ayder

ayder thermal spa hotel ayder is a typical black sea highland in camlihemsin / rize, which is surrounded by beech forests. the thermal water in the region has been used as a treatment method since 1700’s. this water, which has first discovered by hala people, is extracted from 250m depth. it helped ayder highland to become a tourist attraction from the year of 1987. after opened to tourism, ayder started to host many festivals which led to rapid structuring in the region. the architectural identity elements what makes ayder, ayder has been cut off and many dysfunctional constructions has failed in promoting tourism because they could not handle with the nature. in that kind of humid and high range, there had been built ferro-concrete structures in favor of fast production instead of developing more traditional and experienced systems. the thermal building i study on here is an example of it, as regards its mass on a village scale and the materials used.; although ayder’s general architectural characteristic does refer to typical black sea architecture, it differentiates at some points. in structural system, wooden and stonemasory are used together. these two moisture resistant materials, which have been water-logged through years, are the materials of that specific region. in suc a region, despite the high altitude and the cold, the absence of insulation is suprising. the stone oven in the kitchen was used as a means for heating, which shows the adaptability of traditional materials to the enviroment. thus, the essential life module is the kitchen and the other rooms are located its surrounding. the oven is placed on the north front o kitchens. the window spaces stayed relatively small due to climatic factors and the stonemasory system. there is only an increase in the number of windows if there is a scale up. the houses are scattered around in the region by not giving any harm to topography. no core used and entrances are built in direct proportion to different elevations. in this project, my aim is to reevaluate the touristic thermal building in accordance with the region’s architectural identity.

valdeluz

valdeluz housing

valdeluz is a planned suburb located in the northwest of madrid in 2004, 10.000 residents. now it contains only 1800 people and known as a “ghost city”. my aim is to revive this ghost city in this project. in that regard, a “new city” is planned, a city that settled 15 meters high above ground. a city, where people easily communicate to each other and disregard the unrest that modern city life brings. in the “new city” plan, ghost buildings are designed as museums, exhibition spaces and conference halls. residences are founded within the street texture, more in a simplistic manner. shops and cafes are mounted inside these flying streets and thus, the concept of street is strenghtened.

selimiye

SELIMIYE WAR MUSEUM

selimiye barracks

selimiye district is located in the south of uskudar. ts bridging characteristic between kadikoy and uskudar attracted sultan selim iii and the selimiye barracks was established. it was used grid system in the planning of neighborhood around the barracks, which was used for the first time in ottoman empire. i choosed the project field as the point where grid is broken in order to merge with the organic texture. the axis that now connects the barrack gate and the square as a spine, was then used for military parades. selimiye mosque

in this project the main aim is to line off the axis with a military museum.. it is designed a main exhibiton hall that faces with the gate, where the grid is broken. an inner cort is created to strengten the relation with the squre. it is equipped with social areas and prepares the way of entrance. the entry mass is increased in order to balance the height of historical water gage and the existing texture.
