GET ADVISED. GET AHEAD. HOW WILL I BENEFIT FROM ACADEMIC ADVISING? Academic advising is an important service offered to students like you to assist in navigating the academic issues and policies that lead to a degree. Academic transfer advisers at UHCL are transitional advisers who are ready to help you plan your strategy. This information will help you start at the university in the least amount of time and with the correct classes. Building a partnership with your transfer adviser from the start will help you graduate on time. Unlike many other universities, UHCL provides individualized advising before you apply to our university in order to help you make the right decisions. Our advising staff is supported and trusted by all academic departments at UHCL, ensuring that you will receive accurate and dependable information. We encourage you not to wait until you are ready to transfer to seek the advice of our academic advisers. They will assist you in finding the right major, registering for the correct classes and connecting with campus support services. Your UHCL adviser will give you invaluable information to help you succeed at UHCL. In short, they will advise you as if you were already here.
NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION Our New Student Orientation serves as a bridge to university life and will help you feel at ease about this new chapter in your life. Students are given a campus tour, which will aid in finding classes and student services. You will also be introduced to faculty and staff, including your designated adviser. Orientation is also an opportunity to mingle with other new students (your fellow Hawks) and start friendships that will last a lifetime.
TRANSFER CREDIT GUIDE Look for our Transfer Credit Guide at www.uhcl.edu/tcg. If you can’t meet with a transfer adviser in person or would prefer to explore before you meet with a UHCL transfer adviser, the Transfer Credit Guide is designed to assist you with determining how courses completed at other institutions will transfer to UHCL. The Transfer Credit Guide can be used to create a report that summarizes course equivalencies currently found in our database or to request equivalencies for courses that have not yet been evaluated. This is the same information used to award credit to transfer students. Once a report is completed, it may be submitted to the Office of Admissions to request a review of course work where no UHCL equivalency was found. The site also contains frequently asked questions and user documentation information to assist you with any concerns.
