Art Events and Exhibitions The UHCL Art Gallery is Bay Area Houston’s premier venue for visual arts created by living artists. Exhibitions range from displays of student works to surveys of internationally recognized artists. The gallery hosts on average six shows per year, along with a handful of off-site exhibitions in collaboration with community partners. In addition, the UHCL Art Gallery offers many educational programs throughout the year, including public lectures, artist demonstrations and art-making activities.

event will include panel discussions moderated by Terry Wagner (owner and founder of Mental Diversions Studio), portfolio reviews for aspiring comic book artists, and tours of the comic exhibitions on view in the gallery and on the second level of Bayou Building, Atrium I. Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. Much Ado About Nothing Saturday, September 21 7 p.m. Student Services and Classroom Building, Lecture Hall Writer/director Joss Whedon gives William Shakespeare’s beloved battle-of-the-sexes comedy a contemporary makeover in this feature adaptation starring Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof. In the wake of an eventful trip abroad, Claudio (Fran Kranz) and Benedick (Denisof) arrive safely back in their hometown of Messina, where Claudio wastes no time declaring his love for Hero (Jillian Morgese). Alas, when clever Benedick learns that his friend has poured his heart out to the daughter of powerful governor Leonato (Clark Gregg), he chides his old friend relentlessly over the syrupy assertion while engaging Leonato’s outspoken niece Beatrice (Acker) in a series of spirited debates. Meanwhile, somewhere amidst all of the pointed insults and playful barbs, something that strangely resembles true love seems to blossom between Benedick and Beatrice. Rated PG-13. CADD Autism Speaker Series In their efforts to assist more local families, caregivers and teachers of autistic children, UHCL’s Center for Autism and Developmental Disabilities hosts a speaker series. The informative lectures are provided by the center at no cost. Lectures are held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Student Services and Classroom Building, Lecture Hall. A question and answer session and a complimentary luncheon follow each lecture.
