GAME STORYLINES

w Connecticut hits the road for the first time this season as it visits Vanderbilt.

UConn is 2-2 all-time vs. the SEC with wins against Vandy and South Carolina and losses to Vandy and Kentucky. w Cheshire native Paul Pasqualoni made a

THE COACHES CONNECTICUT HEAD COACH PAUL PASQUALONI UConn head coach Paul Pasqualoni made his Husky head coaching debut a successful one last Saturday as the Huskies topped Fordham of the FCS. The Cheshire, Conn., native was named the 28th head football coach in UConn history on January 14, 2011.

Pasqualoni has had a highly-successful career on all levels of football -- professional, college and high school. He was the head coach at Western Connecticut from 1982-86 and led the team to the NCAA Division II playoffs in 1985.

He had an extremely successful tenure as the head coach at Syracuse from 1991-2004. Pasqualoni led the Orange to 107 wins, four BIG EAST titles and a 6-3 postseason record. Among his bowl appearances at Syracuse were two Fiesta Bowls (1992 and ‘97) and an Orange Bowl (‘98).

Pasqualoni is the all-time winningest coach in BIG EAST Conference league wins with 62 and is tied for first in overall wins with 108 with Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech. He is just one of two league coaches in history to win four BIG EAST Championships. His overall college coaching record stands at 14276-1 (34-17 at WCSU, 107-59-1 at Syracuse and 1-0 at UConn).

For the previous five seasons, Pasqualoni had served on NFL staffs -- with Dallas in 2005-07 and ‘10 and with Miami in 2008-09.

His first coaching job was an assistant coach at Cheshire HS from 1972-75. He is a 1972 Penn State graduate.

VANDERBILT HEAD COACH JAMES FRANKLIN James Franklin is in his first season as the head coach at Vanderbilt and won his collegiate head coaching debut on Saturday night vs. Elon. Franklin was the assistant head coach and offensive coordaintor at Maryland from 2008-10. He also coached at Maryland at WR coach from 2000-04. His other assistant coaching stops included Kansas State (2006-07) and the Green Bay Packers in 2005.

He is a 1995 gradute of East Stroudburg State and was a four year starter at QB for the school.

RADIO & TV COVERAGE TELEVISION COVERAGE Saturday’s game will be televised by SNY in the Connecticut and Northeast region. Matt Stewart is on play-by-play while Chris Doering is on color and Suzette Taylor is on the sidlines. Todd Minhinnett is the producer and Bob Whitelaw directs.

The game will also be seen in Atlanta on Comcast Sports South and in Tampa on the Brighthouse Network. Among other places it will been seen are Charlotte, N.C. (Time Warner), Cincinnati (Cin. Bell) and New Orleans (Cox).

The game will also be replayed on SNY in a condensed mode on the “Husky Power Hour” on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 a.m. and 9 a.m. The game will be replayed in its entirity on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 1:30 p.m.

RADIO COVERAGE For the 20th consecutive season, WTIC 1080-AM in Hartford serves as the flagship station for the UConn Radio Network. WTIC is the state’s only 50,000 watt signal and can be heard in 23 states and parts of Canada.

Veteran UConn announcers Joe D’Ambrosio (play-by-play) and Wayne Norman (color commentary) return to call the action with Jeff Dooley on the sidelines for the Vanderbilt game and E.B. Davis on production.

The UConn pregame show begins 90 minutes prior to kickoff, while at home games, the UConn Tailgate Show will air two and a half hours prior to the game with Kevin Nathan and Bob Joyce. UConn football on home dates gets going early with “Breakfast At The Rent” with Ray Dunaway and Scott Gray beginning at 6:00 a.m. for noon games.

The UConn Football Radio Network also includes WILI 1400-AM in Willimantic and WSUB AM-FM in New London. UConn football games are also broadcast over the internet at WTIC.com.

UCONN AND SNY SNY, the television home of the New York Mets, Jets and the BIG EAST Conference, in conjunction with the University of Connecticut is in its second-year of a multi-year partnership that makes SNY "the official television home of the UConn Huskies football and men's basketball programs".

SNY annually features 300 hours of UConn programming - including 120 hours of Huskies game coverage. As the college basketball season tips off, SNY's all-access pass features at least 13 UConn men's basketball contests and a minimum of one women's basketball contest each season.

