C E N T R A L L I B R A R Y L AYO U T C H A N G E S To make it easier for you to browse for material, seek specific items or look for your favourite author or topic, we are planning to change the layout and collection arrangements in the Central Library. The need to purchase new shelving for the fiction collection offers us the opportunity to swap the Children’s area and the Rotary Lounge, which will allow greater flexibility within the spaces, increase visibility, safety and interconnectedness.

COVER IMG Take part in the competition, workshops and events for Poetry Month.

We will also gain a more suitable space for programmes and events by using the current learning centre space that can be made into a separate room. Customers will have the opportunity to view more detailed plans on information boards in the library before the move and will be given opportunities to provide feedback. The change is planned for late November 2016.

Chronicles of a

Trainer Pokemon Go has landed and everyone seems to be playing it (at least 9 million in the USA alone). Personally all I want to do is catch every single one of them which in my opinion shouldn’t be that hard. But the reality is proving somewhat more difficult… In my Pokedex I’ve only caught 51 different Pokemon out of 136. That’s hardly anything and I’ve been playing for more than two weeks now. Pretty disappointing. I’m so over catching Zubats and Pidgeys, no Pokemon trainer is lacking in these. Where are all my Pikachus and Snorlaxes? How I would love a Snorlax! So beyond my ineptitude in catching diverse Pokemon I am never in need of Pokeballs. This is because my place of employment, Upper Hutt City Library, is a Pokestop. We’ve also got two other Pokestops on the left and two more on the right. Lunchtime walks have become my new favourite pastime and hey, I caught a Lickitung in the library yesterday which is better than nothing. I’ve also been testing my battle skills at the Pinehaven Library as it’s a gym. I must admit I’ve never won a battle but perhaps one day… at the very least my Pokemon are enjoying training there. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter accounts as we’ll be keeping you updated with Pokemon Go information such as Lures and sightings.
