The Lego Man Ed Sheeran has been going from strength to strength. He released his final independent EP, No.5 Collaborations Project On 8th January 2011 featuring appearances from artists including Wiley, JME, Devlin, Sway and Ghetts. This was the start of his mainstream awareness as he reached number 2 in the iTunes chart without any promotion or label. Within the first week he sold over 7,000 copies. More people became aware of Ed Sheeran’s talent after watching his SBTV Exclusive ‘You Need Me I Don’t Need You’ on YouTube, which is currently on 5Million views+. Ed Sheeran is known for performing publicly to crowds at train stations and on the streets, which is exactly what he did after performing at a gig. He went on to continue the show outside, which gathered a massive audience as they enjoyed his mix of melodies. Later that month, Sheeran was signed to Asylum / Atlantic Records. On 26 April, Sheeran appeared on the TV music show, Later... with Jools Holland – where he performed

the song “The A Team”. Six weeks later “The A Team” was released as a digital download in the United Kingdom. The release served as the lead single from Sheeran’s debut studio album, entitled quite simply, +, which was released through Atlantic Records on 12 September 2011. “The A Team” entered the UK chart at number 3, selling over 58,000 copies in the first week. It was congratulated on being the highest-selling and highest-charting debut single of 2011. Ed Sheeran says “I’m touring the world, my album’s coming out everywhere” he admitted.

Fans of his collaborations project that launched his career and gathered him masses of online attention, will be pleased to hear something similar is in the offering. “I’ve got another project that comes up next year as well with someone cool which will be... fun,” he said, alluding to his new adventure. ‘Young Kingz’ musical career began at the ages of 16 and 17, when they would often be found performing in local youth clubs and schools. It was these performances that helped generate the foundations for their fan base. They then went on to release their first mix tape. Soon ‘Young Kingz’ music could be heard playing throughout the north London schools and air waves, all within an unprecedented amount of time. A new and uncompromising voice for the youth had been born. The buzz beginning to surround the young group caught the attention of Grime pioneer, Lethal Bizzle, who then went on to take them on as his protégés. In late 2008, ‘Young Kingz’ released their first mix tape

‘Hornzville’ hosted by Lethal Bizzle’s group, Fire-Camp on their own label ADC production. The unparalleled response from the fans was again amazing to the duo and with over 500 CDs being sold within the first 24 hours. Four months later, they then again released a second mix tape called ‘Hart Of A King’. The tape featured a range of producers who helped cement the sound of ‘Young Kingz’. As a thank you to their loyal fans on Christmas Eve 2009, the group smashed their release record and had 1,000 downloads on its first day. ‘Young Kingz’ then released a 3rd mix tape ‘Hart of a King 2’ featuring Kraze at the start of 2010 and that sold over 500+ copies & 1000+ downloads in the first week.

It was at this point in their careers, the media noticed the duo. Their aggressive and sometimes suggestively violent lyrics did not win the press over. Their blatant and honest commentaries on urban societies quickly saw them tarnished with a negative image from journalists and the police. They were clearly unimpressed with the bold lyrics but the pair were unrelenting. That said, it did nothing but increase the momentum that surrounded their music and brand. This led to the group’s guest appearances on BBC 1xtra’s Tim Westwood show alongside, Lethal Bizzle. Now fans sit in wait for their 3rd mix tape ‘Hart of a King 2.5’ and the pre album ‘ROAD TO STARDOM’ out end of last year. have had the most impact on him are Joe Budden, Nas and Eminem. ukb i NOEVA

Singing Sensation Noeva Takes Clubs By Storm The Unit2’s singing sensation Noeva released her debut track featuring Dominic Saint called ‘Snow Bed’. This Old Skool feel good ballad, which makes you just want to hold somebody and dance, has got the clubs going wild, so much so, that International Creative Management company Stella, have announced that they have an avid interest in the Zambian beauty. Noeva is now ready to release a series of big hits accompanied by her big budget video titled ‘ONLY ONE’ featuring Double S produced by Delirious. ‘Only one’ is the next single awaiting release and the planned date is February 14th 2012 set to turn the heat up on Valentine’s day. What does Noeva mean to you and how did you come up with that name? The name Noeva was actually something I liked for a long time. I was born in November my birth name is Natasha so it only made sense to create a stage name to do with that.

