The Premium service package includes everything offered in the Standard and Advantage service packages, but ensures that you benefit from enhanced visibility and representation.

You will automatically qualify for one of our three service packages based on your membership fee, which we calculate for you. If you would like to upgrade to the Advantage or Premium package, it’s very simple; all you need to do is pay the threshold fee for the package you want. How we calculate your membership fee depends on your company’s core business activity. The fee is calculated based on:* your operating expenditure if you are an operating company; the population in your district x GDP per capita if you are an organising authority; your company’s latest published turnover in public transport if you are a product or service supplier. If you are an academic or associate member, then a fixed fee will be applied. * For more information on our fees simply contact membership@uitp.org to request a non-binding quote.

Public Transport International (PTI) magazine

Contributions to PTI magazine (submission of articles)

Our official magazine, Public Transport International (PTI), offers global coverage of urban, suburban and regional public transport issues. With articles examining a broad range of topics related to sustainable mobility, PTI will fast become your trusted source for the latest public transport trends and analysis.

PTI magazine features articles written by sector professionals like you who are keen to share their knowledge and expertise. The magazine offers our readers insight into all aspects of urban, suburban and regional public transport and covers a very wide range of topics, such as human resources, regional rail transport, market organisation and regulatory matters.

P. 18

05.

As a UITP member, your organisation receives a copy of each edition of PTI in the post. The magazine is published a number of times per year (frequency subject to change but minimum two issues per year), and is available in French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Turkish and Russian. All members of your organisation can read the magazine online and access back issues by logging on to MOBI+.

As a member, you are welcome to send ideas for articles to the editor. All you need to do is send a short abstract in English, outlining the main points you plan to cover in your proposed article. We will assess and review all abstracts we receive to see whether they are suitable for publication. If your proposed article is suitable, you will be contacted by the PTI editorial team, who will brief you on how to proceed with the publication process. QUESTIONS? Contact editor@uitp.org

New member profile in PTI magazine If you are a new member of UITP, you have the opportunity to feature a short description of your company, complete with your logo and website address, in PTI magazine.

Once your organisation has officially joined UITP, the main contact within your organisation will receive an email from the PTI editorial team, inviting them to complete a member profile form. Once we’ve received your completed form, we will then translate your profile and publish it in the four official UITP languages in a future edition of the magazine, reaching thousands of readers worldwide. QUESTIONS? Contact editor@uitp.org

General advocacy Advocacy is one of our three key missions, and essentially this means that we work on your behalf to secure a supportive policy and business environment for public transport. One way we do this is by working to ensure that public transport plays a major role in urban mobility policy worldwide. We also aim to see public transport mainstreamed in other policy areas and we do this by highlighting the wider benefits of public transport. Our main advocacy targets are local and national governments, European and international institutions, the business community and urban visionaries.

We realise that partnerships and collaboration are key elements of successful advocacy action and so we develop alliances and work together with international networks of local and national governments and business organisations, such as the C40, the International Transport Forum and the World Economic Forum. Our wide-ranging work sees us take part in international events, co-organise events and side-events, contribute to joint research and publications, take on an advisory role in initiatives, research projects and programmes, and lead or participate in joint policy positions or campaigns. QUESTIONS? Contact jerome.pourbaix@uitp.org

We also engage with the European Union and international institutions such as UNHabitat, the World Bank and the World Health Organization so that we can influence their policy agenda and their decisions. By working in partnership with these institutions, we also take part in a wide range of international initiatives and programmes; this can involve carrying out research, building capacity at local level and supporting your business development activities.

STANDARD SERVICES

EU-level representation for operators and authorities Our European Department is your voice in the European Union. Participation in third-party funded projects There are several ways we can help you get involved in cutting-edge research projects. We are a leading partner in a wide range of projects and, thanks to the high-quality results that we’ve achieved, we have built up a strong reputation in this area. This means that we are called upon to identify, and are able to promote, our sector’s priorities in terms of research and innovation. When we’re preparing project proposals and are looking to select consortium partners, whenever possible we will give priority to UITP members. If possible, we also give priority to our members when putting together independent working groups for ongoing projects. Of course, we select consortium and working group members carefully, taking into account quality requirements and each project’s specific objectives.

For project proposals that are not led by UITP, we will put forward your name to the proposal coordinator if you are interested in taking part. For proposals that we are not involved in, but which are nonetheless relevant to public transport, we will act as an information hub, putting you in touch with possible proposal teams.

Just contact us referring to the specific third-party/EU call that you’re interested in, explaining what specific contribution you think you could make to the project/proposal. For ongoing projects, we will contact you directly and/or send out a call for expressions of interest according to the specific topics being dealt with by the project groups.