SERIES NOTES HUSKIES VS. VANDERBILT ALL-TIME Saturday’s game will be the third meeting between UConn and Vanderbilt as each team has won a game. The first game in the series was on Oct. 26, 2002, as Vanderbilt posted a 28-24 win in Nashville. The game served as a catalyst for the Husky program as the Huskies won their final four games of the season, including a win at Iowa State. Following that Vanderbilt game, which put the Huskies at 2-6 for the season, UConn won 25 of its next 33 games, including the program’s first bowl game -- the 2004 Motor City Bowl.

Last season, the Huskies topped Vanderbilt by a 40-21 score on Oct 2, 2010 at Rentschler Field. The game was tied 21-21 at halftime, but the Huskies scored 19 unanswered points in the second half for the win. UConn’s Jordan Todman ran for 190 yards and two TDs in the game. Blidi-Wreh Wilson had a 44-yard INT return for a TD in the fourth quarter to make it 3821 Huskies to seal the win.

HUSKIES VS. SEC ALL-TIME Connecticut has an overall record of 2-2 against teams from the Southeastern Conference.

The Huskies lost at Kentucky by a 45-14 score in Randy Edsall’s second game at UConn and then the Vanderbilt game in 2002. UConn’s first SEC win came on Jan. 2, 2009, with a 20-7 win over South Carolina in the Papajohns.com Bowl in Birmingham -- home of the SEC Conference office. The second SEC win came vs. Vanderbilt last year.

UConn has scheduled a home and home series with Tennessee as the Volunteers come to Rentschler Field on September 26, 2015 with a return trip to Knoxville on September 3, 2016.

UCONN AND VANDERBILT CONNECTIONS Paul Pasqualoni’s first career game at Syracuse came with a 37-10 win vs.

Vanderbilt at the Carrier Dome on Sept. 7, 1991…There are no players on the UConn roster from the state of Tennessee and no players from Connecticut on the Vandy roster…Commodore defensive coordinator Bob Shoop faced UConn as an assistant at BC (2002), as defensive coordinator at Yale (1994-96), as DB coach at Northeastern (1992) and as a GA at Yale (1989)…As a player at Yale, Shoop faced the Huskies from 1984-87…VU assistant Chris Beatty faced the Huskies the last three years as an assistant at West Virginia as did assistant Herb Hand, while at West Virginia in 2004-06…Defensive line coach Sean Spencer is a Hartford native and coached instate at Trinity (1998-2000) and Wesleyan (1995-96)…UConn defensive coordinator Don Brown coached at Maryland from 2009-2010 and was on the Terp staff with Vandy head coach James Franklin, OC John Donovan and TE coach Charles Bankins.

RENTSCHLER GAMEDAY At UConn home games, FanFest takes place starting four hours before kickoff up until 30 minutes before the game. It takes place between Gates A and B outside the stadium gates...The offerings change each game, but activities typically include inflatable games for children, live bands, promotional vehicles and UConn student-athletes from various teams signing autographs....The “Husky Walk” is a chance for fans to welcome the UConn team as they get off the team buses and head to the stadium. That takes place approximately two hours and 15 minutes before kickoff between Gates A and B...Once again this season at the end of home games, the UConn team will sing the “UConn Husky” fight song in front of the student section at Rentschler Field.

SQUAD NOTES HUSKIES HAVE BEEN BOWL ELIGIBLE The 2010 UConn football team won the BIG EAST Championship and advanced to play in the school’s first-ever BCS game -- the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. UConn made the bowl eligible mark for the sixth time in the past eight seasons -- and the fourth consecutive.

UConn’s trip and victory over South Carolina in the 2010 Papajohns.com Bowl marked the fourth time that the Huskies went bowling and the third consecutive.

The Huskies also went to the International Bowl in 2009 and defeated Buffalo.

In 2007, UConn was 9-3 in the regular season and went on to the Meineke Car Care Bowl. In 2004, the Huskies went 7-4 in the regular season and won the Motor City Bowl. In 2003, UConn was 9-3, but did not go to a bowl because of its independent status.

UCONN IN SEASON OPENERS, ROAD OPENERS UConn is 8-2 in season openers since making the jump to then-Division I-A in 2002. UConn has won each of its six season openers at Rentschler Field. Overall, UConn is 51-59-2 in season openers dating back to 1896.

