Equalities and Equality Mark The Centre has a national reputation for its work on equality and diversity through the development of the Equality Standard for Local Government and the Equality Improvement Framework for Wales.

In 2010 we will publish a modified version of the Equality Improvement Framework (based on the Welsh model) this will provide a systems-based approach for mainstreaming equality.

We have maintained our involvement in this work through the development of guidance to the Equality Improvement Framework and through Equality Mark Assessments. The Centre has been the main provider of assessments against the Equality Standard and continues to offer this service to public bodies.

Our work with individual local authorities, public service organisations and voluntary sector bodies in equality and diversity has continued through consultancy and through equality mark assessments. We aim to extend our consultancy role through 2010 and we are currently discussing partnership funding for work with a number of organisations through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.

The Centre continues its innovative work and has been commissioned to undertake a pilot project to develop and evaluate a Kite Mark for family friendly policies for Sefton MBC. This is being monitored by the Department of Work and Pensions for future policy initiatives.

Courses and Training The Centre is launching two new Masters (MA) Programmes in Spring 2010 that build on its strengths in working with the public and voluntary sector. We have, for some time run courses for organisations as part of our consultancy activity but in 2009/10 we have developed the basis for a wider role in Continuing Professional Development. MA IN VOLUNTARY AND THIRD SECTOR MANAGEMENT – this provides an opportunity for managers to engage with high level skills and develop a reflective view of the role of the sector in a time of change. The course has been developed in close collaboration with voluntary sector partners.

These courses are very flexible and they provide a range of options for managers and professionals to take a postgraduate qualification. The modules that we have developed also provide the basis for working more closely with employers in the delivery of training programmes to meet their needs Our training programmes in equality and diversity have continued with a range of clients during 2009/10 and following the success of the Rev. Jesse Jackson lecture in 2008 we have developed a programme of seminars, lectures and events for 2010 that are designed to provoke and stimulate professional and academic debate.

MA IN EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY MANAGEMENT – this provides a qualification in equality and diversity that will be of particular interest to managers across the public, voluntary and private sectors and is designed to develop both practical and critical skills. It is rooted in the experience and knowledge gained in our extensive work in this area.

THE EQUALITY IMPROVEMENT FRAMEWORK: MAINSTREAMING EQUALITY IN PUBLIC SERVICE ORGANISATIONS Stuart Speeden

Written by experts working in the USA, Holland, Greece, Jamaica, Turkey, Spain, Trinidad and the Czech Republic, this book seeks to locate the issue of regeneration in a context which will enable the reader to reflect upon practices which are ‘local’ but are shaped by international processes

This publication is based on the work carried out in the development of the Equality Improvement Framework for Wales and provides a model through which organisations can embed equality as a value through a systems based approach.

CLPS BLOG The Centre also carries out extensive research through consultation and evaluation for clients. Over 30 reports produced for clients in this period provides a rich source of scholarship that underpins research and other activity in the Centre
