VS. RANKED OPPONENTS: Using the AP Top 25 as the standard, Florida was the ninth nationally-ranked team that UConn faced in its last 11 games. The Huskies are 7-2 in those games. Overall this season, the Huskies are 10-4 vs. ranked opponents. Since 1989-90, UConn is 127-96 (.570) against ranked opponents and since the first NCAA championship season of 1998-99, the Huskies are 94-61 (.606) against ranked opponents. In the last 10 years, plus this year, UConn is 65-44 (.596) against ranked opponents. TOUGH ON CHAMPS: During the 201314 season, UConn has defeated either the regular-season of conference champions from the American Athletic Conference (Cincinnati), Big Ten (Michigan State), Big 12 (Iowa State), SEC (Florida, twice), Big
East (Villanova), Atlantic-10 (Saint Joseph’s), Ivy league (Harvard), and Patriot League (Boston University). GRAND MASTERS: With his first point against Memphis on Feb. 15, in the 79th game of his college career, junior Ryan Boatright became the 48th member of UConn’s 1,000point club. Boatright joins senior Shabazz Napier as 1,000-point scorers on the same team. The last time the Huskies had more than one 1,000-point scorer on the same team was in 2008-09, when that UConn team had four -- Jeff Adrien, A.J. Price, Jerome Dyson, and Hasheem Thabeet. 20 OFF THE BENCH: With 20 points against UCF on January 11, freshman Amida Brimah became the first UConn player under Coach Kevin Ollie to come off the bench and score 20 points. The last UConn player to accomplish that feat was Ryan Boatright, who came off the bench to score 23 against Arkansas on December 3, 2011, under former Coach Jim Calhoun. Boatright was the 14th player to come off the bench in Calhoun’s 26 seasons at UConn to reach the 20-point mark in a game. The other players in this group were Rashad Anderson (11 times), Brian Fair (9 times) , Ben Gordon (5 times), Ray Allen (4 times), Johnnie Selvie (4 times), Phil Gamble (3 times), Doug Wiggins (3 times), Kemba Walker (2 times), Jamal Coombs-McDaniel (2 times), John Gwynn (2 times), Tony Robertson (1 time), Charlie Villanueva (1 time) and Rashamel Jones (1 time). RECORD WATCH: Through 39 games, the Huskies are close to a few UConn season records. The record for highest 3-point shooting percentage is 40.8 percent in 1995-96. Ollie was a four-year starting point guard and a two-time captain. He played in 124 games for the Huskies, averaging 6.7 points and 5.0 assists. A third team All-Big East pick, his 619 assist total still ranks third on UConn’s all-time list. He graduated in 1995 with a Communications degree. But Ollie was far more concerned with team statistics than individual ones. During his four-year UConn career, the Huskies had a record of 92-33, 51-21 in the Big East Conference and made three NCAA Tournament appearances. During Ollie’s last two seasons, when he served as a team captain, UConn’s record was 57-10 overall and a dazzling 32-4 in the Big East, capturing two Big East regular-season championships, and reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, respectively. Yet it was after his UConn career that Ollie was most impressive, displaying unmatched perseverance, intestinal fortitude, and a never-say- die attitude as he fought his way through years in the Continental Basketball Association and the U.S. Basketball League to get his chance in the NBA. Once there, Ollie would simply not

“Kevin Ollie, he was a game-changer for us. He might not say it, but I think he changed the whole culture in Oklahoma City ... just his mind set, professionalism, every single day. And we all watched that, and we all wanted to be like that. It rubbed off on Russell (Westbrook), myself, Jeff Green, James Harden. And then everybody who comes through now, it’s the standard that you’ve got to live up to as a Thunder player. And that started with Kevin Ollie.” ~ KEVIN DURANT

give up his dream, signing a series of 10-day and one-year contracts, dealing with trades and roster cuts. Yet Ollie would not be deterred, earning a reputation throughout the league as an outstanding teammate, with strong moral fiber, impeccable character, and a vast knowledge of the game. His perseverance finally paid off with a multi-year contract from the Cleveland Cavaliers, who also wanted Ollie to mentor a young LeBron James about acting as a professional. Oklahoma City brought Ollie in to do the same for Kevin Durant. During a 13-year NBA career, Ollie played for 11 different franchises in 12 cities and learned from 15 different NBA coaches. Ollie couldn’t have had a more successful debut season to his coaching career than in 2010-11, as he helped guard Kemba Walker produce one of the most spectacular individual seasons in UConn history in leading the Huskies to the program’s third national championship. The 2011-12 season culminated in another NCAA appearance and another UConn guard, Jeremy Lamb, drafted as an NBA lottery
