"Launched in 2005 through a partnership between The University of Georgia and The Center for Community Preservation and Planning, The UGA Metropolitan Design Studio is an extension of UGA's School of Environment and Design in which students, elected officials, citizens and the business community work together to produce creative solutions to manage growth and development." -The Center This year, students from UGA's 2009 design studio produced a detailed master plan for the Almon Road Corridor. They compiled a booklet that explains their vision and breaks down the site into three key components: the Almon Community, the Conservation Corridor, and the Brown Bridge Boulevard and Community. Simultaneously, these landscape architecture students compiled another booklet detailing the revitalization of Covington's Downtown Government District. The students were divided into three groups consisting of urban design, landscape architecture, and architecture.
