SPRING LUNCHEON
MAY 3, 2024 | CHICAGO
Gies College of Business Alumni Association
Dear Alumni and Friends,
On behalf of the faculty, students, and staff of Gies College of Business, I welcome you to our annual Spring Luncheon.
Since I became dean in 2015, I have come to look forward to Spring Luncheon every year. It has truly become one of my favorite events in the annual life of our College. Meeting with alumni like you, hearing your stories, and interacting with you has been one of the most gratifying parts of my job. Seeing how our work makes a life-changing impact on so many makes me grateful that I am able to learn your stories.
As a College, we are continuing to build upon our foundation of excellence and prepare for the future. We have been watching the construction of Steven S. Wymer Hall for about a year now, and it is thrilling to walk by that site and see the changes that are taking place. When completed, Wymer Hall will greatly enhance our ability to prepare students for futures of purpose and impact.
Our programs continue to be recognized for their excellence. Our undergraduate program was ranked #15 by Poets&Quants and #17 by US News & World Report. Our undergraduate and graduate accounting programs have both been ranked in the top three by US News. Your enthusiasm for our students and support for our College have been important factors in these achievements.
I encourage you to share the story of Gies Business with your colleagues and friends. Share your pride. You remain our greatest ambassadors. There are many ways you can get involved in the life of our students. I urge you to reach out to us to learn more about ways to give back to our students—either through your time, talent, or treasure.
Gies College of Business is a community, and you are among its most important members. Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to continuing to partner with you.
Best wishes,
Jeffrey R. Brown Josef and Margot Lakonishok Professor of Business and Dean Gies College of BusinessRegistration & Networking

Distinguished Alumnus Award Recipient
Quintin Anderson ’94 Co-Founder & Chief Operating Officer, Granite River LabsAfter graduating from Illinois, Quintin earned his CPA license and joined Deloitte – audit, followed by management consulting, holding leadership positions on three continents before and after attending Harvard Business School where he earned an MBA in 2001.
In 2005, he left the corporate world and purchased and ran a small manufacturing company along with a graduate school classmate, selling the company to a strategic buyer in 2007. In 2009, he co-founded Granite River Labs (GRL), also with a (different) graduate school classmate.
Headquartered in Silicon Valley with labs and R&D centers around the world, GRL has been recognized as a leading engineering services and test automation solutions firm for digital connectivity and smart charging technologies like USB, PCI Express, and Qi wireless charging, and smart home Internet of things (IoT) standards like Thread and Matter. From 2015-2023, he served on the Board of Directors of the HDMI Forum, the standards group driving new developments in and global adoption of HDMI technology.
Quintin lives in Redwood City, California, with his wife Colleen and daughter Isabelle. He remains a proud Illini and enjoys driving around California sporting his alumni license plate holder purchased at the Illini Union in 1994 and yelling at his TV/radio/streaming media device during Illini sporting events – sometimes in tandem!
As a tremendous supporter of Gies Business, he has connected with students as a featured alumni speaker and hosted regional events in California to create awareness and strengthen the Illini network in his area.
Quintin earned a bachelor’s degree in accountancy with highest honors from Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois in 1994.
