GAME STORYLINES

w Connecticut hits the road for the first time this season as it visits Vanderbilt. UConn is 2-2 all-time vs. the SEC with wins against Vandy and South Carolina and losses to Vandy and Kentucky. w Cheshire native Paul Pasqualoni made a

successful debut as the Huskeis head coach against Fordham -- becoming the first UConn head coach since 1923 to win his debut game. He has won more BIG EAST league games than any other head coach and is tied for the overall game record.

THE COACHES CONNECTICUT HEAD COACH PAUL PASQUALONI UConn head coach Paul Pasqualoni made his Husky head coaching debut a successful one last Saturday as the Huskies topped Fordham of the FCS. The Cheshire, Conn., native was named the 28th head football coach in UConn history on January 14, 2011. Pasqualoni has had a highly-successful career on all levels of football -- professional, college and high school. He was the head coach at Western Connecticut from 1982-86 and led the team to the NCAA Division II playoffs in 1985. He had an extremely successful tenure as the head coach at Syracuse from 1991-2004. Pasqualoni led the Orange to 107 wins, four BIG EAST titles and a 6-3 postseason record. Among his bowl appearances at Syracuse were two Fiesta Bowls (1992 and ‘97) and an Orange Bowl (‘98). Pasqualoni is the all-time winningest coach in BIG EAST Conference league wins with 62 and is tied for first in overall wins with 108 with Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech. He is just one of two league coaches in history to win four BIG EAST Championships. His overall college coaching record stands at 14276-1 (34-17 at WCSU, 107-59-1 at Syracuse and 1-0 at UConn). For the previous five seasons, Pasqualoni had served on NFL staffs -- with Dallas in 2005-07 and ‘10 and with Miami in 2008-09. His first coaching job was an assistant coach at Cheshire HS from 1972-75. He is a 1972 Penn State graduate. VANDERBILT HEAD COACH JAMES FRANKLIN James Franklin is in his first season as the head coach at Vanderbilt and won his collegiate head coaching debut on Saturday night vs. Elon. Franklin was the assistant head coach and offensive coordaintor at Maryland from 2008-10. He also coached at Maryland at WR coach from 2000-04. His other assistant coaching stops included Kansas State (2006-07) and the Green Bay Packers in 2005. He is a 1995 gradute of East Stroudburg State and was a four year starter at QB for the school.

RADIO & TV COVERAGE TELEVISION COVERAGE Saturday’s game will be televised by SNY in the Connecticut and Northeast region. Matt Stewart is on play-by-play while Chris Doering is on color and Suzette Taylor is on the sidlines. Todd Minhinnett is the producer and Bob Whitelaw directs. The game will also be seen in Atlanta on Comcast Sports South and in Tampa on the Brighthouse Network. Among other places it will been seen are Charlotte, N.C. (Time Warner), Cincinnati (Cin. Bell) and New Orleans (Cox). The game will also be replayed on SNY in a condensed mode on the “Husky Power Hour” on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 a.m. and 9 a.m. The game will be replayed in its entirity on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 1:30 p.m. RADIO COVERAGE For the 20th consecutive season, WTIC 1080-AM in Hartford serves as the flagship station for the UConn Radio Network. WTIC is the state’s only 50,000 watt signal and can be heard in 23 states and parts of Canada. Veteran UConn announcers Joe D’Ambrosio (play-by-play) and Wayne Norman (color commentary) return to call the action with Jeff Dooley on the sidelines for the Vanderbilt game and E.B. Davis on production.
