MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS I want to thank you for your continued generosity and support of UConn Athletics. Your investment allows us to transform the lives of the more than 700 talented student-athletes who proudly represent our university on the fields of play, in the classroom and in the community. Over the years, we have enjoyed tremendous success which has allowed UConn to establish itself as one of the nation’s premier universities, both athletically and academically. This success we have come to know and love would not be possible without the commitment of each and every person who bleeds blue. As we look to our future, the need for private giving has never been greater. In the past decade alone, scholarship expenses have doubled. This year, we will provide our student-athletes with nearly $14 million in financial aid. In addition, UConn is committed to providing world-class facilities, the best academic support services and elite training and healthcare, which will allow us to continue attracting exceptional student-athletes. There has never been a better time to be involved with UConn Athletics. Your support will not only help provide the necessary resources to be the best, but it will further send a strong statement to the rest of the country that Husky Nation is truly the team behind the teams! We hope we can count on you to make an investment in the future of UConn Athletics. Go Huskies!

COST OF EXCELLENCE The Division of Athletics is responsible for generating revenue to support a current budget of $72 million. Of that, $14 million is returned to the University in the form of scholarships for our student-athletes. As student-athlete scholarship costs and the overall operating expenses required to maintain UConn Athletics’ tradition of excellence continue to increase, our need for private support is more important now than ever. In order to continue our success, we need to provide our student-athletes with the necessary resources to be champions on and off the fields of play. Your investment in UConn Athletics will help transform the lives of more than 700 student-athletes both athletically and academically while playing a vital role in contributing to the future championships and successes of UConn Athletics.

I love the family atmosphere here at UConn. Everybody is very welcoming, from my fellow studentathletes, to the fans and to our donors. I really appreciate everything our donors do. It was really nice having a chance to meet a few of them during last fall’s scholarship dinner. ‘‘

Being a student-athlete at UConn is like being a part of a big family. The academic support I receive here is incredible. Right now I am majoring in Horticulture and Architectural Design and I love it. Once I graduate I want to work in either pharmaceuticals or do architectural planning for the government. Every gift to support UConn Athletics helps us athletically and academically and motivates us to be better people and better athletes.

’’

COST OF ATTENDANCE Starting in the 2015-16 academic year, UConn will offer student-athletes enhanced scholarships aimed at covering the full cost of attending college beyond the cost of tuition, fees, books and room and board. These stipends would cover expenses that meet the federal definition of “cost of attendance” such as academic-related supplies, transportation and other similar items. UConn student-athletes on full athletic scholarships will receive full-cost-of-attendance scholarships. The stipend for each student-athlete will range from $3,000 to $4,000 and is estimated to cost the Division of Athletics an additional $1 million to $1.5 million dollars annually. Although UConn is not required to provide full-cost-of-attendance scholarships, the Division of Athletics is committed to give our student-athletes everything that is permissible for them to achieve success academically and athletically.

• Academic Support • Recruiting Budgets • New Equipment • Health & Wellness • Travel Budgets • Sports Performance/ Strength & Conditioning • State-of-the-art Technology • Programmatic Support

PRIORITY POINT SYSTEM UConn Athletics uses the priority point system in an effort to fairly allocate seats to current donors. The system is designed to acknowledge both consistent annual giving (through retention of permanent points) and current year giving (through bonus points). Points and/or season tickets may not be transferred from one person to another or from one account to another. Also, the University does not transfer points or tickets by virtue of wills. In the event of the death of an account holder or season ticket holder, the surviving spouse (the definition of spouse is consistent with applicable federal law) retains the points, providing that the surviving spouse is on the account at the time of death. Annual pledges/donations earn three types of priority points: permanent points, bonus points (for non-football/basketball courtside seat donations), and membership points. 1 permanent point is earned for every $100 pledged/contributed to UConn Athletics. Permanent points are also awarded for football and basketball courtside seat donations. Permanent points accrue and are cumulative. 1 bonus point is earned for every $100 pledged/contributed to UConn Athletics. Bonus points are temporary points for the pledge year only (not cumulative). Bonus points are not awarded for football or basketball courtside seat donations. At the end of each pledge year (March 31), bonus points are removed from the donor account. 2 membership points are earned each pledge year (with a minimum annual donation of $100). Membership points accrue and are cumulative.

14 The UConn Club

EXAMPLE A new member making a $5,000 pledge/donation in a pledge year, based on the priority point calculation formula: $5,000 Pledge/Donation Yields: • 50 permanent points • 50 bonus points (not for football/basketball courtside seat donations) • 2 membership points • 102 total priority points earned for the pledge year; and • 52 points will carry forward into the new pledge year.

PRIORITY SEATING SEASON TICKETS To receive 2015-16 priority seating privileges, a commitment in support of UConn Athletics must be made according to priority deadlines — April 30 for football and June 30 — for basketball. Seating for all ticketed sports is allocated by current membership status and the use of the priority point system. Tickets can be purchased online at www.UConnTickets.com or by calling the UConn Athletic Ticket Office at (860) 486-2724 or toll free (877)-AT-UCONN / (877) 288-2666.