In terms of road openers, UConn has won four of its past five road openers -the exception being last year’s loss at Michigan to open the season. UConn is 54 in road openers since joining the FBS ranks. UConn road opening wins in that time frame are: 2009 at Ohio, 2008 at Temple, 2007 at Duke, 2006 at Indiana and 2003 at Army.

BIG EAST AND UCONN UConn begins 2011 BIG EAST Conference play on Oct. 8 at West Virginia and 2011 marks the eighth year of football league membership dating back to 2004.

UConn was one of seven charter members of the BIG EAST Conference when the league was founded in 1979 and UConn and Syracuse are the only two founding schools that are currently playing football in the league.

RANKED TEAMS The January 1, 2011 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl game vs. Oklahoma marked the 17th time in school history that the Huskies faced a team ranked in the Associated Press poll at the time of the game. UCONN FOOTBALL A LEADER IN ACADEMICS The UConn football program continues to be a leader in the BIG EAST Conference in terms of academic performance by its student-athletes.

UConn was the top team in the NCAA’s Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of both October 2008 and ’09 among league schools. The Huskies latest GSR, released in October 2010, UConn was third in the BIG EAST and within four points of the second place team.

>> 2011 UConn football The UConn football program also had the highest NCAA GSR for African-American student-athletes among all state universities that participated in a bowl game in 2008. In five of the past seven years, including 2007, ‘08 and ‘09, UConn was recognized by the American Football Coaches Association for its high graduation rate.

UConn’s overall GSR in 2009 was the third-highest of the more than 50 state universities that participated in a bowl game.

In 2011, the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate (APR) for the UConn football team was an impressive 953 over a four-year cycle, with a one-year mark of 959 for the 2009-10 academic year.

HUSKIES VS. THE BIG EAST UConn owns an all-time mark of 22-26 in BIG EAST Conference games since joining the league for football in 2004. The Huskies posted their best conference record with a 5-2 mark in 2007 and ‘10.

UConn’s current five-game BIG EAST Conference games winning streak is the longest in school history.

HUSKIES ON THE ROAD SINCE 2002 The Huskies have put together a 21-29 road record since 2002.

In non-conference road affairs over that same span, Connecticut has posted a mark of 16-11 and has won eight of its last 12 such games, including 2009 wins over Ohio, Baylor and Notre Dame and 2011 losses to Michigan and Temple.

HUSKIES VS. NON-CONFERENCE FOES SINCE 2002 Connecticut boasts a 41-18 record against non-conference opponents in the regular season since making the move to the FBS in 2002.

The Huskies have won 16 of their last 21 regular season non-league games overall with the only blemishes coming via a one-point loss at Virginia (17-16) in 2007, losses to North Carolina in 2008 and ‘09 and Michigan and Temple in ‘10.

UConn has posted the following records in non-conference regular season games: 6-6 (2002), 9-3 (2003), 4-1 (2004), 3-1 (2005), 3-2 (2006), 4-1 (2007), 4-1 (2008), 4-1 (2009), 3-2 (2010) and 1-0 (2011).

HUSKIES IN THE NFL As the NFL continues its preseason, there were a total of 14 Huskies in NFL camps before final cuts were made. UConn had 11 former players that were on NFL rosters in 2009 (a school high) and nine former Huskies are currently on NFL rosters.

The 2009 NFL Draft made history for the Huskies as four UConn players were selected in the first 63 selections. UConn is the only BIG EAST school to have four players picked that early since the league was reorganized in 2005. UConn had two players selected in the 2010 NFL Draft and four more in ‘11.

The number of former UConn players in NFL camps is now seven. The are: * Offensive tackle William Beatty of the New York Giants, who is entering his third year and has six starts over the past two seasons for the Giants. * Running back Donald Brown, who is entering his third year with the Indianapolis Colts. He was UConn’s first All-American in the BCS era and the Huskies’ first NFL First Round Draft Pick. He’s with the Indianapolis Colts and played in the Super Bowl his rookie year. * Defensive back Tyvon Branch, who is entering his fourth year with the Oakland Raiders. He has started all 16 games for the Raiders over the past two years. * Wide receiver Marcus Easley with the Buffalo Bills, who missed all of last season (rookie) with an injury.

FB, Anthony Sherman, a fifth round pick of the Cardinals TB, Jordan Todman, a sixth round pick of the Chargers LB, Scott Lutrus, who signed a free agent contract with the Jaguars and was released and was then signed by the Rams on the practice squad HUSKIES IN THE CFL In addition, there are four former UConn players in the Canadian Football League this year.

