Continued Gifted and Talented (online) prepares students to complete supplemental certification as gifted and talented educators while providing a thorough understanding of theory, research strategies and best practices of gifted education. Special Education Leadership Emphasis (hybrid) develops students into special education leaders that have the skills to address the complex issues surrounding educating students with challenges related to learning, social and emotional needs.

DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL, HEALTH AND LEARNING SCIENCES Health, B.S. The Bachelor of Science Health program prepares students to meet the demand for health care professionals by offering three degree tracks: public health, health promotion and health promotion for allied health professionals. These tracks will prepare graduates to work in a variety of settings including public health agencies, worksite health promotion and voluntary health agencies.

Health Promotion This degree emphasizes socio-cultural, behavioral, psychological and biological factors contributing to wellness and disease. It is an ideal major for students interested in public or community-health practice, health-behavior research, public or community-health program planning and delivery, and pre-professional preparation for medicine, pharmacy, optometry and dentistry. Health Promotion for Allied Health Professionals This degree option consists of courses in health promotion and disease prevention, public health, personal health and health electives. This curriculum provides a program that coordinates well with previous educational backgrounds and trainings. Students who have completed a two-year associate degree program in an allied health field may transfer in University core-course requirements and advisor-approved courses.

Human Development and Family Studies, B.S. The Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies focuses on contemporary families, parent education and early childhood education, among other topics. It prepares graduates for careers as an elementary school or special education teacher, human services administrator or day care director. Students may choose to take courses to prepare them for the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Certificate (formerly American Humanics), which prepares students to manage nonprofit organizations

UH LAW CENTER UH Law Center was established in 1947 and enrolls more than 800 students in its degree programs. We offer the Juris Doctor degree (J.D.), the Legum Magister degree (LL.M.) and concurrent degrees that allow students to obtain two degrees in less time than individual programs would require. We are currently ranked No. 50 among the nearly 200 law schools in the United States, and we are one of only eight public law schools that offer multiple top 10 programs. The Law Center is a global school, well-connected with the international legal and education communities. The international activities of our faculty include visiting professorships, publications in foreign journals and participation in international symposia and conferences. The primary difference between these two degrees is that the Bachelor of Science requires a focus in formal science and mathematics, and the Bachelor of Arts requires a focus in foreign language. Students who major in Communication Sciences and Disorders will first obtain a firm grasp of normal communication processes, the normal structure and function of the speech and hearing mechanisms and the normal development of communication abilities in children and adults.

Human Nutrition and Foods, B.S. The Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods offers three degree tracks: ACEND Accredited, Nutrition and Fitness and Nutritional Sciences. ACEND Accredited Track Accredited by The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Upon completion of this degree, also called the Didactic Program in Dietetics, students can apply to enter a supervised practice program, which will make them eligible to take the registration examination for dietitians. At the undergraduate level, this degree emphasizes the knowledge and skills essential for competent entry-level dietetics practice.

Nutrition and Fitness Track This degree plan is designed to emphasize the basics of nutrition and wellness. Students will receive integrated coursework in both nutrition and kinesiology. The Nutrition and Fitness Track provides a solid foundation in science, nutrition and exercise for those looking to work in health and wellness-related fields. Nutritional Sciences Track This degree plan is designed to prepare students to apply for post-graduate professional programs in medicine, dental, optometry, pharmacy and other post-graduate programs in the health care arena. Students earning a degree in the Nutritional Sciences track will have in-depth knowledge of the science of nutrition and a solid foundation in applied science.

Sport Administration, B.S. The Bachelor of Science degree in sport administration is designed to meet the diverse needs of the rapidly changing sports, fitness and tourism industries. Depending upon the area of professional interest (e.g., sports information, journalism, management, sales, facility operations, travel and tourism, etc.) graduates may seek placement in a variety of career settings. Choices may include golf and country clubs, health and fitness facilities, professional sports franchises, the sporting goods industry, television, university and scholastic athletic departments and recreational programs.

The Graduate Certificate in Sport and Fitness Operations Management gives those with business training the opportunity to break into the sport and fitness industry without having to commit to a master’s degree. The Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy Doctor of Philosophy degree encompasses pharmaceutical practice and policy research, and a multidisciplinary approach that examines cost, access and quality of pharmaceutical care from clinical, sociobehavioral, economic, organizational and technological perspectives. Traditional and innovative areas of pharmaceutical health outcomes research include pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, comparative effectiveness research, patient-centered outcomes research and translational research. Graduates of the program typically are employed in academia, the pharmaceutical industry and consulting organizations. Pharmacy Leadership and Administration, M.S. The Master of Science in Pharmacy Leadership and Administration program is a postdoctoral degree to train and develop the next generation of pharmacy leaders and innovators in health system pharmacy. The degree is part of a collaboration with seven fellow Texas Medical Center institutions offering PGY1 and PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency programs collectively known as The Houston Program.

Pharmacy, Pharm.D. The Doctorate of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program is a four-year professional program that prepares individuals for a variety of areas within pharmacy practice. In collaboration with its fellow Texas Medical Center institutions, the college’s Rio Grande Valley Pharm.D. Satellite Program and others, the college offers a range of clinical research opportunities and practice experiences in compounding, oncology, infectious disease, pediatrics, women’s health, critical care, managed care and veterinary pharmacy. HOW TO APPLY 1. The application. Go to applytexas.org or commonapp.org to submit your application for the University of Houston. 2. The $75 Application Fee ($90 for international applicants). Pay the nonrefundable $75 application fee when you submit your application or mail a check or money order to the Office of Admissions. Your check or money order must be payable to: University of Houston. 3. Send your text scores. Official SAT or ACT scores should be sent directly to UH from the testing agency. The University of Houston SAT code is 6870 and the ACT code is 4236. SAT and ACT policy allows students to send test scores to several colleges. Official test scores must have been taken within the last five years. 4. If possible, ask your school administrator to send your transcript data electronically through an EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) system, e.g., TREx (for Texas institutions).