POST SEASON TICKETS The NCAA/conference provides a limited number of tickets to each participating institution for postseason events. Specific seat locations are determined by the NCAA/ conference. UConn endeavors to accommodate as many donors as possible based on the number of tickets we receive from the NCAA/conference. Postseason ticket allocations to current members are by donor category, then by points within that category. You may order at any time during the reservation period for your donor category based on the guidelines below. Tickets will be distributed based on availability.

BASKETBALL BASKETBALL SEASON TICKETS You may order as many season tickets as desired. Assignment of seat locations takes place annually. However, the number of seats guaranteed together will be based on current donor level. Seating allocations will be determined by priority points.

BASKETBALL SEATING GUIDELINES It is difficult to predetermine seat location, as it depends on the demand for season tickets and the desirability of sections. Please review the point total seating charts for the 2014-15 basketball season listed on pages 16-19. These are the best indicators of the number of priority points that may be necessary for the 2015-16 season for current donors. Be reminded that while these numbers were accurate for the 2014-15 season, it is impossible to predict the projected point totals for specific seat locations. These are just estimated guidelines. Season ticket holders may make special seating requests in writing on the appropriate ticket application; please detail your request and list preferences. We carefully review each request in the context of the priority point system; however, we cannot guarantee the ability to accommodate every request.

TRANSFORMING LIVES In early 2014, the University of Connecticut embarked on updating its campus master plan to drive transformative change. The new Campus Master Plan is the vehicle that will drive this transformative change with an emphasis on excellence, community, inspiration and innovation. Currently, major facilities for nearly every program exist on-site including track and field, lacrosse, soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, hockey and swimming and diving. Many of UConn’s athletics programs are in need of upgrades to facilities, either to address deferred maintenance in existing buildings, expand event seating capacity or provide more desirable space to attract top student-athletes to the University. Embracing this challenge, the Campus Master plan has looked at every facility and every sport and identified the greatest priorities. The plan will impact all of our student-athletes and elevate UConn Athletics to a new level of excellence. In addition to the Campus Master Plan, the UConn Foundation Board of Directors has endorsed a five-year, $150 million fundraising initiative that will double the amount of financial support that the Foundation raises for the benefit of the UConn student body. Your investment in capital projects and scholarships will transform every aspect of academic and athletic life and will have a far-reaching and long lasting impact as well as provide a framework for future growth on UConn’s continued path to excellence. We have a great championship past; we are champions today, and are committed to be champions in the future.

‘‘

I feel very blessed to say I am a student-athlete here at UConn. Since arriving on campus, I have made friendships that will last a lifetime and I’ve received tremendous guidance from my coaches and our amazing academic support team. Words cannot truly describe how thankful I am to be a Husky. Being a student-athlete at UConn has made my dreams to come true.

ENDOWMENTS Establishing an endowment is a great way to make a lasting impact on UConn Athletics. An endowed gift supplies the UConn Division of Athletics with a long-term source of income that provides the resources necessary to attract and retain the nation’s top student-athletes and coaches. For more information on establishing or contributing to an endowed fund, please contact the UConn Athletic Development Office at (860) 486-3863 or by email at UConnClub@foundation.uconn.edu.

ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS The Division of Athletics is committed to continuing the tradition of academic excellence at UConn by providing the resources, support and positive environment our studentathletes need to achieve academic success. Endowed scholarships create a lasting legacy while providing current student-athletes with the tools to be successful both in the classroom and on the fields of play. For UConn’s coaches, endowed scholarships allow them to continue recruiting talented student-athletes from around the world. UConn’s Division of Athletics currently has more than 140 named endowed scholarships. The minimum financial commitment needed to establish an endowed athletics scholarship at UConn is $125,000. Endowed scholarships provide an opportunity for donors to establish a legacy with UConn Athletics.

CAPITAL PROJECTS UConn’s success is interwoven with the success of the Division of Athletics. There is no doubt that our past success has driven national exposure for UConn and transformed Husky Pride. First class facilities are important to our continued success as they are necessary to continue to attract and retain quality studentathletes and exceptional coaches. WERTH FAMILY UCONN BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS CENTER In fall 2014, our brand-new Werth Family UConn Basketball Champions Center opened its doors. This 78,000-square-foot facility boasts practice gyms, locker rooms, and coaches offices, as well as study areas, video rooms, and sports medicine and strength training spaces for our men’s and women’s basketball teams. You still have the ability to play a critical role in supporting UConn Basketball, as there is a need for additional funding to finish this project. The Werth Family UConn Basketball Champions Center is the first building at UConn to be financed entirely by private donations and currently, $33.5 million dollars has been committed towards the $40 million dollar goal. By supporting the Werth Family UConn Basketball Champions Center you will be part of two programs which are synonymous with excellence. Upon entering the Werth Family UConn Basketball Champions Center, the lobby will feature a display of NCAA trophies representing the four men’s championships and the nine women’s titles. On each side of the main lobby leading to the women’s and men’s practice areas, visitors are greeted by floor-to-ceiling images of two iconic Huskies representing each program – Maya Moore and Ray Allen.