You’re working with the Unit2Team, how’s that going? Working with the Unit2 team has been such a big deal for me because before I met the guys I was literally in and out of the studio. It does feel good to have a team, which is more of a family now to fall back on and get advice and support from, whether its musically or financially. You’ve worked with the video Director Sesan, how did that come about? How did the video shoot go? Well, the whole process was very fast. One minute we done the song, next minute the idea of Dubai came up because of the Arabic sounds in the song and before we knew it we were there so it was all very much a whirlwind affair to say the least. Literally within a week song, feature and tickets to Dubai were all sorted, I am very lucky to have my first video done abroad! Dubai is a beautiful country. Unit2’S CEO as we know him, asked me to ask you what your dream is. My dream is to be the best and to be respected and heard by other artists in the scene right now, to shine amongst all the talented artists that are already out there and maintain longevity in the music industry. I don’t want to be known for five minutes and then be gone. My dream is to make a long lasting impression on people. ANY LEAVING COMMENTS Thanks to all my fans, Unit2’s team, Brayze Entertainment. ukb i New Year New You And New resolutions

New Year, New You and New Resolutions By Louise Baker

You should have been reflecting on the past year and your achievements during the Christmas period. Now it’s a new year it’s time to look forward to your future. Maybe start your new year with a new wardrobe or new hair style, this will make you feel different and ready to face the world. Look at your situation and what you’d like to change over the next 12 months. Write them down in a list and only choose one goal that is achievable and a priority. Don’t choose something you can’t make a difference to within a year. If there is a large goal break it down into parts that are achievable and can count towards an end result over a couple of years. If you are really organised then break your goal down into monthly

check in points to keep you focused on the end goal. Make your goals SMART - Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timed. If you set more than one goal only focus on one at a time. With your focus on one goal you’re making it a less stressful process, more focused and it will increase your confidence. Once you’ve found at the end of 2012 you completed your goal with flying colours you will be keen to set others. Keep a journal of them over the years, it will make a good read in future years to come. Other than things you want to stop doing i.e. smoking, going out so much… think of things you need

to achieve to prosper i.e. a certain amount of savings by the end of 2012, spending more time with family or starting a course that counts towards a new job. “Goals in writing are dreams with deadlines.” Put a note of your goal and how to achieve it in your phone so you can have a look at it daily just to remind yourself what you’re aiming for. Last but not least if you fail to complete a goal, you would have still done some work towards it and you can continue throughout the following year. Achieving even a little part of your goal is better than not achieving anything at all throughout the year.

ukb i BLOW

BLOW It’s Not Just A Clothing Line, it’s a Club

Rita Okorafor founder and director with Wayne Field from Unit2 Records, is a bubbly, lively, trendy hair stylist whom has made a great name for herself with her remarkable hair styling skills and unique eye for fashion. Now styling Noeva artist and Miski artist she has always known she was destined for greatness. She first realised her talent when being pushed into entering a competition at the Princes Trust at age 19 to become an apprentice celebrity junior stylist, at the biggest salon in Europe based in London’s west end. She is now pushing her brand Blow straight to the top. HOW DID THE CLOTHING LINE START? I used to be a model and entered competitions such as Britain’s Next Top Model. I would attend fashion shows, parties and large events and would wear my name Blow printed on my garments and I would be recognised by random different European or Asian young models. Some would say “Hello Blow” or ask for a card for an appointment. Rita, very close friends with Lionel Agunyego, who has a joint clothing

line with Brian Garti called Currency Clothing and styles celebrities such as Tinie Tempah and Astroid boys in their dope chef concept, all played a big part to the start of this journey. Rita received lots of of support from Lionel, who helped with all the manufacturing of the clothing. Rita gave Lionel Aguyego the branded image and he produced the first garment ever for her. Clients then started asking for these tops when seeing her wearing her own branded Blow tee. It was just t-shirts at first but it progressed shockingly fast. Many people, both male and female, heard about them and ordered their own. Tees are priced at £25 WHAT DOES THIS BRAND REPRESENT NOW? It represents many different things for different people it has become an expression. It’s a feeling you get when you wear a Blow top because of the whole background of how it started. It’s classy, street, cool casual wear and it can be worn everyday in anyway. WHO WEARS BLOW NOW? Many different people such as MC

