Preface The festival of Christmas has inspired a wealth of music in the western world in virtually every musical style ranging from the devotional to the light-hearted and popular. This little selection includes carols, both ancient and more modern as well as the ever-popular and evocative Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson and James Pierpoint’s evergreen Jingle Bells which is given a swing treatment in this arrangement. The accompanying CD provides listening versions of each piece as well as ‘play-along’ rehearsal tracks for both Primo and Secondo performers. Where necessary, these tracks have been provided with an audible ‘count-in’ which is also notated at the head of the arrangement and each begins with a deliberate delay to allow time for the player to be seated at the piano and to be ready. Vorwort Das Weihnachtsfest hat in der westlichen Welt zu einer unermesslichen Fülle von Musik in allen Stilrichtungen angeregt, von geistlicher bis zu Tanzmusik und Pop. Diese kleine Auswahl umfasst alte und modernere Weihnachtslieder sowie das beliebte und malerische Sleigh Ride von Leroy Anderson und James Pierpoints Schlager Jingle Bells, der hier als Jazz-Version vorliegt. Die Begleit-CD bietet von jedem Lied Hörversionen und „Play-Along“-Fassungen für Primo- und Secondo-SpielerInnen. Wo es angebracht schien, wurden den Tracks Einzähltakte vorangestellt, die auch in den Noten angezeigt sind. Alle Stücke beginnen mit einer extra eingefügten Pause, damit der Spieler/die Spielerin Zeit hat, sich ans Klavier zu setzen und auf das Stück vorzubereiten. Mike Cornick, März 2008
Préface La fête de Noël a inspiré une multitude de mélodies dans le monde occidental, couvrant pratiquement tous les styles musicaux, du religieux au genre léger et populaire. Cette petite sélection inclut des chants de Noël, tant anciens que plus modernes, ainsi que le Sleigh Ride de Leroy Anderson, toujours très populaire et évocateur, et l’intemporel Jingle Bells de James Pierpoint, bénéficiant ici d’une adaptation swing. Le CD joint propose, pour chaque morceau, une version intégrale ainsi que des pistes d’accompagnement, destinées aux répétitions des interprètes principaux et secondaires. Au besoin, ces enregistrements sont pourvus d’un battement rythmique bien audible, également mentionné au début de l’arrangement, et chaque morceau commence intentionnellement avec un décalage afin de permettre au musicien de s’installer au piano et d’être prêt.