‘‘

UConn is a very special place,” says Peter Werth. “The young people who go to UConn come out better than they went in, not only in terms of education but also in attitude and life skills. UConn does a great job and my family is pleased to be able to support it.

NAYDEN CHALLENGE

‘‘

We are proud UConn grads and this is our way to share and give back, which we both believe in,” says Denis Nayden. “Our donation to the basketball center is an investment in a great program. Our challenge grant is meant to encourage participation by former players who fully understand the spirit of competition.

’’

Denis ’76, ’77 MBA and Britta ’76 Nayden, alumni and longstanding donors to the University of Connecticut have committed $2 million towards the Werth Family UConn Basketball Champions Center. As part of their gift, they put forth a challenge match of $1 million to all former men’s and women’s basketball players, managers and coaches as a way to inspire them to come together to support this project. As of February 2015, more than $200,000 has been committed towards the overall goal of $1 million.

‘‘

The UConn Basketball Champions Center is very impressive! From the time you first walk in the doors, it feels like UConn in here. This place will be a valuable resource for our current and future generations of players and coaches. During my time as a student-athlete here, UConn gave me so much. I learned many valuable lessons about life that have helped me both on and off the floor. While I decided to make a gift to support the Champions Center, there is no way I can truly pay back UConn for everything this university has done for me.

THE RIZZA FAMILY SOCCER COMPLEX Former UConn men’s soccer student-athlete Tony Rizza ’87 has committed a total of $8 million to transform the soccer complex and build a brand-new state-of-the-art soccer stadium on the Storrs campus. As part of his commitment, $5 million is a challenge match to the entire UConn community to transform Morrone Stadium. UConn student-athletes rise to the challenge every day, both on the field and in the classroom. Help us rise to the challenge by creating a stadium that matches the success of the UConn soccer program. As of February 2015, more than $300,000 has been committed towards the $5 million challenge goal. GOAL

‘‘

This gift is my way of recognizing coaches, faculty, and campus staff who helped me while I was at UConn and it’s a small way of saying thank you. My experience at UConn and, more specifically, with the men’s soccer program provided me with important life skills that have helped me succeed in my career. Tony Rizza (BUS ’87)

The new facility will be built on the site of the current Joseph J. Morrone Stadium and will bear the same name. The future soccer complex, which will include a new stadium as well as the existing training grounds and practice field adjacent to the stadium, will be named the Rizza Family Soccer Complex in recognition of this transformative gift. The Husky men’s and women’s soccer teams are perennial powerhouses in Division 1 soccer, and the teams draw large crowds to Morrone Stadium. The Husky men’s soccer team has won three national championships and the UConn women’s soccer team has appeared in the NCAA tournament in 29 of the past 33 years, with trips to two national championship games and seven national semifinals.

TAX INFORMATION/YOUR TAX DEDUCTIBLE CONTRIBUTION - The University of Connecticut Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. To maximize the tax deductible portion of your gift, you may decline to receive any benefits when you make your gift to UConn. If you choose to accept your benefits, we are required to inform you that your charitable contribution will be reduced by the value of those benefits. Please consult your tax advisor for further information. SEASON TICKETS & SEAT DONATIONS - Donors to UConn Athletics, are entitled to receive preferred seating locations for season tickets purchased for football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s ice hockey, men’s basketball, or women’s basketball. The cost of tickets is not tax deductible. Patrons making a seat donation will receive a receipt acknowledging the donation. Please consult your tax advisor. OTHER BENEFITS - The Internal Revenue Code also addresses benefits (other than priority seating) that a donor may receive as a result of the contribution. A donor may only deduct the amount of a contribution that is more than the value of all benefits received. Car decals, newsletters, and other token items do not reduce the amount eligible for deduction for tax purposes; however, other goods or services a donor receives in consideration for donations, such as those described on pages 10-11, can further reduce deductibility of a gift. Please consult your tax advisor. WAIVER OF POINTS AND BENEFITS  In order to deduct 100% of a contribution to UConn Athletics, the donor must submit in writing a waiver of points and benefits at the time of making a pledge and/or contribution. In requesting a waiver of points and benefits, the donor further understands that he or she forfeits priority points and their application as it relates to ticket assignment and allocation; once points and benefits are forfeited, they cannot be credited retroactively to a donor’s account. Only through a waiver of points and benefits is a contribution eligible for 100% tax deduction. SUBSTANTIATION REQUIREMENTS  As required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the UConn Foundation, Inc. will furnish donors with receipts for contributions.
