THE GAME: The nationally-ranked (#21/21) University of Connecticut men’s basketball team meets its highest-ranked opponent of the season when it takes on #5/5 Louisville for the inaugural championship of the American Athletic Conference on Saturday, March 15, at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn. The game will begin at 6 p.m. (EDT) and will be televised by ESPN. UConn (26-7), the fourth seed in the AAC tourney, has won nine of its last 11 games and is coming off a 58-56 win over top-seeded (#13/12) Cincinnati in the semifinals. UConn is led by Shabazz Napier, who tops the team in scoring (17.5), rebounding (6.0), assists (5.0) and steals (1.8). DeAndre Daniels (12.4) and Ryan Boatright (12.0) also average double figures. Louisville (28-5), the No. 2 seed, topped Houston, 94-65, in Thursday’s semifinal. Russ Smith (18.2) leads the Cardinals in scoring. HUSKY NOTABLES Kevin Ollie is in his second season as the 18th head coach of the UConn men’s basketball program after posting a 20-10 record last year. He is the only head coach in UConn history to post a 20-victory season in his first year and reach 45 wins in his first two years.
Tonight, UConn is playing its 260th game on ESPN/ESPN2 since 1986-87, the start of the Jim Calhoun era. The Huskies have a record of 162-97 (.625) in those games. UConn is 11-4 on ESPN/ESPN2 this season.