Fonts, who hosted for acts, like, Ed Sheeran, XO man, David Rodigan, BBC1Xtra DJ CJ Beats and Jessie J, wear the tees. Also wearing them are Dubstep producer Red Nek, music producer Delerious, Miski artist, rapper Margs and DJ Melo D and many more. The general public of all ages are into this trend. WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE? Wayne and I are being advised by Lionel Agunyego as he’s a definite genius when it comes down to manufacturing and sale techniques of t-shirts and fashion accessories. Our main plan is to become as big as water i.e. H2o, meaning everyone needs this brand! WOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD ANY LAST COMMENTS? All I would say is hair by Blow and clothes by Blow simple. Thanks to Lionel Agunyego and his new range 1000grams for showing support and believing in my idea. Remember it ain’t a clothing line, it’s a club. Hair dryers and hair products are in the works so look out for the name.

ukb i VA-G Fashion Guidance every event or session to our fan base via our social networks, we upload the logo onto flyers and add them to Facebook’s event page VAGarments banner on location site. All these things add up, creating a strong brand identity. The aim is for people, who don’t know the brand to recognise the logo and allow it to become imprinted in their subconscious. We were recently invited to Leeds alongside another 10-15 designers to showcase our latest collection at Leeds Fashion Show 2011. It was a great time as Leeds is one of the very few cities we had not been to. If fashion consumers did not know who VAGarments were before that day, by the end of it, they all did.

The G-Shock East Sessions also provide up and coming artists as well as recognised artists with a platform to perform. These are bi-monthly music sessions with top DJs and great performances, which are absolutely free. The whole point of teaming up with brands such as these is the fact that, while supporting up and coming talent, they also give people a chance by breaking down the barriers. We put their logo onto our website as an affiliated brand, plug each and

Our newest collection includes limited edition escape dresses, trousers/chinos, shirts, jackets, stylistic hoodies/ sweats and t-shirts. An item for all of our different buying consumers, our visually stimulating garments, unique for their cut and construction has the crowd jumping out of their seats. For 2012 expect the best from us, as we will be focusing on a particular style and enforcing it to the masses. Having an item for each lifestyle, whether you are a BMX rider or a 9 to 5er, VA-Garments’ aim is to make each garment accessible and affordable. It’s simple. To have a unique stamp on the clothing that has the appeal to keep the customers coming back for repeat business. Having that relationship and rapport with the consumer and looking forward to seeing the new use of material, use of colourways, cuts and products to create more effective but simple designs. The objective is to use techniques to ensure that colour differences convey designs through the garments made.

ukb i Sham hard work I put in. I felt the need to further push myself and start writing new material. How long have you been a music artist? About 8 years now. I recorded my first track when I was just 9 years old and since then I’ve never really taken a break from doing music. It’s definitely been one of the top priorities in my life for a long time now. I can’t see myself doing anything else. Music makes up a huge part of me! When was the point you thought to make music your career? I’ve been doing music from a very young age and I felt just making tracks here and there was not really fulfilling my musical appetite. It was late 2010 when I decided that I was going to start taking it more seriously and put 100% into my music, and since then I haven’t looked back. I would say it was one of the best decisions I have made.

Sham Prevailed As The Time 2 Network Winner From an early age, Sham displayed a confidence and charisma that commanded the playground’s attention. By MCing with friends and older students from surrounding schools and neighbourhoods in East London, his hip-hop career had an early head start. Bearing in mind the great names that have come out of east London, such as Wiley (widely considered the Godfather of Grime), Tinchy Stryder and Kano, the level of expectation for any up and coming artist is expectedly high. Sham has performed at a variety of events such as Brixton Splash, a Nutmeg showcase, London K.O, The Come Up, Time to Network and De-Masokhi, a cultural and diversity

showcase. He recently released a mix tape entitled ‘Sham on a Mission’ with hits such as Fly Together, She Wants Me and a remix of the J. Cole hit song, Work Out. Sham is also a finalist at Open Mic UK, one of the biggest open mic competitions in the country. As an Open Mic finalist, he will be performing in the O2 Arena in January and will also appear on Sky One. Make sure you look out for the name and his music. So you won the competition at Time 2 Network, how did it feel? It’s hard to explain the feeling, I had such mixed emotions, more than anything I was really happy and proud. I could not believe out of the other 20 talented artists I came up on top, I was truly blessed. More than anything, I felt further motivation as I was recognised for my talent and the

