Pablo Picasso: The Legacy of Youth

Pablo Picasso: The Legacy of Youth is a focused exhibition which explores the early artistic formation of Picasso, from his early teenage years to his thirties (1896–1914). The exhibition traces the artist’s progress, from his childhood in Malaga to his rise as acknowledged leader of the international avantgarde in Paris. It compares his achievement with the artists he admired and made use of, including Monet, Degas, ToulouseLautrec, Bonnard, Gauguin and Redon. A contextual approach to Picasso’s artistic outpouring reveals his voracious appetite for the contemporary styles that surrounded him and ultimately formed his artistic identity Tickets £13 / £12 concession half price for under 18s, full-time students and Art Fund Members Free for Members and UEA and NUA Student Members

This large figurative bronze sculpture is part human, part animal with rabbit ears and a human face. Usagi is the Japanese word for rabbit or hare and Kannon in Buddhism refers to a Female Bodhisattva of Mercy, regarded as the protector of women and children Goodwood Steps by Anthony Caro is monumental, spanning over 33 metres in length and reaching over 3 metres in height. The abstract sculpture is situated on

the meadow to the east of the Sainsbury Centre. Goodwood Steps creates a powerful dialogue with the striking modernist UEA campus architecture and its ziggurat form is perfect in scale within the softly undulating landscape and large skies of East Anglia. Anthony Caro is one of the most important twentieth century sculptors and Goodwood Steps one of his most important large-scale works Open during daylight hours

Richard Slee Swans

In this new work by acclaimed ceramic artist Richard Slee, fourteen majestic swans with red latex beaks glide across the tranquil surface of the museum plinth. Poetic, witty and surreal, Swans invites the viewer to consider the symbolic power of a creature that has come to represent physical transformation, chastity and beauty in the popular imagination. Slee is known for his brightly coloured, glossy, narrative works that take inspiration from decorative, domestic wares and massproduced souvenirs
