During the Great Depression, Betty Boop was a popular female figure as people struggled to find happiness in an era of such loss. She was not only known for her adorable charm but for her controversial sexuality. During this time, it was said that Betty would posses young men in their sleep and would brainwash their minds with scenes of her singing, and dancing which would ultimately purge their memories forever.

Kristy Chong is a Korean American artist who attends the University of Delaware for Fine Arts and English. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland and lived in Singapore for four years from 20052009. Boop Dreams was inspired from Chong’s imaginative love for 1930’s film and Betty Boop’s unique mix of innocence and bold cartoon sensuality. Betty’s sassy independence and humor in her fatale feministic persona made her a glamorous icon throughout the Depression Era. This is Chong’s first published photo book.