What was your first big break in music? Well over the last couple of months I have been taking part in an open mic competition called ‘Open Mic UK’ and managed to make it through all the rounds. I am now in the grand finals, which has given me the opportunity to perform in the 02 Indigo on 21st January. I feel like this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I consider this my first big break, and I am hoping the experience will open up many doors for me. What is your music sound? For me to say I have one specific sound would be a broad sweeping statement as I consider myself to be quite versatile and experimental when it comes to writing and making music in the studio. The music game is always switching up and I like to stay on point. What is your frame of mind when you make music? When I start writing or recording a track, I block out everything. All I think about is my music, I am 100% focused and motivated. It’s something I feel so passionately about that my mind systematically goes into creative mode.

ukb i Dominique Saint Makes Dream Reality and a self-admitted failed debut? I needed a little break to reflect on things and work it out (no pun intended). I decided to continue with my studies and obtain the degree I was studying whilst drifting in and out if music, what I mean by that is I was never recording things for myself. I would feature for rappers and write for others and I acted in some short films and stuff. What did you get your degree in? Events Management

Dominique Saint makes dream reality Dominique Saint grew up in a musical family. He followed in the footsteps in making his dream a reality. He’s a singer song- writer, with soul and gospel as his influences and this has opened him up to divulge in other genres making his sound more eclectic. How long have you been singing? I have always sung as a child being heavily influenced by my aunty and her journey to make it in the industry. When I reached 15 and became confident enough to express that being a singer was in fact a dream of mine, I then started to pursue it properly.

Who inspires you vocally? There are many singers, who have influenced my journey throughout my career, but I would have to say Donny Hathaway has been the most influential person vocally in my career. You had a single out in 2009 feat Junior Brat, why did you disappear after that? Yeah “Work it out” was my first single that wasn’t ever officially released. We shot a video for it and it didn’t really get the response we hoped for and I feel maybe my manager at that time lost a bit of faith in me and we parted ways. What did you do after finding yourself without any management

What made you decide you want to pursue a career in music again? Well… I think when anybody has a true love for anything, the desire and drive to achieve it never dies, it may hideaway or get lost but over time I think it will raise its head and remind you. And that’s what happened to me. Tell us about your new single “Break Up” I love it!! It is not a conventional love song is it? Thank you... No its not, I felt I had to write something for the fellas in terms of our side of the story in a relationship. There are a lot of songs out there, which I like to call men hating songs, but I wanted to deliver a concept that I think is apparent in a lot of relationships, so I hope that everyone can relate to it. I had fun writing and a lot of fun recording it. Delirious delivered on the production and Pro2J done a wicked job assisting me with the vocal arrangement. What does 2012 hold for Dominique Saint? Wow tough question…. To be honest 2012 is going to bring a lot more hard work and that’s the long and short of it really. I don’t want to be forgotten I just want to continue to put out stuff that you guys will like. And hopefully you will be seeing more of me.

Mic Righteous’s Mixtape Yob Culture Takes Industry By Surprise

Hailing from Margate, 21year old, Mic Righteous has rapidly become one of the hottest young stars in UK Hip-Hop scene. With over 2 million YouTube hits, his growing online presence was noticed by top UK producer Naughty Boy and in April 2011 Mic secured a publishing deal with Naughty Words/Sony ATV. Mic’s massively anticipated debut mix tape ‘YOB CULTURE’ dropped June 2011 and it received over 10,000 downloads. Performing tirelessly all over England including opening for Game, J.Cole, Immortal Technique, Lowkey, Devlin and many others, his every step is being watched and his new album ‘KamPain’ is set to be released early 2012. It’s going be an eventful 12 months for the young star.

quite be the Bahamas!!! My flat that I live in now looks over the sea. How did your talent get noticed? Well my professional journey really started when I met my now manager. I had been slyly recording on his equipment at a local squat when he caught me red handed. Since then it’s been steady progress. We saw your Cyphar on BET Hip Hop awards and we noticed you have a signature noise you make, its kind of like a bark. What is it and how did this come about? LOL! I suppose it’s a bark yeah. It had always come out when I was getting gassed in Cyphers. No one ever really mentioned it until I done it in my SBTV warm up session and people started going nuts for it.

