Program History The University of Delaware, under the auspices of the College of Engineering, has co-sponsored the FAME/UD Summer Residential Program since 1980 (non-residential 2021). At the inception of the program, the courses offered were mathematics (algebra II, trigonometry, calculus) and science (chemistry, physics). The program course offering was amended in 1987 to include the above courses, as well as English, engineering design and chemistry technology. The program focus of engineering study at the college level is emphasized through seminars and an Engineering Design Competition.
Program Goals • To increase the effective participation of African-American, HispanicAmerican, Native American and other youth in professions supported by the educational disciplines offered at the University of Delaware • To provide accelerated academic enrichment through instructional material and experiential learning • To provide an intense and demanding academic setting resembling a college-level curricula • To provide professional/personal development workshops, assistance in college selection and information on professional options
