WELCOME
from the President of the UCSA, James Addington
Welcome to 2016! According to 2016 Chinese astrology horoscope, it is the year of the Monkey. The year of the Monkey is a year of optimism, cheerfulness and happy family gatherings. Well that certainly makes me want to jump a tree or two. It sure is shaping up to be an epic and this thing in your hand will help you get through all the craziness. So use it! Don’t be that guy or girl who forgets that important Monday KEY meeting or assessment (see what I did there). Having studied at this University for 5 years it is safe to say I have loved every second of it. You are going to have a blast and here are a couple things you should keep in mind while you being a student this year: 1. The UCSA is here for YOU. It’s pretty simple really … the UCSA exists to help you with pretty much everything non-academic related. Having trouble with your lecturer? Need to get a feed before your exam? Want to go to a student event? Having financial struggles? Drinking to much Redbull and need your teeth checked out? Want to join a club and meet like-minded people? No worries! We are your people! We offer a huge range of services to ensure that you are succeeding and having a great time at UC. There are 12 student representatives (I am one of them) and over 100 staff all here to help YOU. Go to ucsa.org to find out more! 2. Get Involved! This place can honestly change your life. My ol mate Albert Einstein once said ‘the only source of knowledge is experience’. So while you are here to get a degree, just remember the thing that really is going help you. The whole ‘student experience’ thing essentially comes down to putting your hand up and making the most of every opportunity. So join that club you were thinking about, talk to that person you see in class, go to that event you saw on Facebook, and apply for that crazy as job on SJS. Because who knows what will happen! In 2016, Monkeys swiftly get the support they need from friends and family (and UCSA), making their wildest ambitions come true, provided they choose the right path and the most appropriate partners. So be a monkey and get amongst this year! Kia pai te haere James Addington

Orientation A legendary part of campus life. The Orientation Festival aims to engage new students, allowing them the opportunity to socialise and familiarise themselves with UC and campus life. For returning students it gives them the chance to reconnect with friends and enjoy themselves whilst their university workload isn’t too busy. Each year we bring together an exciting mix of international and local talent to keep students entertained upon their return to campus. Winterlude Winterlude is not just an extremely complex and clever combination of the words “winter” and “interlude” but it is also how we kick off Semester Two. Becoming a legend of its own, this is the kid sister to Orientation and features similar events to welcome back students and encourage social interaction. Tea Party The End of Lecture Tea Party is a day students look forward to more than their own wedding. Excitement levels are at an all time high. Students dress up and arrive in the masses to celebrate the end of another year of lectures. They are treated to a fantastic day of live music and it’s a great way for them to blow off some steam before end of year exams. Grad Ball
