ABOUT HAROUN AND THE SEA OF STORIES In a city so ruinously sad that it has forgotten its name, a master storyteller suddenly falls silent. Troubled, his son Haroun sets out to find the fabled Sea of Stories and revive the storyteller’s gift. On that journey, Haroun finds that many of his father’s outlandish tales — filled with magic and fantastic creatures — are not only beautiful but also true. This all-ages play, closely adapted from the classic children’s novel, is a fanciful adventure exploring the struggle between light and darkness and highlighting the human need to communicate. It is a fable written out of Salman Rushdie’s own famous battle with censorship.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS Raul Arita (Kitab) is currently a sophomore and is earning his B.F.A. in theatre education at the University of Houston. You may have previously seen him as James in last year’s Directing II production of Circle Mirror Transformation. He is excited to be a part of this show and work with this amazing cast!

Since graduating in 2015, Chandler has worked for The Grand Ole Opry and Sweetwater Sound. He has worked for a number of production companies as an actor, dancer and vocalist: RWS Entertainment Group, D&G Entertainment, Fancy Pants Productions, Inc. and Three Rivers Music Theatre. Professional credits include: Drew (ROA), Eddie (Dogfight) and M (Lungs). Chandler is a Pokémon master and loves to compose, produce and perform songs about his feelings. Her recent roles include Ann Worcester in Unto These Hills, an outdoor drama, Irina in Three Sisters and Romeo in an immersive adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. She received her B.F.A. from West Virginia University. Olivia Dean (Miss Oneeta/Princess Batcheat) is an acting B.F.A. major at the University of Houston in her third year! Yee-haw! She’d like to thank her dad for inspiring her to pick up many instruments (and be groovy at the same time). She enjoys wearing clothes from the ’80s – ’90s and eating some really yummy vegan food. Some of her more recent credits include: Speeding Motorcycle, Life Raft (an original by Eric Moore!), Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, 10-Minute Play Festival and Shrek The Musical. Allyson Dymond (Ensemble) is a sophomore in the acting program.
