UNIVERSITY OF THE INCARNATE WORD!

OCTOBER 15, 2012

What’s the Word? A Walk with our Ancestors ! Learn how the many diverse cultures present at our University honor their deceased with the upcoming event "A Walk with our Ancestors." The event was developed by the Program Development graduate course taught by Dr. Sharon Herbers. The seventeen students came together to highlight the the different cultures on campus and explore the world around us by reflecting on this ritual tradition. Development of the event began with the traditional celebration Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead. Exhibit will showcase various cultures and the sacred rituals used to honor the dead.

KEARNS IN CONCERT!

Friends, UIW family, and fans joined us at the Heritage Day celebration concert showcasing Anthony Kearns and Patrick Healy. The Irish tenor, Kearns, along with long time friend and pianist Patrick Healy performed their beautiful tunes in the Chapel of the Incarnate Word. Their classical Irish music brought smiles and joy to those present. The duo has worked alongside each for many years and was honored to perform at UIW. Thank you to all who attended.

Know the Stats: • Besides skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among American women. Just under 30% of cancers in women are breast cancers. • In 2011, there were more than 2.6 million breast cancer survivors in the US. • A woman’s risk of breast cancer approximately doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. About 15% of women who get breast cancer have a family member diagnosed with it.
