Monthly Welcome

Monthly Welcome "Hello everyone! My name is Shanyn Thompson, and I am one of your Kiwanis-Family Relations chairs for the 2021-2022 year. I hope you all had a great winter break and an easy start to the semester! We had an amazing fall semester as a club, and I can’t wait to see what we all can accomplish this spring. As some of you may know, I am graduating in May. It’s going to be super sad to leave this great organization, but I look forward to making some lasting memories with you all over the next few months. Now, without further ado, enjoy the newsletter (and keep an eye out for a special article on what the heck Kiwanis-Family Relations even is)!"

Here are some movies that Shanyn recommends! Free Solo (2018) Mean Girls (2004) LaLa Land (2016) Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009) Mamma Mia! (2008)

Nicholas Herrera

Nicholas is a third-year student who joined our CKI family this semester. He heard about CKI from his past Key Club chapter, but he did not have the opportunity to join a CKI chapter in community college. So far, his favorite CKI memory is "Boba Social! It means a lot that the social chairs and the rest of E-board put thought into the events that surround CKI and that we have the chance to kick back and network in a positive environment." Fast Facts: Major: Construction Management Favorite Tenet: Service Hobbies: "Gaming or hanging out with friends is always nice." Page 4

Deanna Kreinbring Deanna is a fourth-year student who is currently serving as the Florida Circle K District Secretary. CKI has been an important portion of her time here at UF, so I've decided to make her responses Q&A style! What keeps you coming back to CKI? "The impactful service and friendships I have built over the last four years keep me coming back. I love how welcoming everyone is and that no matter your major or background, there's something for everyone to enjoy."

Favorite CKI memory? "My first Trick or Treat for the Homeless was definitely my favorite CKI memory. It was such a fun and rewarding experience collecting hundreds of non-perishables to donate to St. Francis. I went to Goodwill and threw an outfit together the day of the event so I ended up as a tourist. Seeing the community come together for a common goal was so cool and made we want to participate in the event every year." Reflect on your time in the club. "UF CKI really became my second family. I couldn't imagine my college experience without the club and don't think I would be nearly as successful without my friends' support. I've held a few different leadership positions, but being a member will always be my favorite." What are you most excited for this year? "I'm super excited for banquet for this year! I really missed our traditions we had to adapt due to the pandemic." Fast Facts: Majors: Criminology and Business Favorite Tenet: Fellowship Hobbies: "I like to read, hike, and I’m trying to teach myself to crochet little cacti lol" Page 6

K-Fam Relations

A Guide to Understanding the Kiwanis Family Contributor: Anagha Mundrathi

"Kiwanis Kids, Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K International, Aktion Club, and Kiwanis. Together we make up the 6 branches of the Kiwanis Family. Taking on an active role in the Kiwanis Family opens up our club to valuable resources, mentorship, guidance, and the opportunity to work with people outside of our own club. Planning joint events and service projects, attending joint meetings and socials allows our members to form meaningful connections and bring awareness to our organization. In light of the devastating impacts of the pandemic on our organization’s numbers, it’s more important than ever to broaden not only our impacts on our community but to widen our reach and increase club strength. Below you will find information on each of the branches of the Kiwanis Family and links to their corresponding websites where you can find resources to plan events. If you think of a fun or creative idea for a Kiwanis Family Relations project, please email us at ufcki.kfam@gmail.com or come talk to Shanyn and me in person."
