win season in 2012-13, all in the past 20 years. The Huskies swept both the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles in 2009-10 en route to a perfect 39-0 mark, the fourth perfect season in the program’s history and its seventh NCAA National Championship. In addition, Connecticut made even more history in 2008-09, as it became the first NCAA Division I basketball team (men’s or women’s) to go undefeated and beat each of its opponents by at least a 10-point margin. UConn captured its eighth national title in 2013 as Auriemma led the Huskies to a 35-4 record and a record sixth-straight appearance in the Final Four. Stefanie Dolson and Kaleena MosquedaLewis were both honored as All-Americans while Breanna Stewart became only the fourth freshman ever to be honored as the Most Outstanding Performer of the Final Four. The 2010-11 campaign saw the Huskies post an NCAA record 90-consecutive wins, which surpassed John Wooden’s UCLA teams’ iconic 88-game mark and put Conneticut even deeper in the national limelight. The team went on to finish 36-2 and post yet another BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Championship and advanced to the 12th Final Four in program history. The 2009-10 season saw the Huskies advance to their 11th Final Four and also marked the 10th time in the last 11 years that UConn has advanced to the NCAA Regional Final. The team put together its second-straight 39-0 season and enters the 2010-11 campaign on a record 78-game winning streak. The Huskies also swept the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament crowns for the third year in a row. Tina Charles and Maya Moore each earned All-America status with Charles winning the Wooden and Naismith Awards and being named Player of the Year by the Associated Press. Moore was honored with the Wade Trophy for the second-straight year by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The 2008-09 season saw UConn advance to its ninth NCAA Final Four and also marked the ninth time in the last 10 years overall that Connecticut has advanced to the NCAA Regional Final. Connecticut had three players earn first-team All-America status in 2008-09 as Renee Montgomery, Tina Charles and Maya Moore were each honored. Moore was also selected as the consensus national player of the year. As a freshman in 2007-08, Moore became the second straight Connecticut player to be recognized as the National Freshman of the Year and also was selected as the first ever freshman recipient (male or female) of the BIG EAST Player of the Year award. Tina Charles was honored in 2008. The 2006-07 campaign saw the Huskies post a perfect 16-0 record in conference play - marking the sixth time that UConn posted an unblemished BIG EAST record under Auriemma.

The 2003-04 season was a historical one - even for the traditionrich Connecticut program - as it became only the second program in NCAA history to win three consecutive national titles. The road to their third straight title was a bumpy one at times for the Huskies, but with Auriemma’s leadership the team never wavered from achieving their ultimate goal, despite encountering a few detours along the way. In 2003-04, the Huskies tied the NCAA-record for consecutive home court wins at 69 straight games and won the BIG EAST Regular Season Title for the 11th consecutive season. Senior standout Diana Taurasi was named Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four for the second straight year and was also honored as the Naismith National Player of the Year for the second time in her career, in addition to being the recipient of the Honda Award and the Nancy Lieberman Award. The 2002-03 season, despite an influx of new faces, mirrored Auriemma’s teams of the past. The squad continued the program’s winning tradition by bringing home UConn’s fourth women’s basketball national championship and also broke the NCAA Division I women’s record for most consecutive victories with 70-straight. Connecticut shattered the previous mark of 54 set by Louisiana Tech with its 55th-straight win on January 18, 2003, versus Georgetown in the Hartford Civic Center. For the fourth time in UConn history, the Huskies finished the regular season undefeated with a perfect 29-0 record. They went on to capture UConn’s 10th straight BIG EAST regular season title and continued their winning ways into the postseason, making their seventh Final Four appearance. After two competitive games in the Final Four, the Huskies earned their fourth NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship and became only the third school to do so in back-to-back years. Junior Diana Taurasi was named the 2003 Final Four Most Outstanding Player, while freshman Ann Strother was named to the Final Four All-Tournament team. It was the first time in women’s or men’s basketball history that a program earned the national championship without a senior on its roster. Accolades for the 2002-03 season continued to pour in. Auriemma was named the BIG EAST Coach of the Year as well as the United States Basketball Writer’s Association (USBWA) Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year and Associated Press Coach of the Year. Taurasi garnered Player of the Year honors from the Associated Press, USBWA and Naismith and earned the Wade Trophy and the NCAA Honda Award for the nation’s most outstanding women’s basketball player. Taurasi earned her second straight Kodak All-America award and was named Associated Press First Team All-America for her outstanding play and leadership during UConn’s 37-1 run through the 2002-03 championship season. Auriemma’s 2001-02 squad recorded the second undefeated season in program history with a 39-0 mark and registered UConn’s third national championship and sixth Final Four appearance. Auriemma’s teams also won the 1995 and 2000 national titles. Featuring Kodak All-Americans Sue Bird, Swin Cash and Diana Taurasi, the 2001-02 Huskies posted an NCAA record-tying 39 wins and

