TheProblemThat HasNoName

“As she made the beds, shopped for groceries, matched slipcover material, ate peanut butter sandwiches with her children, chauffeured Cub Scouts and Brownies, lay beside her husband at night- she was afraid to ask even herself the silent question- ‘is this all?”’

Reading: 'Theory As Liberatory Practice'

“Living in a childhood without a sense of home, I found a place of sanctuary in ‘theorizing,’ in making sense out of what was happening. I found a place where I could imagine possible futures, a place where life could be lived differently. This ‘lived’ experience of critical thinking, of reflection, and analysis became a place where I worked at explaining the hurt and making it go away. Fundamentally, I learned from this experience that theory could be a healing place.” (9)

On Judith Butler's "Imitation and Gender Insubordination" Leah Ehland

Homosexuality is not an "imitation" of heterosexuality. The gender roles that are assumed onto butches and femmes should not be assumed based on heterosexual norms.

As a bisexual feminine woman, heterosexual norms should not be placed onto me.

It has been difficult for me to accept my sexuality, as many will assume that I will uphold the expectations of heterosexuality.

If I am in a relationship with a man, many will assume that I am straight.

If I am in a relationship with a woman, many will assume that I am a lesbian only.

It can be a struggle, as sometimes I feel that I am leaving one part of my identity behind.

However, I realize that only I can identify myself, and that social's expectations heteronormality do not.
