Magnus kan niet slapen

Sleepless Magnus Kim Crabeels illustrations by Sebastiaan Van Doninck • A funny debut by Kim Crabeels • With colourful and attractive illustrations by Sebastiaan Van Doninck • The first part of a new series about a special, yet very recognizable boy

Magnus cannot sleep, even though he is so tired. He hears too much noise, even when his ears are covered. Outside it’s quiet. The Monster doesn’t utter a sound. It closed its fifteen scary eyes and laid its head on the ground. Magnus’ mouth says ‘whoeeeaaaahmmmrr’. A yawning lion roars in there! But mom can tame this beast and bravely starts to read a book. She reads and reads and reads and reads and … Suddenly the sound has stopped.

Kim Crabeels always wanted to become a writer when she was a child. And a vet, a lawyer or even a cook on a pirate ship. Eventually, she became a Dutch teacher and a mother of three. Books were never far away, even though sometimes she had so little time to read them. When she started to read for her own children, Kim decided to write children’s books herself. Sebastiaan Van Doninck studied illustration at the Sint-Lucas College in Antwerp. He has already illustrated several children’s books and regularly works for magazines, such as Weekend Knack.

A surprising and imaginative book about a boy who cannot sleep. A recognizable theme for all parents and children.

A book with a fantastic story line, lots of useful information and interesting assignments. Sometimes a bone breaks. That hurts a lot. If a bone in your arm breaks, your arm has to be in plaster. And if a bone breaks in your leg, your leg has to be in plaster. The plaster cast keeps your arm or your leg in place. Like this, the bone gets the time to grow back together.

Sylvia Vanden Heede has written over 20 books for children and young adults which have all been enthusiastically received. The first book in the Fox and Hare series, published in 1998, has received no less than 7 prizes, including the ‘Boekenleeuw’ and the ‘Gouden Uil Jeugdliteratuurprijs’. Her book Fox and Hare and the thief of Eek was awarded the ‘Zilveren Griffel’. In 2010, Wolf and Dog received the ‘Vlag en Wimpel’ prize. Marije Tolman was awarded the ‘Vlag en Wimpel’ prize for her illustrations of the Missy Mouse series. Her book The treehouse was awarded the prestigious ‘Bologna Ragazzi Award’ in 2010 and it was shortlisted for the ‘Gouden Uil Jeugdliteratuurprijs’.

Macbeth Siska Goeminne illustrations by Thé Tjong-Khing • First book in a series of reworked Shakespeare plays • Highly original adaptation by award-winning author Siska Goeminne • With surprising illustrations by icon Thé Tjong-Khing Macbeth is the story of Macbeth, a man who has everything but who is never satisfied. It is the beginning of a story with dramatic consequences. There once lived and died, in a land full of green hills, a man named Macbeth. He had everything. But not enough. He had a castle, and stables with more than twenty horses in it. A forest around it, and from the towers you had a magnificent view over the sea. A kitchen full of cooks who were always too busy, but who could cook very tasty. He had pedigree dogs and chickens, and maids and brave soldiers.

Only the kingdom, did he not have. His cousin Duncan did. He had it all. A tale full of sword-rattling and snorting horses, brave men and evil witches. Siska Goeminne studied Languages and Arts & Culture. She worked in the department of Dutch language at the KULeuven and as an editor at a publishing company. Nowadays she is a full-time author. Thé Tjong-Khing is one of the Netherlands’ most talented and well-known illustrators. The Dictionary of Fox and Hare received the prestigious ‘Gouden Penseel’. Where is the cake?, the first book in the successful Cake series, received the ‘Woutertje Pieterse’ prize and the ‘Zilveren Penseel’. In 2010 he was awarded the ‘Max Velthuijs’ prize for his entire oeuvre.