a 35.4 average margin of victory, another NCAA record. His team also earned its 12th BIG EAST regular season title and 11th BIG EAST tournament crown as the Huskies made their 14th consecutive NCAA appearance. The 1999-2000 national championship season included a thenschool-record 19-straight weeks ranked No. 1 in the national polls and a final record of 36-1. UConn captured the program’s first national title in 1994-95, when Auriemma led the Huskies to a perfect 35-0 record. UConn was only the second team in Division I women’s basketball history to go undefeated en route to the national championship. The Huskies became the first unbeaten team in NCAA history (all divisions, men or women) to win 35 games in a season. Under Auriemma’s direction, UConn ranked second nationally in Division I victories in the 1990’s (Jan. 1, 1990-Dec. 31, 1999) with 290 total wins. The Huskies were also second in the nation in total winning percentage (.860) in the decade as well as establishing a BIG EAST record for conference victories (158). After inheriting a Husky program that had just one winning season in its 11-year history, Auriemma has posted 23 winning seasons since arriving at UConn in August of 1985. The Huskies also hold every BIG EAST single-game and single-season home-court attendance record. Since 1988-89, the first season the Huskies earned a BIG EAST regular season championship, UConn ranks No. 1 among all BIG EAST teams in league regular season wins (321-30, a .915 winning percentage). Coupled with UConn’s 55-6 (.902) record in BIG EAST Tournament action since 1989.

Pavilion and the XL Center. The Huskies have sold out 122 home games since 1997. Prior to taking the UConn position, Auriemma served as the primary assistant women’s coach at the University of Virginia under head coach Debbie Ryan from 1981-85. He helped lead the Cavaliers to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship in 1984. Before his Virginia position, Auriemma was assistant women’s basketball coach at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia with thenhead coach Jim Foster (now Ohio State women’s basketball head coach). He also coached boys’ basketball at his high school alma mater, Bishop Kenrick High School in Norristown, Pa., from 197981. Auriemma has found success even beyond the college coaching ranks due to his involvement with USA Basketball. In the summer of 2000, Auriemma represented the United States at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, as an assistant coach of the gold medal winning Olympic Team. That same summer, Auriemma led the 2000 USA Junior World Championship team to a gold medal in the COPABA Junior World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Argentina. Auriemma and the squad advanced to the 2001 FIBA Junior World Championship for women held in the Czech Republic in July of 2001, and returned with the bronze. In April of 1996, he was co-head coach of the National Senior All-Stars when the All-Stars met the United States National Team. The development of national caliber student-athletes has been Auriemma’s forte during his UConn coaching tenure. Every recruited freshman that has played for Auriemma at Connecticut and completed her eligibility at UConn has obtained her undergraduate degree. Impressively, since the 1991-92 season, 40 of UConn’s starters - 25 different players - have been on the Dean’s List. Among these 25 players are four of the most highly acclaimed women’s basketball players ever - Rebecca Lobo, Jennifer Rizzotti, Kara Wolters and Sue Bird. All four of these student-athletes earned Associated Press National Player of the Year honors and won the Wade Trophy and Honda Broderick Awards. Auriemma has coached 16 First Team WBCA/State Farm All-Americans, with the most recent selections of Stefanie Dolson and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis in 2013. riemma was named an assistant coach of the USA World University Games Women’s Basketball Team, which played in Fukuoka, Japan, in the summer of 1995; due to personal conflicts, however, he had to relinquish that position. He also served as head coach of the West Team at the 1993 U.S. Olympic Festival in San Antonio, Texas. In the summer of 2002, Auriemma was selected as a member of the inaugural induction class to the New England Basketball Hall of Fame and he was enshrined in the Italian-American Hall of Fame in November 2007. In addition to his coaching duties, Auriemma serves on several national basketball committees. He was a four-year member of the Kodak All-America Selection Committee and was named chair of that committee in January of 1992. He has also been a voting member of the USA TODAY/WBCA Top 25 Poll. He was recently named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Board of Directors and served as the organization’s president from 2009-11. Auriemma has also worked as an analyst during ABC’s and ESPN’s coverage of the WNBA in recent seasons. An accomplished speaker, Auriemma also is involved in numerous regional and state charitable and educational efforts. Auriemma also is affiliated with The V Foundation for Cancer Research. In 1993 The V Foundation for Cancer Research was founded by ESPN and Jim Valvano. It has raised more than $60 million and awarded cancer research grants in 37 states and the District of Columbia. Kathy and Geno Auriemma made the initial donation of $80,000 to the Sandy Hook School Memorial Scholarship Fund to set up endowed scholarships for those affected by the tragedy in Newtown. Auriemma served as co-chair of the Connecticut Arthritis Foundation. In May of 1994, Auriemma was awarded the prestigious UConn Club Outstanding Contribution Award for his service and commitment to Husky athletics. In tribute to the Huskies’ first NCAA National Championship, and for his commitment to intercollegiate athletes and service in the community, Auriemma received two special awards in 1995. He was one of four recipients of the 1995 Center for the Study of Sport in Society “National Student-Athlete Day Giant Steps Award”, presented in Boston. He was also honored with “Geno Auriemma Day” at the National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., on August 9, 1995. Auriemma has given back to the university as well. In November 1998, he and his wife Kathy gave a $125,000 gift to the University of Connecticut Library. Auriemma is a 1981 graduate of West Chester with a B.A. in political science. He resides in Manchester, Conn., with Kathy and has three children: Jenna (27), Alyssa (25) and Michael (21) and two grandsons, Christian, born August 2010 and Andrew, born May 2013.

