The UConn men’s basketball team begins the countdown of the final 10 games of the 2015-16 regular season with a trip to Memphis for an American Athletic Conference game against the Memphis Tigers at the FedExForum. The game will tip off at 9 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2. The Huskies (15-6 overall, 5-3 American), winners of four of their last five, are coming off a 67-41 road win Sunday at UCF. They are led by four double-figure scorers -- forward Shonn Miller (13.3), guard Rodney Purvis (13.2), guard Sterling Gibbs (13.0), and swingman Daniel Hamilton (11.6). Hamilton is also the team leader in rebounding (8.5) and assists (4.8), while center Amida Brimah sets the pace in blocked shots (2.9). Memphis (13-8, 4-4) lost an 80-68 road decision at SMU on Saturday. The Tigers are led in scoring by forwards Shaq Goodwin (15.1) and Dedric Lawson (14.4). Lawson is also the top rebounder (9.0), while guard Ricky Tarrant Jr. leads in assists (3.6). UConn topped Memphis, 81-78, on Jan. 9 at Gampel Pavilion. HUSKY BITES Kevin Ollie is in his fourth season as the 18th head coach of the UConn men’s basketball
program, with a career record of 87-39. He reached 50 victories in just two years and he is already sixth on the all-time list of UConn coaching victories. His .690 winning percentage ranks fourth among UConn coaches who have coached more than 20 games and he and Jim Calhoun are the only UConn coaches to win the NCAA championship.
UConn is playing its 284th game on ESPN/ESPN2 since 1986-87, the start of the Jim
Calhoun era. The Huskies have a record of 169-114 (.597) in those games. Tonight’s game is the seventh of 12 regular-season UConn games on ESPN/ESPN2 this season. The Huskies are 2-4 on ESPN/ESPN2 so far this season.
UP NEXT: UConn is back at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs for the first time in a month, playing
host to East Carolina in an AAC game on Sunday, February 7. The game is scheduled to tip off at noon and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
