Get cozy with holiday rom-coms

The holiday season is a time to cuddle up for warmth, and what better way to do that than to snuggle with your favorite person and put on a romantic comedy for winter time?

Classics
You have your holiday classics, but there’s also the new films of Christmas-themed love to take part in. Upcoming premieres include “Last Christmas”, starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding, as well as “Let It Snow” which is based on a novel with the same title. Due to my love of romantic comedies and the holiday season, I’ll probably be in one of those theater seats to watch both of them.
A common holiday film that comes to mind is “Love, Actually”, with its star-studded cast and stories that link all of the separate characters together in some way, shape or form. I watch this movie every winter break because I love how everything connects and how the different stories play out. Everyone who watches the movie has their favorite character story from it, and mine happens to be the focus on a young Thomas Brody Sangster as he pursues a crush on a girl. Got to love young love.
A good place to find some iconic, yet maybe a little cheesy, holiday romance is the Hallmark channel or Netflix. Netflix’s star winter romantic comedy happens to be “A Christmas Prince”. There was such a large audience for the story that a sequel came out not too long after the first movie. Honestly, this film has the normal trope of a rich prince falling in love with a common girl. Yet the aspect of Rose McIver’s character being a reporter who sneaks into the castle where the prince lives and pretends to be a teacher keeps the plot fresh and entertaining. I’ve only seen these movies once, but I’d be willing to give them a re-watch this holiday season.
Underrated
A more indie Christmas film that many may not know too much about is “The Holiday”. This movie has big names like Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and Cameron Diaz on its cast list, so it is a big surprise that some people have not heard of it. I like the plot of the movie overall, and am also a fan of the similar idea of having more than one story that connects in some way; like what we saw in “Love, Actually”. I feel like this is definitely a good watch with a loved one by the fireplace. Out of all the movies, this has the best winter vibes.
Holiday romantic comedies are a very niche sub-genre, but there are plenty to scroll through with various different plots if that is what you are in the mood for on movie night. No matter how you celebrate the holidays, a universal tradition is to be under a thick blanket watching a good winter movie.