Associate head coach Chris Dailey completed her 28th season with the UConn basketball program. Dailey has been instrumental in teaming with head coach Geno Auriemma to build UConn into an unquestioned national power. She is the coordinator of Connecticut’s highly successful recruiting efforts. Under her direction, Connecticut’s recruiting base spans the nation and the globe, with players joining the program from 29 different states, the District of Columbia and six foreign countries. Arriving at Connecticut in the summer of 1985 along with Auriemma, Dailey served as primary assistant coach from 1985-88. In September of 1988, she was promoted to associate head coach.

In Auriemma’s absence during the entire 1997 BIG EAST Conference Tournament from March 1-4 (due to the death of his father, Donato Auriemma), Dailey served as head coach, leading Connecticut to its fourth consecutive BIG EAST Tournament Championship. This marked the second time that a Dailey-directed UConn team earned the BIG EAST Tournament title. UConn’s 1989 team won its first league tourney crown under her direction (while Auriemma served a suspension for a scheduling error). Dailey earned her master’s degree in educational administration in 1999 from UConn and was honored in 2005 with the Distinguished Alumna Award from the Neag School of Education Alumni Society. This award is the highest single honor given by the Neag School of Education and presented annually to the graduate that has had a significant impact on education, has a national reputation for their work, has been an inspiration to other professionals and has shown continued involvement with the Neag School of Education. Dailey is a 1982 graduate of Rutgers with a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. A native of New Brunswick, N.J., Dailey is no stranger to collegiate basketball success. She was a four-year forward (from 1978-82) for the nationallyranked Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Dailey served as a team captain as a junior and senior, and, as a senior in 1981-82, she helped lead her Rutgers squad to the AIAW Division I National Championship, as the Scarlet Knights defeated Texas 83-77. During her four years at Rutgers, the team compiled a record of 108-23 (.824). Prior to Connecticut, Dailey served as the Cornell assistant basketball coach (1982-83) before returning to her alma mater as top assistant under head coach Theresa Grentz from 1983-85. In 1992, Chris was inducted into the Rutgers University Lady Knight Hall of Fame as a member of the 1982 National Championship Team. During the 1995-96 academic year, she was one of eight alumnae of Rutgers’ Douglass College featured in the college’s national fund-raising campaign. In the winter of 2002, Dailey was inducted into the prestigious New Jersey Sports Writers Association Hall of Fame alongside the likes of Bobby Valentine, Jorge Posada, Andre Tippitt and Carl Banks. She also was honored with the NJSWA “Distinguished Service to Basketball” award. In June of 2002, Dailey received the Clare Award from the Saint Franciscan Life Center which is given to a woman who exemplifies leadership, commitment to athletics and service to the community. IIn addition to her coaching duties, Dailey is in involved in a number of regional charitable e efforts as an honorary chair and as a noted sspeaker. In the summer of 2000, Dailey was a recipient of the 2000 Girl Scouts Women o of Merit Award, given to women who best e exemplify the qualities of a girl scout. She sserved four years as honorary chair of the C Connecticut chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis A Associations’ annual “Walk-a-thon”. In Octob ber 1997, she was named the Connecticut T Trails Counsel 1997 Woman of Distinction by th the Girl Scouts Association. Shea Ralph, a 2001 graduate of the University of Connecticut, a member of the 2000 NCAA National Championship Team and an All-American during her tenure in Storrs, returns to her alma mater for her sixth season as an assistant coach on the Connecticut staff. Ralph works primarily with the guards in her role at UConn after spending the previous five seasons as an assistant coach on the women's basketball staff at the University of Pittsburgh. She assists in all facets of recruiting and player development.