Martin Bedard (Montreal Alouettes) is entering his third year and has been part of two Grey Cup championship teams.

Larry Taylor is in is fourth year in the league and is now with Calgary after spending the first three with Montreal. He was the 2009 CFL Special Teams Player of the Year.

Julius Williams, who played at UConn through 2008, is in his first year with the Edmonton Eskimos.

Jordan Younger is in his eighth season in the league -- all with Toronto.

Taylor and Bedard and the Montreal team won Grey Cup championship game last December by a 21-18 score against Edmonton.

BALL CONTROL IS THE KEY A telling sign of UConn’s strong performance on both sides of the ball during its tenure as a FBS program has been its ability to both record and prevent long drives.

Since the start of the 2002 season, UConn’s offense has strung together 77 scoring drives of at least 80 yards while the Husky defense has surrendered just 55 such marches -- including two by Michigan and Oklahoma and one by Buffalo and Cincinnati last year. UConn had two 80-yard scoring drives vs.

Fordham on Saturday.

UConn also holds a 19-6 advantage over its opponents in the number of 90-yard and over drives since becoming a I-A program.

Michigan had a 96-yarder last year.

HUSKIES DOMINATING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BALL Over the past 103 games, UConn has outgained its opponent 64 times. This stretch, like many UConn trends, dates back to a 28-24 loss at Vanderbilt on Oct. 26, 2002.

CONNECTICUT’S FOUR CAPTAINS The UConn team selected four team captains for the 2011 season, Kendall Reyes (for the second-consecutive year) and Kashif Moore with Moe Petrus and Blidi Wreh-Wilson.

OFFENSE NOTES McCOMBS MAKES IMPRESSIVE DEBUT UConn freshman Lyle McCombs’s 141 yards of rushing in his collegiate debut is the second-highest when compared against UConn’s top 10 career rushing leaders. The best mark belongs to Tony Jordan (No. 10), who had 144 yards vs. Northeastern to open the 1978 season.

Other notables include: No. 1 Donald Brown, 118 yards vs. Rhode Island in 2006; No. 2 Terry Caulley, 62 vs. Boston College, 2002; No. 3 Jordan Todman, 81 vs. Virginia in 2008 (third game of season, was hurt for first two); No. 4 Wilbur Gillard, 91 vs. Furman in 1993; No. 6 Vinny Clements, 71 vs. Vermont in 1968; No. 7 Cornell Brockington, 25 vs. Indiana, 2003; No. 5 Ed Long, No. 8 Jeff Gallagher and No. 9 Andre Dixon did not have carries in their first career games.

THE QUARTERBACK RACE Connecticut entered the 2011 season without a quarterback who has started a collegiate game and with only one quarterback who has played in a collegiate game.

UConn started three different QBs last year, who have all moved on from the program -- graduated Zach Frazer with ten starts, including the last six of the 2010 season; Cody Endres with two starts and Mike Box with one.

Here’s a quick look at the three Husky QBs who are competing for playing time this year: * Senior Johnny McEntee (Fullerton, Calif.) -- Walk-on who has played in two games over the past two seasons...gained international fame last winter with his “trick shot” video on YouTube...the video now has over six million hits...started the Fordham game and was 8 of 12 in the air for 113 yards. * Redshirt freshman Scott McCummings (Natick, Mass.) -Redshirt freshman who attended same high school as Doug Flutie...had over 2,000 yards of passing in senior year with over 1,000 yards of rushing...passed for 15 TDs as a senior and rushed

for another 12...was 1 for 1 in the air vs. Fordham with a 55-yard TD pass and also ran the ball seven times for 23 yards. * Freshman Mike Nebrich (Burke, Va.) -- Highly-decorated Virginia high school player who enrolled at UConn for the spring 2011 semester...as a senior, broke the Virginia state record for all-purpose yards with 4,968 and scored 59 TDs...had 11 yards of rushing vs.

Fordham with 60 passing yards on 3 of 8.

EXPERIENCE ON THE LINE Whoever gets the nod at quarterback for the Huskies plays behind an experienced offensive line.

Senior center Moe Petrus (St. Laurent, Que.) has started 40 consecutive games for the Huskies -- and the last 27 at center.

