JOHN REAGER

February marked the end o f a n Idaho tradition, with the death of alumnus John Reager. Known by most as "Big John," he could be recognized by his enthusiastic and often humorous stunts as a "cheerleader" at Vandal football games. President Hartung summed up the feelings of the university in saying, "The University has lost a tried and true friend, a person who often put university interests before his own. Friends like that are hard to come by and his passing is a great tragedy for us all."

"It was the best spring football session during my 10 years here at the university ," Idaho head coach Ed Troxel noted upon the completion of spring football drills for the Vandals in 1976. The silver and gold ended their workout on May I, with the annual Silver and Gold Bowl in the Kibbie-ASUI Dome. Over 2,500 fans were on hand for the contest, won by the gold team 34-21.

IDAHO

TMII GOVERNOR

BOISE

GOVI!:RNOR

Dear Friends: Here in Idaho we are using the bicentennial as a focus for a new approach to our problems, taking advantage of our re-dedication to the principles of Americanism. Working with our fine educational institutions , the State of Idaho plans to meet its problems with information, not emotion ; with education, not guesses ; and with facts , not rumors. With this approach we can solve our problems. They are man- made and can be man- solved. All it takes is the work of all of us.

CECIL D. ANDRUS GOVERNOR erne
