Art Events and Exhibitions The UHCL Art Gallery focuses on visual arts to engage, inspire and entertain university and community patrons. Artists featured in the art gallery include university art students and local artisans as well as internationally renowned artists. Admission is free. Native American Pipe Ritual Lecture with Arthur Amiotte Wednesday, October 10 6 p.m. Bayou Building, Garden Room and Atrium I Arthur Amiotte, an Oglala Lakota American Indian from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, will give a scholarly lecture about Native American sacred rituals, including the use of tobacco pipes. Presented in collaboration with the UHCL Anthropology program.

Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an ageold custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land. Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric Witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. KrakenFest
Join the UHCL Art Gallery in collaboration with the Art and Design program, Literature program and Office of Student Life for an evening of monstrous fun. Set within the backdrop of the art car
created by Jason Makepeace’s art car sculpture class, which crafted a sea monster devouring a Ford Mustang for the 2012 parade, David Day and other members and students from the Literature program will read poetry and prose excerpts featuring the infamous Kraken, a legendary Norwegian leviathan with mythological roots that go as far back as ancient Greece. The event will then continue indoors, where guests will be treated to a screening of the 2010 epic film Clash of the Titans. TournÉes Festival The Tournées Festival is a program of the French American Cultural Exchange. Join us from Friday, Sept. 21 through Saturday, Oct. 13 for the best of new French cinema! Her story seamlessly presents how one woman wandered through life to find the happiness and contentment that her heart has been desiring— amid stern rules and established ethos.