During her tenure at Pittsburgh, Ralph was instrumental in the program achieving unprecedented success as the Panthers posted at least 22 wins in each of her last three seasons and advanced to the NCAA Regional round for the first time in Pitt's history in 2008. Ralph's main focus was the development of Pittsburgh's guards. She was also heavily involved with the team's conditioning program, individual workouts and scouting. Ralph returns to UConn where she earned All-America status as a player and was recognized as the 2000 BIG EAST Player of the Year. Ralph was a captain of Connecticut's 2000 NCAA National Championship Team and finished her career with 1,678 points, which ranks as the eighth best total in UConn annals. She also graduated from UConn ranked among the program's top-10 career leaders in assists (456), steals (252) and field goal percentage (.579). In addition, Ralph was honored following the 2000 season as the recipient of the Honda Award, which is presented to the top female athlete in 12 collegiate sports, was named as the Sports Illustrated for Women Player of the Year and was selected as the most valuable player at the 2000 NCAA Final Four. Ralph, who graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2001 with a degree in exercise physiology, also spent a season (2003) as an assistant coach with the Springfield Spirit of the National Women's Basketball League. She was selected in the 2001 WNBA Draft by the Utah Starzz, but was unable to compete due to a knee injury. As a prep player, Ralph was chosen as the National High School Player of the Year while at Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville, N.C.

Marisa Moseley enters her fifth season as a coach on the University of Connecticut women’s basketball staff. Moseley will work primarily with the post players at Connecticut and spent the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons as an assistant coach on the women’s basketball staff at the University of Minnesota. She also assists in all facets of recruiting and player development. “Marisa is an outstanding young coach who will be a perfect fit here at UConn,” UConn head coach Geno Auriemma said. “She has outstanding people skills and her experiences at Minnesota have prepared her well for the challenges she will face at Connecticut. Marisa will be a terrific coach on the floor as well as an excellent recruiter. I’m thrilled to have her on our staff and our players will be as well.”

During her tenure at Minnesota, Moseley helped lead the Golden Gophers to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2008, 2009) while posting an overall record of 40-24 over her two seasons and had two post players under her tutelage earn All-Big Ten status. Also, while serving in her role as academic liaison, a total of 11 Minnesota women’s basketball players earned selection to the Big Ten Academic Honor Roll. Moseley spent the 2006-07 season at the University of Denver where she helped lead the Pioneers to a 20-11 record, their first 20-plus win campaign since 2000-01. Her responsibilities included assisting with the Pioneers’ recruiting and team travel, as well as monitoring the players’ academic progress. In addition to her coaching duties, Moseley was a member of Denver’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee. The committee was instrumental in the establishment of a new associate athletic director position overseeing diversity and community relations. Prior to joining the staff at Denver, Moseley worked a one-year stint as a production assistant at ESPN in Bristol, Conn., where she served as a creative contributor to shows such as SportsCenter, ESPNews and ABC NewsOne. A 2004 graduate of Boston University with a degree in sociology, Moseley completed her four-year (2000-04) playing career as the program’s third-leading shot blocker totaling 114 blocks. The defensive specialist earned All-America East Conference Third Team honors in 2002-03 after leading BU in both steals and blocked shots. Moseley also helped the Terriers to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2003 and was voted the defensive player of the year by her teammates. Moseley was a four-year member of the America East Honor Roll and served as a team captain in both her junior and senior seasons. Moseley has also served as a skills instructor at the basketball camps at Minnesota, BU, Connecticut, Holy Cross and Syracuse.
