On the one hand the Nazis had to be be mindful of president Paul von Hindenburg and the vice chancellor Franz von Papen, who were members of Germany’s traditional aristocratic and ruling elite. Then there was the Nazis’ own power base, the stormtroopers, made up of millions of angry, disenfranchised men who wreaked havoc on the streets of Germany.
