UHM is one of a select few universities nationwide to hold the distinction of being a land, sea, and space grant research institution. UHM is known for its pioneering research in such fields as oceanography, astronomy, Pacific Island and Asia area studies, linguistics, cancer research and genetics. UHM’s School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology has its own marine research island called COCONUT ISLAND, located in Ka¯ne‘ohe Bay and a marine research vessel called the KILO MOANA. UH Manoa’s Hawaii Space Flight Laboratory is actively involved in promoting engineering and science research for space missions and is currently on its way to having the ability to fabricate and launch satelites into space. UHM’s LYON ARBORETUM AND BOTANICAL GARDEN is the only university botanical garden located in a tropical rainforest in the U.S.

STAR, our degree audit system, will guide you each semester with course selections from our four year academic plans available for every baccalaureate degree that we award. Our MANDATORY ADVISING POLICY means you will see an advisor every semester for your first two years of school to ensure that you are on-track for graduation. The STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER in Sinclair Library offers multiple study rooms, tutors, and a writing center. Our FIRST-YEAR PROGRAMS help freshmen students with the transition from high school to college by providing a smaller, discussion-based classroom environment and guidance by a peer mentor.
EXPANDING YOUR HORIZONS We provide many programs for students to enrich their college experience and develop professional and life skills in preparation for post-graduation. ■

The MA¯NOA CAREER CENTER helps students acquire valuable work experience and professional development through on-campus employment, internships, cooperative education program, and career counseling. The STUDY ABROAD CENTER, MA¯NOA INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE and NATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE programs allow students to live and study in different countries or in other U.S. states. The HONORS PROGRAM is an opportunity to work and study in a more challenging and stimulating environment. Students enjoy smaller classes in advanced sections, dedicated advising, and faculty-guided independent projects of research or creative expression.
LENDING OUR KOKUA (HELP) We offer a variety of support services to ensure a safe and healthy college experience for our students. This includes an on-campus health clinic, 24/7 escort services provided by campus security, disability services, programs that support student equity and diversity, confidential counseling, and much more.

HALE ALOHA is a complex of four towers (‘Ilima, Lehua, Lokelani and Mokihana) for our freshman residents. Housing options for upperclassmen include suite-style residence halls and apartments. The RESIDENTIAL LEARNING PROGRAMS allow students with similar majors and academic interests to live on the same floor. On-campus residents enjoy features very unique to Hawai‘i such as views overlooking Diamond Head and Waikı¯ kı¯ , cafeterias serving a buffet of local and international cuisine, and lockers to store surfboards.

ALOHA BASH To end the spring semester, Campus Center hosts the ALOHA BASH, a concert featuring some of Hawai‘i’s most popular local musicians.

ASIAN – PACIFIC THEATRE Students have access to discounted tickets to watch performances at Kennedy Theatre, world-renowned for its Asian and Pacific dance and theatre productions.

Hawai‘i’s tropical climate is perfect for outdoor activities. Our STUDENT RECREATIONAL SERVICES coordinates hiking and camping trips, offers surf lessons and other recreational classes, and an equipment rental program. All students receive a pass for unlimited use of “TheBUS,” O‘ahu’s bus transportation system. Use it to explore our island’s most famous landmarks, beaches, and attractions. Hawai‘i is known for its diverse cuisine. Our campus is surrounded by hundreds of eateries featuring some of the best local and Asian dishes.

Our Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Team has won four National Championships. Our football team has won four conference championships and has made 10 bowl appearances. The student activity fee gives students free access to all UH home games. The Warrior Marching Band and Rainbow Dancers perform at various athletic events throughout the year.

SCHOLARSHIPS UHM awards many merit-based scholarships to students who demonstrate superior academic achievement and a record of academic, co-curricular, and community service activities. MA¯NOA MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS Awarded by the Office of Admissions to high-achieving students. Hawai‘i residents, non-residents, and international students are eligible for these scholarships. MA¯NOA CHANCELLOR’S SCHOLARSHIP A maximum of 80 scholarships awarded by the Office of Admissions to high-achieving Hawai‘i high school graduates. REGENT’S SCHOLARSHIP Scholarship established by the Board of Regents awarded to 20 outstanding Hawai‘i freshmen.