So you’re from Margate, were you born and raised there? Yeah I was and I did. My parents fled Iran and ended up in Margate as it’s close to the port of Dover. It’s a mad place to have grown up in but I will always love my home town.

What can we expect from your album ‘Kam-Pain’ when it’s released? The new Mic Righteous. My debut mix tape ‘Yob Culture’ gave people an insight into who, I was when I recorded it back in 08/09. ‘Kam-Pain’ is an honest description of where I am at now in my life and career.

Miski Press Release

We had the chance to get up close and personal with up and coming UK artist, Miski. The ‘On My Throne’ rapper, singer and songwriter, talks about her past, present and future within her personal life and the music industry. As the 18year old artist from West London gears up to release her debut mix tape titled ‘On My Throne’, she has received a lot of support in multiple media circuits, including blog support from SBTV, Grime Daily, RWD Magazine and Soul Culture to name a few. She has also had radio airplay from Kiss 100, Choice FM, BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Rinse FM. Miski is definitely one to watch out for in the future as this article explains further.

“Some say I am pioneering that particular sound (reggae/dub-step) but I’m just having fun with it and seeing where it takes me.”

Miski, you’re the new kid on the block so tell us a bit about yourself? I’m an 18 year old female rapper/ singer/songwriter from West London but originally born and raised in Sweden for the first 10 years of my life. I went to school there, spoke the language, developed a love for the UK music culture hooked up with my team and the rest is history. Your single, ‘On My Throne’, which was released last year, had some great feedback and really got your name out there. Yeah, it had a reggae/dub-step vibe to it, which made it instantly stand out. Some say I am pioneering that particular sound but I’m just having fun with it and seeing where it takes me. It also featured P Money who added his own flavour to it and it worked really well. DJs on major stations showed a lot of interest and it had a real buzz, which made me realise as an independent artist don’t give up ever as talent outshines big budgets and YouTube hits any day. But it didn’t all start with ‘On My Throne’ did it? No, I’ve been working hard in the studio perfecting my craft. I’ve also released a couple of videos online such as ‘I’m Noisy’, a feature on Page’s single ‘My Life’ and my previous single ‘Looking Over Shoulders’, which received a lot of love on Grime Daily. You currently have a new single out called Game Face. Tell us a bit about that.

Yep, the new single is Game Face and features Double S. It’s a Hip- Hop banger and is a good follow up to my previous single, it’s produced by CSM & Unit2’s main producer Delirious. We created some magic in the studio and Game Face was the result! The video’s crazy, we took a different approach to this one with an interesting storyline and I got a chance to get my acting on. What does the future hold for Miski? Right now I’m with a very strong team. Brayze- that’s the name of my label and we have big things planned for the future...singles, viral videos Fashion etc. And a whole lot more, so watch this space! My mix tape called ‘On My Throne’, has features such as Lioness and Double S, also P Money and Junior brat, who’s making a stir right now and much more, which will be released in the summer so look out for that. Has there been any major label interested in you or your brand? I have had a couple of offers for my song writing and as an artist from two of the majors, EMI and Geffen, but the time isn’t right for me as yet. Where can people find you online? You can find me on Twitter @ YoItsMiski, Facebook just search Miski. I have a website in the works at the moment and the team are all on Twitter too.

ukb i rant of the month

Rant Of The Month AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHH!!!!! woo! Just had to get that off my chest for no apparent reason! …So I been up and down driving around today and one thing I noticed really puzzled me… Has anyone else noticed that everywhere you go there are new build houses popping up?!? I saw 4 in just a short distance of each other, a lot of them also conveniently have like a mini Tesco at the bottom so the residents wont have any excuse to knock next door for a bit of milk! Pissed if your neighbours a hotty! So anyways I’m not grumbling about the new build houses (apart from them having the thinnest walls ever) but this got me thinking…Aren’t we supposed to be in a recession?