Sustainability Charter and CSR coaching Our Sustainability Charter is a flagship corporate sustainability initiative designed for the public transport sector. Thanks to the tools and knowledge we can provide, we’ll empower you to show leadership and deliver on your commitment to corporate sustainability and sustainability reporting. If you sign up to the Charter, not only will we promote your contribution to sustainable development, we will also offer you various services giving you the practical help you need so that you can enhance your reporting on non-financial performance and successfully implement corporate social responsibility practices in your organisation. Eligibility for Committees and Commissions

(not applicable to EU Committee)** As a UITP member, you automatically belong to the Regional Division covering the country where your headquarters is based. Moreover, depending on what your organisation does and the public transport modes it covers, you could also join a Sectoral Division (for Industry or Organising Authorities) or one or more Modal Division(s) (Bus, Light Rail, Metro, Regional & Suburban Rail).

P. 46

05.

Each of our Divisions comprises one or more Committees bringing together a small group of members working on specific topics. In addition, our Commissions are groups of experts working on thematic issues related to public transport, such as marketing or security.

The experts working in our Committees and Commissions share, compile and develop cutting-edge knowledge for the whole community of members. They also help develop universal services such as newsletters or events that will be of interest to a wide range of their fellow members. The rules concerning membership of our Committees and Commission are governed by Terms of Reference and these are approved by our Executive and Policy Boards. Generally, membership of a Committee or Commission is limited to four years.

If you are interested in joining a specific Committee or Commission, go to www.uitp.org/contacts and get in touch with the manager in charge of the topic dealt with by the Committee or Commission. ** Following the Terms of Reference

Eligibility for Boards (via election)**

UITP is managed and represented by the Executive Board. The Executive Board manages our finances, property and real estate and sets out policies on association matters such as membership, structure and rules of procedure. Our Executive Board comprises the UITP President, Vice-Presidents and our Secretary General. Each UITP Division is represented in the Executive Board by the President of its Assembly. The Policy Board is our ultimate decisionmaking body on professional matters. For example, the Policy Board prepares our sector strategy and approves all our official international policy positions as well as our Integrated Global Work Plan. Our Policy Board meets twice a year, when its members can connect with fellow professionals and discuss and exchange ideas on the latest sector developments from an international perspective. The UITP President and Vice-

Presidents have seats on the Policy Board, as do the Presidents of our Committees and Commissions and representatives of our geographical regions.

PROCEDURE The procedure for nominating candidates for the Presidency of a UITP Assembly, Committee or Commission is set out in articles 5 and 6 of our Bylaws. The UITP Executive and Policy Boards are covered by articles 7 and 8 of our Bylaws. QUESTIONS? Contact christina.beier@uitp.org

If you would like to take an active role in setting the direction of our Association, you can stand for election as President of any Assembly, Committee or Commission of which you are a member. If your election bid is successful, you will automatically gain a seat on the UITP Policy Board if you are President of a Committee or Commission, and each elected President of a UITP Assembly gains a seat on both the Executive and Policy Boards. Once you have officially been elected, you will receive an invitation letter from the UITP Secretariat giving you all the relevant details regarding your mandate, its duration, the forthcoming meetings and documents.

Eligibility for Regional Executive Committees (not applicable to EU Committee)** Our Regional Executive Committees are a real driving force behind our association, as they provide a regional perspective on urban mobility issues. Their input is a cornerstone of our mission to build up integrated knowledge on public transport around the world, and it also supports our global advocacy and business activities.

P. 48

05.

For example, our Regional Executive Committees prepare positions and statements regarding regional or international advocacy and deliver services for members. Each Regional Executive Committee meets in person at least once a year. Each of these Committees has a Chairperson, one (or more) Vice-Chairperson(s) and various members, and the meetings are also attended by the UITP Secretary General or his/her representative.

Our Regional Executive Committees are represented in the Executive Board and in the PresCom by their Chairperson, and one of the Vice-Chairpersons represents the Regional Executive Committee in the Policy Board. Each Committee operates within the framework of the Terms of Reference of their particular Regional Division. The Terms of Reference set out the common positions of all UITP Expert Groups as well as the specific mission statement and scope of each Expert Group. ** Following the Terms of Reference

If you are a member of a UITP Regional Division, you are eligible to stand for election to the Regional Executive Committee covering your specific region. The general rules concerning nominations (profile, elections, mandate, obligations, etc.) are available in part 2 of the Terms of Reference of the UITP International Commissions, Committees and Platforms, and Regional Committees. If some specific rules apply for a specific Regional Executive Committee, these are set out in part 3 of the same Terms of Reference. Key tools include our Policy Briefs, which are our official policy positions targeting local or national decision-makers, the business community or urban visionaries.
