UNIVERSITY OF AGDER The University of Agder(UiA) is the most recently established university in Norway, but its history goes back to 1839. UiA is situated on the southern tip of Norway with 8,700 students, and 1,000 faculty and staff members.
UiA is organised into five faculties: > Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences > Faculty of Humanities and Education > Faculty of Fine Arts > Faculty of Engineering and Science > Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences Research is the foundation of all activities at the University of Agder. Research projects are connected to the faculties and cover a variety of disciplines. Internationalisation is a focus area at UiA. The university cooperates with several universities and colleges abroad and has signed
agreements with 175 universities in all parts of the world. Regional cooperation is also a distinguishing feature at UiA and includes close collaboration with the business community, public sector and non-government organisations. This way, UiA contributes considerably to regional economic, social and cultural development. New and modern campus facilities provide updated classrooms, IT systems, computer labs and excellent library services.

Strong emphasis on research and internationalisation The majority of faculty members at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences have full professor/ associate professor competence, and the Faculty contributes significantly to UiA’s list of publications, including international publications. The Faculty’s international profile is reflected in all activities, instruction, student and staff exchange, and research cooperation. The Faculty is involved in both bilateral and multilateral exchange programs of students and faculty members at universities in all parts of the world.

PhD PROGRAMMES The overall purpose of these programmes is to give the PhD candidate a deep and broad theoretical and methodological knowledge, along with the experience of completing a substantial piece of original scientific work (the dissertation). Information Systems The PhD programme in Information Systems concentrates on research related to the development, implementation, use, and evaluation of information systems at different organisational levels and in both private and public sectors. Public Administration The Public Administration PhD programme focuses on issues related to public policy and administration and aims at understanding the development and implication of composite administrative systems at different levels of government. The focus is two-folded. First a focus on the multiple governance dynamics embedded in singular administrative systems, such as the European commission, and regional and local government.