Senior left tackle Mike Ryan (Tamaqua, Pa.) returns after earning All-BIG EAST first team honors last year and has started 22 games over the past two years.

Junior Adam Masters (Bethesda, Md.) will play right guard and started ten games last year -- the final six at right tackle.

Sophomore Kevin Friend (Warrentown, Va.) will play right tackle and had a pair of starts last year.

DEFENSE NOTES LOTS OF STARTS, STARTERS BACK Connecticut returns on of the most experienced defenses in the country and in the BIG EAST Conference this season.

On the defensive line, UConn returns players that started 45 games in 2010 and 93 for their career.

The linebackers have just nine career and nine starts from ‘10 returning.

The secondary is also very experienced with 45 starts back from last year and 71 for their careers.

For totals, the UConn defense has 100 starts returning from last season and a total of 173 career starts.

JENNINGS GETS FIRST CAREER START Connecticut redshirt junior Teddy Jennings (Dayton, Ohio) made his first career start on Saturday at defensive end. He responded by making eight tackles -- with 2.5 for a loss.

Jennings moved into the starting linep after playing in 13 games over the past two years as a reserve. He started in place of the injured Jesse Joseph, who did not dress for the first time in his career vs. Fordham. The junior had started in 25 games over the past two years, missing one game, but dressed for it.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES TEGGART CAREER LEADER IN FIELD GOALS Redshirt senior Dave Teggart (Northborough, Mass.) has connected on all 103 of his extra point attempts during his career -including 36 in 2010 and 47 in 2009. The 47-straight extra points from 2009 is a school record while his 36 from 2010 is third.

His 52 career field goals is a school record, which he broke with a 24-yard FG vs. Cincinnati in 2010.

His 104 extra points is tied for second in school history while Matt Nuzie had 124 from 2003-06. His 259 career points is tied for first in school history with Nuzie.

Teggart’s 25 field goals last year was a school single-season record. He had a total of 14 field goals in 2009 which is tied as the sixth-highest in school history while his 13 as a freshman is

Teggart recorded what is arguably the biggest play in school history in the regular season finale of 2010 as he kicked a 52-yard field goal with 17 seconds left to play to lift UConn to a 19-16 win over USF that sent the Huskies to their first BCS game in school history. Earlier in the fourth quarter of that game, he kicked a 50yarder.

Teggart kicked a 27-yard field goal in overtime to lift UConn to a 16-13 win over West Virginia on Oct. 29 of last year. He had a total of three field goals in that game and was named the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts.

Those “final play” game-winners were the second and third of his career as he ended the 2009 regular season in fine form as he booted a 42-yard field goal as time expired to give the Huskies a 29-27 win over USF. Dating back to 2009, Teggart had kicked a field goal in 14 of the past 15 games. Teggart kicked a 29-yard field goal with 1:10 to go that tied the game vs. Notre Dame (Nov. 21, 2009) -- a contest the Huskies eventually won in overtime.

Teggart is the first kicker in school history to successfully convert his first 11 field goal attempts.

NICK WILLIAMS LEADS THE COUNTRY IN KO RETURNS UConn sophomore Nick Williams (East Windsor, N.J.) returned two kickoffs for TDs in 2010. Against Pittsburgh he returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. The KO return came at a key time as the Panthers had just gone up by eight points, 21-13.

Williams also had a 100-yard KO return for a touchdown vs.

Rutgers -- the fourth in school history.

Williams led the country in kickoff returns last year with 35.29 yards per return.

Williams becomes just the second Husky ever to have two KO returns for a TD in a career -- joined by Tyvon Branch, who had both of his in 1997.

He had UConn’s only kickoff return on Saturday for 32 yards.

STADIUM/ATTENDANCE NOTES RENTSCHLER FIELD The Huskies moved into brand new Rentschler Field in East Hartford for the 2003 season. Conveniently located within miles of Interstates 91, 84 and 384, the home of the Huskies lies on 75 acres of land donated to the State of Connecticut from the historic Pratt & Whitney Airfield. The stadium, like the former airfield, is named for that company’s founder, Frederick Rentschler. The stadium boasts a capacity of 40,000 with 38 luxury suites in a massive press box tower which helps enclose the natural grass field.