Being the man I am I always look to the future and it seems kinda bleak. What’s happening is that because so much people are talking about this recession we’re actualising it, yes things are a bit tighter but boy, in my childhood things have always been tight so we’ve always had to make do, what I’m seeing happening now is that many companies are using the recession as an excuse to cash in, in many places if you’re earning over a certain amount the company will get rid of you just so they can hire someone else they find down the pub and pay them half of what you was on before… This means the company get to run at half their cost meaning more profits and everyone else who was on a decent wage will get to take up a new career in one of those new Tesco expresses! Imagine moving somewhere crummier than the crummiest town! I don’t even know where that is, with the rise in prices of travel cards you won’t be able to get back home anyway.

ukb i Producer Stealf

The Growth And Grind Of Producer Stealf I’m a sample-based producer from Hampshire. I make Hip-Hop with strong influences from the likes of Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Alchemist, Jake One, Marley Marl, Easy Mo Bee, Just Blaze and Kanye West. I’ve used all those influences to develop my own sound with a boom bap flavour. I’m a huge fan of the golden era of Hip- Hop and particularly the music coming out of New York from the late 80’s to mid to late 90s. I started producing back in 2005. I bought two turntables and a mixer and started messing around with acappellas and instrumentals, making my own remixes etc. I then started putting together mix tapes, featuring new tracks from artists I liked and managed to distribute them in a few local independent record stores and Hip-Hop clothing shops.

“...I got a message from Havoc of Mobb Deep. He said he loved my work and would I be interested in working with his new artist.” I became more interested in how the music was made, so I started to use Reason to make some simple beats and get a handle on what was involved. I then got my first sampler. The Boss SP505 was my first look into production. I used the Boss for about two years and knew it inside out before I moved over to MPC’s. Once I got my 2000XL I really started to apply myself. At this point I was working with a few local artists and some rappers from Portsmouth. I

started to build up a reputation as a pretty good producer. I had gained a few radio spins and interviews at local stations and networked with other producers and artists. I carried on learning everything I could about the art of production, the equipment needed, and established connections with all sorts of people in the industry. This was at a time when MySpace was THE social network, and I got a message from Havoc of Mobb Deep. He said he loved my work and would I be interested in working with his new artist. I obviously jumped at the chance and within a few weeks I had produced a track featuring 40 Glocc. It’s taken off from there really. I’ve since worked with the likes of Jadakiss, Nu JerZey Devil, Ruste Juxx, Wordsmith, Joell Ortiz, The Game, Bo Roc, Jackitdown Brown and UK artists like Konny Kon of Broke N English, Genesis Elijah, S. Kalibre, Skinnyman & Late. I’ve recently started my own label, De Facto Entertainment and signed two artists, Clas-Sick, who is featured on the single “Killer MC” from my album and Mista Flix. Currently, I’m about to release my album, “I Am Stealf” which features some big names and some serious Hip- Hop. I’m currently working on an album with Mista Flix called ‘The Gospel For The Rap School’. This is the first album from my label and promises to be something real special-12 tracks of real Hip- Hop, strong lyrics and gritty heavy hitting beats. It’s scheduled for an April release across all digital stores, as well as a limited run of 100 physical copies with an instrumental disc, a DVD of the entire production process with myself and Flix in the studio and some special packaging. De Facto Entertainment is going to be making a statement with this album. sees, aiming to produce something innovative and avant-garde to represent the world and its hidden secrets and treasures. NIK SQUARED AND WAYNE INTERVIEW When was Brayze created? The term was coined by Miski when she started out in the music industry, but we made it into an official company/label/brand in November last year. We wanted to do this properly and make sure there were no loose ends, so we decided to hire one of the top lawyers in the business, Sheridans, to set up the company. We are all dedicated to Brayze and want the best outcome for everyone in the team so it was only right that the business had to be on point! How did all of you come together to form the team? They then moved onto managing campaigns for other artists with a positive online presence. They saw a gap in the market where they could create videos and promote them to the industry. They are also keen bloggers and journalists who have a massive interest in music. Now, with the experience and knowledge they have, they can use that to elevate Miski and Brayze even further we made conscious decisions to go for what we believe in i’m a qualified optician and i gave it up to dedicate my life to Brayze and so far so good.
