ThE COAChES CONNECTICUT HEAD COACH RANDY EDSALL UConn head coach Randy Edsall became the all-time winningest coach in UConn football history on Sat., September 11 with his 67th career win at the school. He tackled the challenge of bringing a former NCAA Division I-AA team up to par with the BIG EAST in an 11-year span head on, guiding the Huskies to the 2007 BIG EAST Championship, three bowl games in the past five years with two bowl wins. He is in his 12th season at UConn and has led the Huskies to wins in 58 of UConn’s last 97 games dating back to the ninth game of the 2002 season. He has a 60-45 (.571) mark through the first 105 games of UConn’s tenure at the FBS level. His overall career mark at UConn stands at 69-69. Friday’s game against West Virginia will be the 139th of his UConn career --the most of any coach in UConn history. He topped the mark of 121 set by J.O. Christian (1934-49). His 69 career coaching wins at UConn is the most of any coach in school history as he passed J.O. Christian who had 66. Immediately prior to becoming UConn’s head coach in 1998, Edsall served as defensive coordinator at Georgia Tech in 1998 under George O’Leary. Edsall began his coaching career at his alma mater, Syracuse, from 1980-1990, working under Frank Maloney and Dick MacPherson in a variety of capacities. Edsall moved on to Boston College where he coached defensive backs under Tom Coughlin from 1991-93 before following Coughlin to the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, staying on the First Coast through the 1997 season. Edsall is a native of Glen Rock, Pa., and graduated from Susquehannock High School. He was inducted into the York Area Sports Hall of Fame. WEST VIRGINIA HEAD COACH BILL STEWART Bill Stewart is in his third full year as the head coach at West Virginia after leading the team to a 9-4 record in 2008 and to a victory in the Meineke Car Care and a 9-4 record last year with a trip to the Gator Bowl. He was the interim head coach for the Fiesta Bowl (a win over Oklahoma) following the 2007 season and was named the full-time head coach following that game. Stewart was the head coach at VMI from 1994-96. He joined the West Virginia staff in 2000 as the quarterbacks coach and worked with a number of position groups until being named associate head coach prior to the 2007 season. He also has coaching experience at North Carolina, Marshall, William and Mary, Navy, North Carolina, Arizona State and Air Force in addition to Montreal and Winnipeg in the CFL. He is a 1975 graduate of Fairmont State and played collegiate at both West Virginia and Fairmont State.

RAdIO & TV COVERAGE TELEVISION COVERAGE Friday’s game will be televised live nationally by ESPN2. Joe Tessitore is on play-by-play while Rod Gilmore is on color. Steve Ackels is the producer and Steve Turnburger is the director. The game will also be replayed on SNY in its entirity on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m.. The game will also be rebroadcast in a condensed mode on the “Husky Power Hour” on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 6:00 a.m.