A HOT TICKET Swelling interest in the Husky football program as it gradually moved up into BIG EAST play can perhaps be best evidenced by the rise in attendance. UConn sold 28,000 season tickets in 2008 and sold its entire allotment of student season tickets at 4,700.

season ticket base was around 4,000. In 2002, the number reached 11,300 in the final season of Memorial Stadium. The burgeoning season ticket base more than doubled to 24,000 for the inaugural season at Rentschler Field and rose to 28,000 a year later in 2004.

UConn reached an all-time high of 32,000 season tickets in 2005.

SELLOUT STATS The Huskies have sold out 29 of their first 52 dates at Rentschler Field, including a stretch of 12 in a row.

UConn has played to 96.7-pct. of capacity all-time there, drawing 1,998,010 fans, or an average of 38,423 per game.

RENTSCHLER FIELD PROVES FRIENDLY FOR HUSKIES The Huskies went 7-0 at home in 2007 at Rentschler Field and also 6-0 last year. UConn’s 3-4 mark at home in 2006 was its only sub.500 record at Rentschler Field.

The seven home wins in 2007 set a school record for a single season which was previously set in 2004.

UConn has now won ten consecutive games at Rentschler Field.

UConn presently stands at 40-12 all-time at Rentschler Field including a 23-4 mark in non-conference games.

MICHIGAN, TENNESSEE WILL VISIT RENTSCHLER FIELD Following UConn’s trip to Ann Arbor on Sept. 4, the Wolverines will come to Rentschler Field on Sept. 21, 2013 to take on the Huskies.

UConn will also play a home-and-home series with Tennessee beginning in 2015 with the Volunteers coming to Rentschler Field on Sept. 26 with a return trip to Knoxville on Sept. 3, 2016.

Other upcoming non-conference opponents coming to Rentschler Field include Iowa State (2011), North Carolina State (2012) and Maryland (2013). UConn has now played host to non-conference opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big 10, Big XII and Southeastern Conference at Rentschler Field.

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. - Freshman running back Lyle McCombs(Staten Island, N.Y) rushed for 141 yards and four touchdowns in his first collegiate game as the University of Connecticut football team won their 2011 season opener, 35-3, over Fordham before a crowd of 34,562 at Rentschler Field.

The game marked the Connecticut debut for head coach Paul Pasqualoni, who tied Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech for the most overall wins by a BIG EAST coach. They both have 108 victories. Pasqualoni was the first Connecticut football coach to win his debut since 1923.

The Huskies initial drive ended in a punt after two first downs, but on their second possession began to force their will on their FCS opponent after forcing a Fordham three-and-out. A six-play, 58-yard drive was capped by a McCombs two-yard run. The key play on the drive was a 24-yard pass from Johnny McEntee (Fullerton, Calif.) to Isiah Moore(Cambridge, Mass.).

The Huskies started the redshirt junior McEntee, but Pasqualoni played three signal callers in the contest. Redshirt freshman Scott McCummings (Natick, Mass.) and true freshman Michael Nebrich(Burke, Va.) both played well in their Connecticut unveilings.

Early in the second quarter, the Huskies took over from their own 20 and McCombs had his first big play from scrimmage, rambling 60 yards before being caught at the Ram two-yard line. Two plays later, McCombs scored from the one and Connecticut had a 14-0 lead.

The Connecticut defense, which was spectacular all day, got its first turnover of the season when redshirt freshman safety Byron Jones (New Britain, Conn.) picked off a Peter Maetzold pass. On the next play from scrimmage, McCummings hit redshirt junior tight end Ryan Griffin(Londonderry, N.H.) with a beautiful 55-yard catch-and-run off of play action to put the Huskies ahead by three scores.

The Huskies kept that 21-0 lead until midway through the third quarter when McCombs capped drives with scoring runs of five- and one-yard. McCombs' four touchdowns was the first time a Connecticut footballer achieved that feat since Jordan Todmanturned the trick against Cincinnati in 2009.

McEntee completed eight-of-12 passes for 113 yards, while Nebrich was three-of-eight, for 60 yards and one interception. The McCummings scoring pass to Griffin was his only attempt of the game. Griffin set a career-standard with his 97 receiving yards.

The Connecticut defense held the Rams to just 169 total yards of offense and was led by redshirt junior linebacker Jory Johnson(Mobile, Ala.), who had 11 tackles. Redshirt junior defensive end Teddy Jennings (Dayton, Ohio) had 2.5 tackles for loss.
