Another 20 Ukuleles added to the collection
Cat Connor Book Launch this month!
Our brand new ukulele collection has proven to be so popular that we’ve purchased another 20 ukuleles bringing our collection to 40 and ensuring everyone gets a turn!
Upper Hutt CIty Library has the exciting opportunity to host the launch of local author Cat Connor’s latest addition to the ‘Byte’ series - ‘Databyte’.
The ukuleles are free to issue and can be borrowed for 6 weeks.
The launch is on Friday 13 June at 7pm in the Rotary Lounge. No need to book, we’d love to see you there!
Under Construction! Some serious changes are taking place over Queen’s Birthday weekend. Here’s what’s happening: •• After your feedback all adult magazines will be moving into one space/area/sequence •• A new walkway will be created down the middle of the Adult Fiction collection for ease of access. Unfortunately the moving may lead to some inconvenience while we get everything into its rightful place. Please be patient and ask our friendly staff if you’re not sure where to look for your favourite reads. 2
“Cat Connor’s Databyte, a techno thriller-cum-murder mystery, hits the spot and then some. Even if we’d never heard of the NSA, Eric Snowden, and Julian Assange, this book would be worth the price of admission just to eavesdrop on the internal dialogue of Supervisory Special Agent Ellie Conway.” - Reed Farrel Coleman, award winning author of The Hollow Girl

Big changes ahead for Settlement Support Kia ora koutou! 2014 continues to be an exciting year for Settlement Support. After taking local newcomers to Orongomai Marae in February and hosting a meeting at Parliament with MP Chris Hipkins in March, we have finally launched a Newcomers Network, Global Friends, in the Hutt Valley. Global Friends is a social group for migrants who want to meet other newcomers and explore their new country together. They meet several times each month, organising social get-togethers and trips around the region. The group currently has 25 keen newcomers and keeps growing! As some of you may already know,
last year’s review of the Settlement Support initiative has led to a major restructure of the delivery system that will come into effect from July 2014. Migrants will continue to receive face-to-face support, but the provider of this service is yet to be determined. Essential information is available through Immigration New Zealand’s phone contact centre and the NZNow website (www.newzealandnow.govt. nz) which has been refurbished to cater to migrant needs and concerns.

The closure of the Rimutaka Incline and the opening of the Rimutaka Tunnel in late 1955 were important and memorable events for the Upper Hutt community. This month’s Mystery Photo from the Library’s Heritage Collections shows the crowd at the Summit after
the arrival of the last train up the Incline. Do you know anything about the scene shown or the names of anyone depicted in this picture? If so, we’d love to hear from you. Contact Reid or Lauren at the Library or email archives@uhcc.govt.nz www.uhcl.recollect.co.nz
