The Dinosaur Revolution 170 x 240 mm | ca. 228 pages ca. 68,000 words full colour illustrations | hardcover all rights available

Gijs Rademaker & Maarten van Rossem

The Dinosaur Revolution

Dinosaurs broke all the records in the animal kingdom. They were the longest and tallest, the fastest, the most heavily armored, and they had the largest teeth and claws. The fact that these impressive animals roamed the earth for millions of years continues to capture the imagination. Gijs Rademaker and Maarten van Rossem traveled together through Canada and the United States, where they visited excavation sites and met with experts. In British, German, and Dutch museums, they examined unique skeletons and spoke with leading dinosaur scientists.

The world-famous Tyrannosaurus rex did not stalk its prey with a loud roar, but silently. The long-necked Diplodocus had air sacs throughout its body. The feathered Velociraptor was no bigger than a turkey. Although dinosaurs come in unique shapes and sizes, they are not the terrifying monsters they are often portrayed as, but rather ordinary animals with their own place in evolution.

Find out in this title how reality outdoes fiction by far!

Einiosaurus

Als er één dier bewijst dat niet alle hoorns voor verdediging zijn gemaakt, is het Einiosaurus wel. Eini betekent ‘buffel’ in de taal van de oorspronkelijke bewoners van Montana, de Blackfoot. Hoorns boven de oogkassen had het beest nauwelijks, maar wel een flinke neushoorn. Alleen was die op een vreemde manier naar voren gebogen, in een hoek van zo’n dertig graden, als was hij gesmolten of verwelkt in de volle zon. Voor de functie van deze hangende hoorn heeft nog niemand een verklaring gevonden. Einiosaurus heeft ook rechte hoorns: twee spitse, ranke antennes helemaal boven op zijn nekkraag. Als die geen versierfunctie hebben? Er hangen nog net geen vlaggetjes aan. {afb. 3.12}

Chasmosaurus

Gijs Rademaker is a historian, talkshow host and dinosaur expert. Maarten van Rossem is a historian, author, podcast maker and also a dinosaur enthusiast.

Tales of Nature

All life on earth is interconnected. The extinction of one single species has consequences for many others. That interconnectedness makes life on earth vulnerable, also human life.

By means of historical drawings but also through examples from contemporary art, nineteen experts tell stories about the great stress on nature and the role of people in it. It is an extraordinary book that shows how in the grand, overwhelming nature, humans are only a small cog, but one whose actions have far-reaching consequences; for humans themselves as well as many other species.

Hans Mulder is a historian and works as a conservationist of natural history at the Allard Pierson, the collections of the University of Amsterdam.

More than 100 detailed drawings by a forensic pathologist, depicting the step-by-step approach of an autopsy

A crash course in human anatomy for true-crime fanatics, amateur detectives and anyone who enjoys a good mystery

Babette Van Rafelghem, with descriptions by Werner Jacobs

Post Mortem

Atlas of the autopsy

Let’s be honest, what most of us know about autopsies stems from TV crime shows. We immediately think of a lone forensic pathologist examining a pristine-looking body and determining the cause of death by the tiniest clue, all in record-time. The reality, of course, is starkly different.

In Post Mortem, we step inside a real-world mortuary. We stand alongside a forensic pathologist while she performs an autopsy, and we keep a meticulous record of our observations. Where was the body found? In what position? Are there any visible wounds, bruises, injection marks? What is the body’s temperature and what can that tell us? What can we deduce from the stomach’s contents, or the brain tissue, or the neck muscles? When, how and why did this person die?

Post Mortem is a fascinating visual guide into the world of forensics. With her stunning illustrations, the author is on a mission to demystify her profession, while questioning the modern day taboo that still surrounds death.

Babette Van Rafelghem is an artist who also happens to have a medical degree. Fascinated by the weird and wonderful human body, she is building a career as a forensic pathologist. Werner Jacobs is a professor in Forensic Medicine and Pathology at the University of Antwerp and a published author. He has been an expert witness in hundreds of high-profile criminal cases in Belgium.
